Have you ever played Blood Omen 2? There's an enemy which used to be a vampire, but has been altered and now is some super power monster with something which I think i a steamtank on his back, which seems to power him.

Steampunk doesn't mean steampowered it means looks like it is. I.e. very early 1900s. And yes 100% but they look humman thats why I said androids not robots.

Well then you should make mechanically 'enhanced' humans.

Agreed, before you even consider anything, you gotta make sure you get the differences between Clockpunk and Steampunk sorted.

In honesty I wouldent go for 6 different races, cause then you get away from the sheer awesomeness of Steampunk. 6 different nations, lets say two for each cliche region (Generic people from Far East, Generic people from Europe, Generic People from Cold Place that you begin with an N).

Depends if you are going for Steampunk or Steampunk with some magic thrown in. And despite being all for clockwork people nation, well... I like steampunk, because in some ways it makes sense. Sentient clockwork? As in true sentience? Well, unless you throw some magic in there... *cough* And again, Clockwork is not steam powered.
Yes their will be magic. For their backstory they were crafted by a Hephaestus-like god. and for the setting I was thinking a continent spaning empire in civil war. but as I said I don't have the plot sortted out yet, and that includes the map.

Actually, Steampunk means modern-day trappings in a Victorian setting - steam powered computers, airships, space ships, that kinda crap. hell, in the Steampunk comic, Blaquesmith even had a steam-powered pacemaker.

Of course, that also powered a steam-powered cubernetic arm with a minigun in it. Fun stuff.

Aaanyway...

Elves - don't overlook Elves. The Iron Kingdoms have brilliant Elves that fit perfectly with a Steampunk setting and a reason for being immortal yet endangered.

Dwarves - traditionally steampunk, even in the most medieval of settings.

Undead - If you take the steampunk prosthetics to it's logical (for steampunk) conclusions, you can have all manner of cool stuff. Off the top of my head, how about providing a service for the ultra-rich where, when they die, they can imprint their minds into a machine that will take over corpses purchased from the working classes so they can enjoy "life" a bit longer?

Sub-humans - Steampunk means more pollution. There's nothing to stop you having a race that used to be humans that have been mutated over several generations by the "fun" stuff belched from the factories straight into the rivers that they drink from.

That's a few to mull over. I love Steampunk stuff (and I also happen to be training to write video games :p), if you want more ideas for races/plot, shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can come up with :)

Are we talking player character races?
Dwarves and gnomes are often presumed to be technically minded, so they would probably fit the bill nicely.
As for other races, I'd say it depends very much on what the lay of the land is, so to speak.
A lot of svamps? Maybe savage lizardmen occupy the svampy regions, worshipping heathen gods and waiting for enlightenment by the civilised races. Or maybe they have an empire.
Maybe the northern regions are inhabited by a race of seal-people?
Maybe a race of short, hairy-footed people live in the lowlands of the civilised lands and grow most of the crops the lands are dependant on

Seems to be the only idea thats interesting and not "Lets take something from Warhammer (Lizard people)" or "Generic Fantasy Copout (Orcs, Elves, Dwarfs, anything else other then humanity mentioned in a Tolkien novel/Popular video games)"
Yay I don't want any generic fantasy races. They only beast race I thought of were deer people that live in trees.

How about a few varieties of deformed underground mutants? Maybe include "savages" too. It'd fit the neo-Victorian Steampunk aesthetic.

Aren't androids just robots that look like people? Maybe you can include some kind of bulky war-automaton as well.

I wouldn't make them clockwork though - that kinda goes against the whole "steam powered" design choice. Steampunk's all about using steam in highly optimistic, improbable, and ultimately pointless ways.

Things like "Bulky War-Automatons" would not be a seperate race, more something used by the races in the epic battles that would unsue if this remains a true steampunk game, and not a game with steampunk elements.

Hell, WoW, (which people keep trying to bastardize for race ideas) has steampunk elements, is it a steampunk game? Hell the no.
Eh, not really. I'd say there would be enough variation between an android and a warbot to distinguish them. Both physically and psychologically. We're also talking about player races, not factions.

Ya know, why not? There are three dozen varieties of elf. Each with variations more minor than the last.

I say the warbots declared themselves separate from the androids. Who's going to stop them? They're warbots.

oo i thought of other races, Fairies, a steam Fairy seems like it can be fun and a semi good idea to a degree, you can use a race the uses the steam tech to power there psychic powers, that seems like a race I would like (but then that just reminds me of the one race i made up for my comic $$), but then that's more of a class, kinda like a steam caster -_- I never played a Steampunk MMO i tried to but never found any good ones that caught my fancy $$ but ima still looking $$ most seem to just have a human race

Just to let everyone know I dicided to make a steampunk game because no one uses it. So with the races I want something different. That means no Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Lizardmen, or Selkies. So think of something different, the best ideas I've seen are the zombies and mutants.
