No its not. Its definitely one of the best books I've ever read. You should read Anansi Boys. It has a nice backstory of Mr Wednesday and his family. (which may sound dull, but it really isn't) It is very much written in the same style as American Gods.

Love that book man.

As for quotes:

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. -Roy Batty

A Wizard is never late. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to. -Gandalf

Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop.- The King of Hearts

"There is no good or evil. All there is is a difference of opinion."
Squall, Final Fantasy XIII

Squall has always been my fave FF character in terms of personality, and its because his inner monologue is both the funniest and most insightful character in that game. This is a quote I've used on lots of people who've let their passions cloud their vision and it has a habit of working :)

Potentially cliché, but Shakespeare said much of what there is to say about the dangers of prejudice and discrimination over 400 years ago.

"...if it will feed nothing else,
it will feed my revenge. He hath disgraced me, and
hindered me half a million; laughed at my losses,
mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my
bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine
enemies; and what's his reason? I am a Jew. Hath
not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs,
dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with
the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject
to the same diseases, healed by the same means,
warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as
a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed?
if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison
us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not
revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will
resemble you in that. If a Jew wrong a Christian,
what is his humility? Revenge. If a Christian
wrong a Jew, what should his sufferance be by
Christian example? Why, revenge. The villany you
teach me, I will execute, and it shall go hard but I
will better the instruction."

Shylock, The Merchant of Venice, Act 3, Scene 1.

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that? - Ash, Army of Darkness (or Evil Dead 3 whichever you prefer).

Well hello Mister Fancypants. Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things, right now: Jack and shit... and Jack left town. - Ash again.

Walk softly .... and carry a big gun.

Terry Prachett's Lord's and Ladies

Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder.
Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels.
Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies.
Elves are glamorous. They project glamour.
Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment.
Elves are terrific. They beget terror.
The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.
No one ever said elves are nice.
Elves are bad.

Terry Prachett's Thud! In the mind-scape of character.

"who are you?"
"I am the Summoning Dark" It was not a sound, if it had been it would have been a hiss. "Who are you?"
"I am The Watchman"
"They would have killed his family!" The darkness lunged and met resistance. "Think of the deaths they have caused! Who are you to stop me?"
"He created me 'Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?' Who watches the watchmen? Me. I watch him. Always. You will not force him to murder for you."
"What kind of human creates his own policeman?"
"One who fears the dark"
"And so he should" said the entity with some satisfaction.
"Indeed, but I think you misunderstand. I'm not here to keep the darkness out. I'm here to keep it in. Call me the Guarding Dark. imagine how strong I must be."

Andrew Ryan, Bioshock.

"I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'it belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'it belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'it belongs to everyone.' I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture. A city where the artist would not fear the censor; where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality; where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city as well."

General Sturnn, Dawn of War: Winter Assult.

"To each of us falls a task. And all the Emperor requires of us Guardsmen is that we stand in line, and we die fighting. It is what we do best: we die standing."

It's not actually a quote, it's just an item description from Fallen London (formerly Echo Bazaar):

A Searing Enigma
Mysteries are fire. Truth burns.

It was not the item or the adventure I was expecting to get, and the words of the mouse-over text just hit me like a brick. Not sure why.

And let's not forget Dune's Litany of Fear:

I must not fear
Fear is the Mind-killer
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

That has gotten me through so many public speeches, tests, fire dancing performances, large heights, and dealings with spiders. I cannot tell you.

Love the idea in theory.
And a very passionate speech.

I am at least wise enough to know how ignorant I am. I have realized that the Universe does not have to abide by my preconceptions.
--Dominar Rygel XVI, Farscape
And that's even more impressing when you consider his attitude when we first meet him.
Farscape deserves special attention anyway. It's the only Science Fiction show I know that references other Science Fiction shows:

John Crichton: Pilot, get a tractor beam on that shuttle.
Pilot: Tractor beam? What's that?
John Crichton: Graviton field, attracto ray, superglue. Whatever it is you yanked me aboard with.
Pilot: You mean the docking web.

Crichton: [stepping out onto the planet for the first time] Kinda like Louisiana. Or Dagobah.
[Aeryn looks at him]
Crichton: Dagobah. Where Yoda lives.

Bob Page:
A bunch of pretentious old men playing at running the world.
But the world left them behind long ago. We are the future.

We've had to endure much, you and I, but soon there will be order again, a new age.
Aquinas spoke of the mythical City on the Hill.
Soon that city will be a reality, and we will be crowned its kings.
Or better than kings.
Gods.

JC Denton:
When due process fails us, we really do live in a world of terror.

Bravery is not a function of firepower.

What good's an honest soldier if he can be ordered to behave like a terrorist?

Paul Denton:
Somehow the notion of unalienable liberty got lost.
It's really become a question of what liberties will the state assign to individuals or rather,
what liberties we will have the strength to cling to.

Sam Carter:
Being a soldier isn't just following orders,
it's following those orders in the service of a higher cause.
When that cause is betrayed, we're not soldiers anymore,
just pieces on a chess board dying for the wrong reason.

Morpheus:
God was a dream of good government.

The basic human need to be watched was once satisfied by God.
Now, the same functionality can be replicated with data-mining algorithms.

The unplanned organism is a question asked by nature and answered by death.
You are a different kind of question, with a different kind of answer.

Yes, i love the original Deus Ex 8)

"Have you ever faced an Asari commando unit before? Few humans have."

Matriarch Benezia says this in Mass Effect 1 when you're at Peak 15 on Noveria. Not really a deep, existential quote, but it has always stuck with me ever since I fell in love with Mass Effect in '07.
I liked that they reference it in the sequel, by having you walk in on Liara saying it to someone in ME 2, and she gets a bit embarrassed that she's been caught being so threatening.
