Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) on my desktop at home, which is stable as bedrock. I don't think I've had a better OS... it's even more stable than XP was for me, though admittedly my XP system was bought before SP1 came out and after SP2 it was also rock-steady.

Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit) on my UMPC tablet, which has some issues as the hardware was originally designed around XP Home. (Specifically the video driver doesn't play nice sometimes. I wish the manufacturer would get off its duff and push out a new, more Win7-compatible driver.) Still, I like Win7's networking a lot and wouldn't trade down.

Here in the office we're still standardised on XP Pro 32-bit and that doesn't seem to be about to change anytime soon. *sigh* I'd be nice to get something beefier than a Pentium 4 on my desk...

Vista.

I haven't encountered any problems with it. What are the actual problems people have? Cause it runs smooth and easy for me to use. Other than a few appearance differences, it doesn't feel much different than XP.

Right now I'm on my MacBook Pro with the Snow Leopard (EDIT: Apple's newest) OS.

I also have Windows XP Home Edition installed on the same computer, but I use it only for gaming.

Vista. I'll have to change when I buy a new laptop..but for now it's serving me well. I still think XP is the most reliable though. Pity it's getting phased out.
Well, Microsoft has extended support for the XP till 2015 (2 years beyond our retarded apocalypse), last I heard. If softwares stop supporting XP at any point in the future, I can safely say people can fall back on 7 - its backward compatibility has yet to fail me.

Hell, 7's Windows Defender has nearly made antiviruses redundant. Considering applications can't modify critical Windows system files - at least not without your permission - the OS structure is somewhat similar to the Mac OS, without being too restricting... or having a nightmarish compatibility issue.

By the way, if you have problems with your Windows and post it on any forum, you're bound to meet at least one jackass saying "You wouldn't have that problem if you were running a Mac".

Clobber him. Internet style.
Can I just ask him to right-click?

Heheh. Well the problem with XP is that games of the past decade mostly don't work on them at all. Though if 7 has backward compatibility...
Wow, someone remembers! I actually took my time upgrading from Windows 98 to XP, because of the terrible backward compatibility (plus, Windows 98 was way more stable than the initial releases of XP).

I usually get my old games from this site: http://www.classic-gaming.net/
When I had trouble running old games, the guys there always had patches to get 'em running (they introduced me to DOS BOX, bless their souls). As for 7's backward compatibility, all my previous install files of softwares and games that ran on XP worked fine on 7, except for Homeworld 2 (*weep* *weep* *wail*).

Again, I'm speaking from personal experiences - you gotta dig around for the complete picture.

Good day.

Good Sir, open up the Task Manager, go to the Performance Tab, compare the memory Vista uses in the background to XP's memory usage, and get ready for evasive maneuvers because the difference will throat-punch you.

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Windows because I game
Vista, because my onboard sound's driver pack gets stuck in install loops on 7
Ultimate because I'd rather have and not use features than need and not have them
64-bit because 32-bit is for antiques
SP1 because GTA IV requires it. If it wasn't for GTA IV I wouldn't even have that. I don't need to update. It ain't broke, so I ain't gonna fix it.
Some say your watch goes up to 14, and that you think the credit crunch is a new type of breakfast cereal. All we know is, you're called The Stig.

Meh, I checked. It said 2.03 of my 4GB, but then I closed my Firefox and turned off Steam. Then it said 1.77GB. But then you also have to take into account the anti-virus which I wasn't going to turn off, so that would bring it down more.

I don't know I just haven't had any problems with its memory usage, even when playing computer games.

I guess it would be bad if you multitask your computer to the max, but I really don't do enough to do that. The most I've had going on my computer at once on top of the stuff above is, Playing on an Online poker client, listening to music, using firefox(playing another game in it, and reading something on the Escapist), downloading a video, and had a few other things open as well that I wasn't using at the moment but I was going to get to. I experienced no problems or sluggish behavior.

I guess my computer is just good for it. No problems here.

Oh god! So much Winows!

I thought we were better than that, Escapist...
Dude, this is a GAMING site. When have you seen a Mac or Linux machine with game support? Valve titles excluded.
well lotsa console gamers too, but I suppose even us console gamers are now sitting on our butts in front of our computers surfing The Escapist lol
but THANK YOU people for not ripping other people for using a diff OS (at least I don't see any...unlike with consoles)
True. Consoles. But this isn't about consoles. I still don't understand the appeal of a game pad over a mouse and keyboard, but to each his own.

And as for ripping on OSs, it's not so common knowledge that not all people on the internet are douche-bags. The vast majority, yes, especially on Xbox Live, but we here at the Escapist are generally civil.

In practical terms, Macs bug me. The price, it feels like you pay more for the name than anything, that damn jumping icon at the bottom every time i wants to tell me something, and the lack of a non-hidden bottom task bar. And the fact i can't play Crysis, Mass Effect, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on it. Of course, PCs bug me too, but i can play ALL my games on it...

This poll is badly formatted. These are OPERATING SYSTEMS, not wives: you should have more than one!

My desktop run 7 pro 64, while my laptop, server, and a few virtual machines all have Xubuntu 64 bit. Also XP in a VM.

From what one of the IT guys at my workplace told, we nearly had windows 7 64 on our new machines we got last spring, but some jerk just had to ask "are you sure everything will work?" so we're stuck with XP.

Let me clarify. I like M+K. I've used all the consoles out there and i find the controllers awkward, especially since i can't change the button mappings. They are functional, but i like my M+K better.

Some people on Xbox live also double tap their broken controls with .357 Magnum revolvers... I wish i were making that up.

Macs are Macs. They look REALLY GOOD. They preform with outstanding mediocrity with the few games they can run. Please note the definition of "mediocre." It does not mean "bad" it means "in the middle" or "average." PCs on the other hand, can run everything. Again, Macs are functional, but not my style. My style involves high-end graphics and physics engines and Macs prefer making movies, surfing the web on (that most horrific of web browsers) Safari, and iTunes. Having used all three functions on a Mac and PC regularly, i can say that i dislike Win Movie Maker and iMovie, Safari and Internet Explorer, and iTunes and Zune. So lets hear it for third party software!

lol I'd give my views and opinions but I began every statement with "I think..." just to let people know it was my thoughts and not trying to say THIS IS THE TRUTH...and it was nothing people haven't heard before so neverminnnd haha

Nothings stopping you. It's possible to have a civilized argument. That's how debates work. Two points of view and the two sides debate, discuss, and consider the other sides argument.

My personal computer is running Windows XP, since it's an 2009 XPS. I haven't felt the need to spring for 7 yet, but I'm sure I will soon. I also have a MacBook Pro (not the fancy unibody) that was issued to me at work. I work in IT at an arts university, and since the kiddies all have Macs, it's helpful to have one as well. My Mac is running Snow Leopard.

I'm using a family computer but I'm almost the only one who uses this so it's like my computer. It has Windows XP and it's good. In the future when I move out I'm of course gonna get a new one but until then, this computer serves me the best.
