I reckon that an even mix would result in the lowest pricing compared to all retail or all digital, so that.

I would be sad to see retail completely disappear, but as it is retail is scarce enough, and you have to order it online more oft than not. Digital distribution might be inevitable.

"The day we go digital is the day I quit gaming."

I stand by that for two major reasons: Lack of a hard copy of something I purchased, and lack of competitive pricing/competition for digital games.

Only five of the 150+ games I own are digital, and that's either because a hard copy does not exist, like Sonic 4 and Recettear, or because it's the only way I can find a copy that functions properly, like Duke Nukem 3D, Freedom Force, and Ultima.

Digital distribution annoys me.

It costs me money for the internet, then I would have to pay for the game, and then pay again when I surpass my dowload limit also.

Additionally, as a society, we need to start working on finding ways to keep people employed. It is hard enough to find a first job, imagine what it will be like when there are even fewer bricks and mortar operations around.

The only digital stuff I buy is indie games, because I can understand how difficult it is for smaller publishers and developers to put a game on store shelves. In any other case, I refuse to even consider DD.
Seconded, unless DD is cheaper than a hard copy, see ArmA II in Britan.

But, majority of times, I'll buy a hard disk because: one, it's prove I physically own it and two, I'm usually seduced by a game because of its box art.

I much prefer retail, though I'd rather see a mix of the two. I like the social aspect of retail purchases, the local EB Games has a good staff, and I'm good buddies with the manager, so I'd hate to see them lose their job.

I prefer physical copies of everything. My books, my games, my movies, etc. I like to fill up my shelves with physical copies of my stuff. So I chose "I'd Be Sad..."

I chose "I would be sad" because I have spent numerous hours in game stores just looking through games with friends. It was lots of fun because we would always find something funny or something we hadn't seen before.
I think it's a lot like voting in the United States. It would be way easier and more convenient to do it online, but there are arguments that state going to a voting center is more of a community action than it would seem. It reminds us that there are others who are voting and others who care about the outcomes. The same could be said for game stores. When one walks into a game store, a part of them is reminded of the community that they are part of (for better or worse).

I want hard copies, all the time. I don't mind if after I get it I add it to steam or something then can play it without the disk but I want that disk. Also, they do often come with posters and manuals.

Well I like having a hard copy some times, but I love the convenience of not having to swap disks, and buying games without having to go all the way to the shops. Tough one, but if one had to go I'd want to stick with Digital Distribution.

I don't have anything against DigiDist as a concept but it will make everything more expensive.
I'm not just talking about the used market (which isn't really a discount anymore: I can usually find new copies for cheaper than gamestop's used prices) but we will see fewer discounts in the DD system because there's no need to clear stock.
Gaming is already absurdly expensive, this will just make it worse.
Then again, with the quality of this generation's consoles, something like Onlive does seem more appealing than buying the ps4/xbx480.

When games go purely digital, I will celebrate. Without having to purchase and play any new games, I will have time to peruse my collection of historically significant games and enjoy them. Occasionally, I may buy a digital game, but I will never pay full price for something I can't touch.

I will always prefer having a box and disc for my games, but if it's on sale for $10 on Steam, yeah, I'll grab it.

I want an even mix between the two. I think it would be cool if developers started releasing digitally downloaded expansion packs to hard copy games like those long ago times when PC games received them all the time(2004?).

I like my Steam account because I don't have to sort through scratched up CDs, and worn CD keys. I like my Retail copies because of the game manual/extras.

I would be sad to see either one go away.

Well, I voted "The day we go digital is the day I quit gaming", whether I actually do feel that strongly is another matter but I'd be more than just sad if things went fully digital, so the other option didn't really fit.

There's something about a physical copy a cold, digital copy of a game will ever be able to replace. Plus, when you go and take the game to the counter and the person behind the desk happens to share an interest in said game. So, you get to actually have a face to face conversation with someone who shares the interest (at least for the length of time it takes to process your transaction). I much prefer a bit of human interaction (provided the person isn't a twat) while buying a game over watching a download progress bar....
