The use of the word evil there nearly made me throttle my monitor, evil is both subjective and far more then gay people. >.< I do have one proper question though. If you dislike gay marriage, what about a gay civil union, it's not religious, it's just a legal contract that lets them have the legal benefits of marriage without being involved in anything god related, would you have any objections to that?Mad World said:

I agree that him calling homosexual acts evil was pretty god damn ridiculous. That's fine if its your opinion, can't punish you for thinking a certain way, but trying to apply that sort of thought into public law would be an outright crime.Seitou said:
Civil unions are a cop out. Marriage is not strictly a religious thing, and no religion should have any say over who gets married. Of course they have absolutely no obligation to marry same sex couples themselves, a church should have the right to refuse to marry anyone they want for any reason without exception. That is their business and they should be free to do it how they want. But one done without any church involvement with a judge or whatever should be free to everyone or no one at all.

Now to explain my disagree choice for option 1.
I am strongly PRO-gay. I am all for homosexual equality in society.
They're human, I'm human, we cool. You know?
BUT!
When most people in the Western world, those this survey is aimed at, speak about marriage they are talking about the idea of marriage as founded and created in a Christian society. Our cultures, predominantly, were shaped in to what they are today by the beliefs of the fiercely religious, this is why marriage features in our laws.
So, whilst I believe in homosexual rights, I do not believe that people who do not follow the perceived tenants of a faith should be allowed to practice certain aspects whilst disregarding others.
Should homosexual couples be granted equal, legal, rights as married heterosexual couples?
Definitely.
Should they be allowed to feel righteous when told they can't get married in a church with a conservative following because "that's discrimination"?
No.

The real argument seems to me to be that the conservatives want to deny homosexual couples their civil rights because they're 'evil'.

I can see where you're coming from, but in a progressive and multi-faith society that seperates church and state the argument that "it's against our religion, it cannot be" argument fails to hold water, especially when marriage as a legally binding entity ceased to be religious decades ago.newuseforvintage said:
