Trick question. Many of the games coming out these days (i.e. the brown, generic bs fps games, which don't get me wrong, I like fps') are absolute crap, and in that sense gaming has gotten worse.

Yet at the same time, the technology is improving and therefore the games that ARE good are getting better than ever before, so I voted the same since it's half and half. Actually more like 80 and 20, but still.

I would argue that the answer is both.
Games in general are getting much worse, but the good ones are getting really good.

Logically, they should be getting better as we learn the formula of a good game. Metacritics just getting softer on games. I joke, I joke

In terms of mainstream games, nothing at all has changed. I could go back 5 or even 10 years and see the same stuff. So I voted Worse*.

*With exception for *most* indie games.

I want to say worse, because I expect more from games (better tech etc), but this is tempered by the knowledge that games have pretty much never been totally awesome.

Better graphics engines and resources mean that games are only getting better. We are now able to do far more in the games of today than we were roughly 30 years ago and even 10 years ago. New innovations are coming, there is a sizeable amount of competition, and the quality is better than ever before. Without a doubt, in my mind at least, games are getting better.

I chose better.. not because I honestly think they are advancing in the way to follow our society and culture, but because of...wishful thinking.

I really don't think metacritic is one to trust since the second best pc game of all time is apparently Out of the Park Baseball 2007.
But overall quality would be the same, some bad which we won't remember, some good which we will.

It depends, really.
If you mean in terms of quality, that's always debatable, if you mean graphical quality, then that's way up.

I'm gonna say the same. even though I feel that there has been a lack of originality in the games industry over the last 2 years games aren't going backward. They are staying the same but not ina good way.

I don't like this poll. There are so many different ways to look at this.

On one point, technically, yes. The graphics are looking better, etc., etc.

Storytelling in games is improving and people like that.

But mainstream gaming is starting to turn into waggle-fests with Kinect, Move, and the Wii. So... yes and no?

Some are getting better (better gameplay and/or story), some are getting worse (over-reliance of pretty graphics/no substance). This evens out to "The Same" for me. That being said, there are few older games that I could stand to play now, even among ones that I loved.

Sorry to say but the only thing that's gotten BETTER in the last 15 years is the graphics. I want to like Quake 45 or Unreal Tournament 72 but they're just DOOM with better graphics. Any "sandbox" game can trace it's roots back to GTA 3, Uncharted is just Tomb Raider with a male protagonist, and don't even get me started on EA's sports titles. Every time I put a game in I think "I've played this before, it's just like only with better graphics." That doesn't stop me from playing though! :)

Well, the games that I find myself playing are getting better than old games in the past. However, there are definitely a lot more poor value games being released and put out there that I'm sure some people are gobbling up.

I what sense?

Technically the games are better, you can deny the evolution of technology, however, as for originality, the games are worse, as the industry runs out of ideas and try to bet on already estabished IPs instead of creating a new one.
