So my Xbox 360 just got the inevitable RROD. Yeah this happens to people a lot... so why am I making a thread about this? Because I am pretty fucking steamed about how Microsoft treated me when I called about the 3 year warranty.

I bought my first 360 about 4 years ago, which survived roughly two years before the video card died. I sent it in (while it was still under warranty) and they REPLACED the Xbox for free. The support guy explained that they would extend my warranty for the new Xbox INCLUDING the 3 year RROD warranty.

The Xbox they sent was pretty crappy from the start (it made really loud noises and locked up more often than an Xbox should). Well it lasted up until now and when I tried to order a repair online it wouldn't let me select the RROD free repair. As it turns out they never actually renewed the warranty for the REPLACED Xbox, so that essentially this new machine only had about two years of coverage as opposed to three. When I explained this to costumer service they told me I, "had been misinformed."

So yeah, fuck that. Now I can either shell out 100 bucks for a shitty machine that will die again in a few years or throw down 300 for a Slim. FML.

Or you could buy a gaming PC and be set for life. :p I jest, I jest. Keep your pants on.

Sorry to hear about that shit, man. I've found that, when talking to representatives like that, always get their name and attempt to get a clear, solid confirmation that what you're being promised is going to happen. I had similar problems when trying to get a guy out to fix my internet, they apparently "forgot" to note down that I wanted him to stop by. By then a week had passed.

Sadly I doubt there's much you can do. No wonder you're steamed, though. I think anyone would be. Getting shafted ain't fun.

can,t you get it fixed yourself or somewhere else?
That's a possibility. I know a place back at home, however it might be pretty expensive there as well and the are always backed way-the-fuck up, so it'd take a long time to get it back.

still if it,s under 100$ it will be worth it.
You can also sell the system+games/accessories and buy a new system

Only a 100$? Why on earth are you complaining? We have to pay more in pounds over here AND the sterling is worth more than the dollar xD
I had this 3 times and the first time they just completely ignored my warranty - and that was a 2year coverage which i wasn't even 1 year into! After the 3rd time I just completely gave up and realized that the -BEEP- would never give me any problems and just switched to that.

Why people trust Microsoft to design their gaming hardware is still beyond me...

$100 is a lot of money for a college student XP My staff writer job at the campus paper only pays me 75$ a month... that's not even half of minimum wage over here XD

The great thing about PC is that when they break, you can just google the fix, which always work. Just stay off the dodgy website and it won't break at all. and dude, it's just a xbox, your life isn't fucked.

Contact whoevers in charge of fair trade, an ombudsman or something.
Explain to them that you were promised a 3 year warranty on your replacement 360 and that they are now refusing to honour that.

Wait a week or 2.

Get a phone call from Microsoft saying they will honour the warranty so as to avoid whatever legal action the ombudsman threatened them with.

Or such is my understanding of such matters, it worked for me regarding a telecommunications issue.

Never trust Microsoft to make anything that lasts long. You would be better to make a conle yourself that last longer.

This warranty issue is going around right now. MS recently switched from outsourcing their tech support to state side tech support (somewhere between 6 and 10 months ago) because the company they originally had doing it was complete shite. They would basically do whatever they had to do to get you off the phone. As far as the warranty goes, when you send one in for RROD it sets the warranty to 1 year (unless the current warranty is longer) from the time of repair. As for those of you who got another console entirely it was a refurbished model. I can't take all the blame off of Microsoft though, as the manufacturing is the problem to start with.

Well then. It is now time for you to BUY A COMPUTER

this has no restrictions. can instal linux. Can play games (and the games are cheeper). Do you homework. And will not be "not supported" when the next console comes out. :)

Good hunting

I agree with building a gaming PC, but not for the money issues involved. With a PC expect to need to upgrade every 2-3 years to keep up with current gen games/dx. Expect the average graphic card upgrade to cost between $100 and $400 US. As for operating systems, if you want the most support for gaming you are stuck with MS again. I would avoid Linux like the plague, but I do like the idea behind it. The upside of the PC is, if you can build it, you can fix it. No sending crap in to unknown places for months at a time to get something simple fixed, no hoping that the PSN or Live networks don't go down on your day off, and you get to join the L33T PC crowd (j/k on that last part).

Out of curiosity how many red lights were showing on your console?
