Question of the Day, October 4, 2010

Working straight off yesterday's question - "How many games do you play to 100 percent completion?" - we want to know what makes you stop playing a game. Which inexcusable flaw finally makes you put down the controller, eject the disc, and return it to the shelf?

I know that I usually stop playing a game when it gets boring. This usually occurs when the storyline is not interesting enough to keep me engaged or the mechanics become too repetitive or hard to use. Example: Final Fantasy 13

Faulty Machanies, glitches and the such.

And also games which jsut make no sense - I mean, yes I expect a semblence of having to figure something out, but, when its so convoluted and confusing, and no help is given...yeah

When it gets boring or if it's too hard. I stopped playing God of war 1 because of the quick time events and than fucking minotaur.

Also (Sorry for second post - System put it through twice)

Where there is an obvious problem which needs to be fixed, and the developers just shun it

Stupidly difficult... I can force myself through most games but when you hit an unfair boss combo I have to put the controller down. Can't play games while you're angry.

Not having enough time is usually the biggest factor. :/

Time and new games are usually the reasons for not finishing a game. Although I intend to finish most of my games in due time.

When I can't figure out what the fuck is going on. This is usually a bad sign for a game since I read everything.

i can generally finish any game i buy if i want to, i just dont get round to it. i hardly ever RTS (return to shop) because the only reason i would is if i didnt like the gameplaay style, and my favourite genres are so similar, thats unlikely

Well, all those choices come into play at some in any game so what I chose is other. For me at least, other means eye fatigue, my online connection drops out for no reason, lunch time, or I need to help around the house.

Sometimes when I find it too hard but most games have different difficulties, so that's not really an issue. Mostly because I get new games and play those instead. Especially if they're sequels to the games I stop playing.

My biggest reason is I get distracted by something (Get up for food, toilet, bed etc) and by the time I come back I don't feel like playing anymore and then never get the enthusiasm up to play it again.

Usually unbalanced difficulty settings, not long ago I was trying to get back in to the first Far Cry as I'd left it unfinished at the River level, and I shortly gave up from being killed by unpreventable things, like gunfire I can't avoid because I'm travelling in what I can only describe as an inflatable boat with a motor. Though I did finish it before. I don't mind difficult games, but I only when I set it to a hard difficulty, not on the Normal difficulty.

My usual reasoning for not completing a game is that I got distracted by something, usually by another game.
I've stuck to completing things all the way through more recently however.

Its a mix, really. I couldn't take more than fifteen minutes of any RE game. But that was mostly chalked up to atrocious voice acting AND awful writing AND terrible controls AND moronic game mechanics.

Something has to be pretty bad or really bland before I stop playing.
