Totally no for me, because I'm tiny and bruise easily. Might be better for other people if people like me were in the group being punched though!

All I can think is that this sounds like a perfect loophole for when the robots eventually try to take over. They'll know -exactly- how much they can punch us before they violate their internal laws. Seeing as most humans are easily cowed, they could take over just by repeatedly punching key people just enough to convince them to surrender (or to trick those same people into thinking the laws have been bypassed so that they make deals with the robots in order to save their own skin); allowing them to take over our lives covertly. By the time the people with guns and firepower and override codes know what's going on, they'll already have been "peacefully" removed from power and we'll be punchable "protected" pets in a robotic police state.

(I might read too much sci-fi.)

Edited for spelling, because I fail

This sounds like a *very* bad idea.

I just hope they don't decide to give them guns with live rounds. -_-'

Deeply depends upon the size of the robot. Coffee cup size, sure! larger than a house, not so much.

This doesn't just sound like a bad idea, it is a bad idea. The fact that robots can even punch humans seems to be a foreshadowing of something bad.

This just does not seem like a good idea. I mean, if we're building robots that advanced, we should have a better way to teach them what hurts people and what doesn't.

"I hate ..." the hole HUMANOID concept of an artificial life form ( pop caled Robot ). Having nothing against the mechanical programing, which in fact makes parte of my work&hoobby....seriously, teach a robot to punch you? Just sounds like a terrible idea.

Part of me thinks this is just a bad idea. Now, I can see the reasoning behind this particular endeavor. It's just that the idea itself does not sit right with me at all. Programming a robot to punch people? I personally wouldn't.

I'd be satisfied with them programming the robots to look for whatever the engineers think looks painful. Err on the side of caution and all that.

I'm pretty sure "This just SOUNDS like a bad idea" is EXACTLY what I posted on that news topic about the punching robot, so.....This just sounds like a bad idea.

Unless it's building a car or creating a PCB, I don't see what the big appeal of a robot is. I guess it's because I don't mind doing things for myself.

Okay that took me a while to answer... who knew these questions could be so deep!

But good on the roboteers of the University of Ljubljana! I would gladly let them punch me, if it didn't cause me harm!
