"An adult classification for video games will provide better guidance for parents and remove unsuitable material from children and teenagers,"

LOL OMG that is the funniest thing I ever read. This poor sod really needs a fact check.
I don't know how things work over in Australia, but in the US despite being decades older there's a lower rate of compliance to the age guidelines for movies than there are for video games.

Both systems are voluntarily implemented by the industry itself, and they follow almost identical criteria for ratings. In some respects the ESRB has stricter guidelines for what quantifies an "M" and "T" rating.

If people want to disregard what the ratings are telling them it's not the government's place to complain or really do anything.
Well at least one person got what I was refering to, although to be fair my statement was vague at best. Yes, an Adult classification for video games will provide better guidance for parents, if they bother to pay attention to it. How many parents come into a game store in the U.S. and just blindly buy something for their kids even though the clerk tries to inform them about the ESRB rating? Surprisingly there is a lot given the personal experiences from actual store employees. The fact that the ESRB is followed more rigorously than the motion picture ratings is telling that the industry can self regulate but apprantly parents cannot hence this new law in Australia and the source of my mirth.

It can be difficult to have a rational debate with people who are opposed to your position on a completely irrational basis.
What a beautifully crafted sentence.

Nothing about this fight for a 18+ rating makes any sense to me. Get your shit together Australia!

Sadly enough, for some people the whole idea of sex is very upsetting. For those people it may be the case that no matter what benefit the sexual content will bring, no matter how much money, happiness, artistic merit, love, tolerance, how many jobs, religious conversions, etc. sexual content in any and every form provides for others, it makes the aforementioned people brown their trousers.

You either just have to ignore them, lock them up, or help them with their crippling psychological problems. Rational arguments or incentives just may not convince the crazy.
