Maining Soul Silver as my "for real" game, Heart Gold is for "fun" replays, since Lugia is better than Ho-oh, and having Lugia at lvl 45 makes it easier to EV train for competitive play.
...Your devotion both fascinates, and terrifies me.
I don't play competitively as I'd lose all the time as I prefer to assemble a random yet somewhat balanced team and generally only try to beat my friends with them (that I couldn't even do before due to lack or friends playing it and lack of Wi-Fi) though I still know about EVs and such, but only to levels where I now actually end up using all the vitamins I find (I never used to use them). I end up adopting a 'having fun' playstyle and doing lots of min/maxing, breeding and such doesn't interest me, so I generally ignore it.
I'd also be useless in any serious play due to always insisting on using a pikachu.
Back to subject, Soul Silver for me, as I played Silver (and Crystal) waaay back then, and I like to be consistent. However, the fact phanpy and teddiursa have switched versions is rather strange, at least for trying to relive the old game. (Though they are just restoring it to what it should be as they switched them from the original Japanese Gold/Silver for the translated releases for some weird reason).
