course it's a kids game. the landscape, the colours, the characters. however, doesn't mean that only kids should enjoy it. it's a kids game that everyone (but yahtzee) loves.

No, its a family game.

For example,

Barney the Dinosaur (the movie) - for kids.
Up (from Pixar) - for the whole family and still fun to watch as adults.

Game in a magical tripped-oup land with flowers, stars, angry muchrooms and princesses to rescue? It's either a children's game or a game for aging 60s and 70s rock stars.

Yeah I do think Mario is a children's game but before you take out your pitchforks I'm not saying that's a bad thing and I'm not saying that it doesn't mean Mario can be enjoyed by adults. I mean Hell, I still watch Spongebob from time to time and that's a children's cartoon show.

Mario may have evolved as an everyman game, (shown, among other things, by the main character being an everyman,) but I see the bright colours and cheery design as Mario being designed by in large for children. Again; not a bad thing and not a reason it can't be enjoyed by adults.

this survey desperately needs a option for all ages. mario, zelda, metroid, all the classic nintendo franchises are for all ages, much the same way pixar is. kids enjoy them, but so do adults.

Of course Mario is a children's game. It is a game made for the entertainment of children.

But that doesn't mean it cannot be enjoyed by people of all ages.

I am not a child and I love Mario games.

Heck no, it's a game for everyone from children to adults.
I agree, it does not matter what age you are, Mario will always be universal and "fun for the whole familly" I gues.

The really hard ones that came out as 2D sidescrollers weren't, but Super Mario Galaxy and the like were definitely kids games.

wow Shigeru, way to piggyback rockstar. I don't think we'll see a spate of anti-Nintendo lawsuits because little kids have been stomping turtles into oblivion though.....

Absolutely not a kids game. Just because it isn't difficult to grasp and doesn't include blood and bullets doesn't automatically make it a game for kids. It just means that it's not a game that is only for adults. It's different!

There is a distinct difference between "family friendly" and "Child's entertainment". Mario is fun for all who play it, from age 5 to age 55. So it is more than just a child's game.

I'd say Mario's sensibilities aim more toward the children's games side of things. Though they can have difficulty settings that are better suited for the older set. I still say they are mostly aimed at kids because the difficulty is often optional. Of course, just because they are made with kids in mind don't make them any less fun for me to play.

I've never heard of a game called Mario.

But no, it's not for kids, directly, though they can enjoy bouncing around for funsies.
I think the Lost Levels proved that it was meant to be a challenge for adults.

Mario is an everyones game. Its both child friendly and challenging enough for the older gamers.

Most Mario games are rated "E", which stands for "everyone" - there we go, case closed. Thank you ESRB.

I voted no, however I was referring to the classic Mario's such as, super Mario world, super Mario 3, and the first ever Mario. Nowadays the game has become much more "Child friendly" especially Galaxy which looks like how I imagine a 3 Year old with AHDD in a sweet shop would look. (lots of coloured sweets everywhere and the child running up the wall)
Yahtzee touched on this during his red steel 2 and Bowsers inside story reviews, the Tutorials feel like nintendo are holding our hands all the way though the game, this is either nintendo catering for kids OR they think we are all stupid in which case there probably right since WII owners normally are. (no offence to any WII owners here) :)

I think its a game that anyone can play, but its aimed at children, so I consider it to be a children's game.
