I generally get sidetracked by new releases and then fail to pick the game back up. I never put new games down (usually, only one so far is Assassin Creed) without another game interrupting me.

Faulty game mechanics coupled with increased difficulty.

Well, there's a lot of things that make me stop playing a game. Bad plot and writing, horrid gameplay or controls, food, sleep, GED stuff or my godfather's constant nagging me in the background. Until it's out of my brain I can't play Team Fortress 2 because of it. Every time I pick it up the second I die it's, "Maybe it's a sign you shouldn't play Engineer!" or otherwise in the back of my head.

People would actually stop playing a game because of bad voice acting!?
If I'm completely honest, the only reason I might start a game and not finish it is because I'd forgotten about it or I've actually lost the game... disc. Sorry >.<
Or if you mean actually stop playing, as in turn off the console, I'm tired? Late for something?
On the voice over bit, yeah. My boyfriend absolutely refuses to watch anything dubbed in english because he believes all western voice over is bad.

The biggest thing I can think of is time specific goals, or when the WHOLE game is times specific (damn you to hell Dead Rising). I mean, I just want to run around and explore and if I fail a game because of that it's frustrating.

Another thing is where the game has a bad map system or none at all, you never know where the hell you're going!

Boredom. I play a game until I find it bores me, then I stop.

When I buy a game,I do my research. IE,no midnight launches. I'd know ahead of time if the story sucks, and that's one of my primary "Sell points". I don't care about instructions;I generaly figure things out along the way,or get creative. Generaly both. I don't care about VA work, unless it's TRULY something to complain about. Never happened once. The difficulty I can either change,or adapt to,as all people would. The game mechanics are what kills it for me. Before, all I searched up was how the plot unfolded. After a few bad purchases (Phantasy Star on 360) I decided to look up game mechanics as well. Never had a bad purchase since.
So, you missed out on the best game of 2010 - Alpha Protocol?
Althoud I do my research,I never really pay attention to upcoming games unless I'm really interested. Other words, this is the first I've heard of Alpha Protocol.

I know that I usually stop playing a game when it gets boring. This usually occurs when the storyline is not interesting enough to keep me engaged or the mechanics become too repetitive or hard to use. Example: Final Fantasy 13
This was what I was pretty much going to say. Repetitive gameplay can be overlooked if the story is good enough to keep you hooked, but if a game has repetitive gameplay and a terrible story I won't even bother to complete it.

I voted Unclear Instructions due to my fear and loathing of FFXIII. However, many reasons come into play; Uncharted 2 and the "monsters", Assassins Creed and the repetitive repetitiveness, Boarderlands and its blandness, BioShock and the (hrm I should play that one again).

Add to all that a wife and Child.

I will put up with all of these problems so long as the storyline interests me. If the story line is terrible, I will stop playing, or if the final boss is insanely disproportionately difficult and I can already tell how the story will end (or can Wikipedia it) plus there's no open world play after the game ends then I might skip it... I probably do that too much

I voted other because it is generally a mix of all of the above, but the strongest case against a game would be fucked up mechanics. And that doesn't always kill it because they can lead to some funny moments, but some mechanics can kill a game and make it simply unplayable.

Story won't kill it, but it will certainly make a game less enjoyable and make me not want to stick around until the end as much

Unclear instructions have been the case for some games where I pick it up and assume it's going to be a certain way because of genre or because it belongs to a series... then I find out it is way different and I can't figure out why they changed it or how they changed it soon enough for me to enjoy the game

Voice acting... um... I guess not really a problem. I think lack of voice acting would get boring fast though. Maybe part of the reason Zelda games put me to sleep.

Difficulty usually isn't an issue because they can be adjusted. I do hate how you can't adjust difficulty mid-game (like in L4D) because maybe I'm finding the current level too easy and want to switch it up, but the game won't let me. Kinda lame on that end.

Graphics, like voice acting, usually not an issue. However, I can't stand the N64 graphics anymore. For some reason I just get headaches from the damn thing. I don't play Golden Eye or like it simply because of that.

Repetitive, boring gameplay is what really does it for me. I mean, sure, all FPSs and RPGs have repetitive mechanics, but if they're good, then I can stand it.

All of these, really, just some to a greater extent than others. In order:
Unclear Instructions
Difficulty Level
Faulty Mechanics
Inconsistent Story
Poor Voices
Bad Graphics

Oh like stop playing the game altogether, glitchy games. i fucking hate glitchy game. Except the STALKER games oddly.

Also having the same song play over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Thats you Devil May Cry 4.

Usually I won't let myself actually STOP playing the game, I have this thing that I need to find out what happens, no matter how bad it is (I ended up reading all FOUR twilights. It's that bad.). But I can usually manage to conveniently forget about it by being swamped with College work until I get something new to play with, when I'll trade the bad game in.

If the game just isn't interesting and just feels dull, the only game that really springs to mind is Two Worlds, I didn't even get an hours gameplay I disliked it that much.
