Steam Ghost!!! Someone died in steam and has deeds undone in there life and somehow or way from the power of great tech they became a steam ghost, ever heard of a Dokufu? i always wanted to play one in anything bt they are strange @@ but if you want something new you can use a Steam Vampire type thing that uses steam as energy not blood but that sounds weird, and you can go an extra step and have something like a Frankenstien but that is sorta zombieish @@ you can use a Fox Demon those guys are awesome but that may seems like some unnamed anime that i dare not mention for fear of wrath of common sense @@

this may seem kinda wowish but i Can see a Minator with steam powered cyber parts >< Then also i thought about a fish man and Mummy to but that seems strange

Oo you could use Cat People, not Neko that they cats that turn into humans more like real Cat People like 6 feet tall cats that walk and talk and kill random things

maybe something like Hell Boy, where there big and stuff but has the tech to make em strong or move around kinda like Steampunk Demons >< if something like Hell Boy the hand can be a tech and weapons are fun $$ I have no idea

lol I just having fun now I would make up a race I have tons I made up for my own world and I thought of one off of this topic that caught my fancy ^^ so ummm.. yea... COOKIE!!

GOD, Edited to be less confusing

Scavenger race that steals from others, think like Jawas, but come up with an original look and more detail.

I like the idea of a lower class of humans having been deformed over time to evolve into slightly mutated humaoids. It definitely fits the entire Victorian era theme, seeing as you'd have what used to be the lower class (pre-mass pollution) and what is and always has been the upper class. Toss in a few tophats, slick people in finely tailored suits that can pull swords out of their canes, mutants with various abilities (maybe mutant sub-classes depending on the mutation -> melee, ranged etc.), and preferably some magic races seeing as that's usually a hit. Oh, and robots are nice. But please for the love of whatever deity you call God avoid inserting tree-dwelling deer people. Being original is nice, but everything has it's limits :p So there's at least two factions or what not. I'm thinking a radical somewhat FPS-ish approach to PvP would be nice, but that's not really the point. I like the idea though. Could be the next big thing :)

Edit: If timetravel/interdimensional travel exists, there could be dinosaur/human hybrids, or civilised (to a certain extent, i.e. not tribal, but not exactly the planet's evolutinary pinnacle in terms of success) dinosaurs at least. That would be awesome.

ummm... Are the clockwork androids 100% machine or half? and BTW clockwork means its not Steam powered.
Agreed, before you even consider anything, you gotta make sure you get the differences between Clockpunk and Steampunk sorted.

In honesty I wouldent go for 6 different races, cause then you get away from the sheer awesomeness of Steampunk. 6 different nations, lets say two for each cliche region (Generic people from Far East, Generic people from Europe, Generic People from Cold Place that you begin with an N).

Depends if you are going for Steampunk or Steampunk with some magic thrown in. And despite being all for clockwork people nation, well... I like steampunk, because in some ways it makes sense. Sentient clockwork? As in true sentience? Well, unless you throw some magic in there... *cough* And again, Clockwork is not steam powered.
Yes their will be magic. For their backstory they were crafted by a Hephaestus-like god. and for the setting I was thinking a continent spaning empire in civil war. but as I said I don't have the plot sortted out yet, and that includes the map.
I would make the main story arc go from meaningless work serving different sub-factions in the two warring groups to eventually serving the game's god in a battle against another demigod, one that rose to his divinity by some way other than actual godliness (mad science?) and is responsible for the civil war, which has implications far deeper than loss of human/whatever life (like the subjugation of all races). His minions would be a race of multi-limbed zombie-like creations with prominent steam engine parts. (That takes care of one race). Another race would be a new creation made to aid the good guys by the Hephaestus dude:large, skeletal robots that appear to be made of brass, and have (visible) innards that consist of steam engines, pistons, gears and cogs. Another race would be arrogant elf-like people with a strict culture styled after Victorian nobility. Another could be humans given replacement steam-powered body parts that made them hideously deformed (like that pirate dude from Treasure Planet) and left them shunned by the majority (the normal humans) and the nobility (the elvish guys).
Just an idea.
EDIT: Could be more steampunky, though.

Steam powered sentient computers? Computers who got so intelligent that they started making their own bodies?
A bit like Skynet and the Terminators, if you get what I'm thinking...

Even if you don't like that idea, good luck!

A race of Half Human Half Android guys that were created by Humans but developed free will and escaped to be a single race.

Facts: No allies (if some races are allied), higher strength and dexterity (or whatever you call it), unique weapons and are weak to a certain type of weapon.

Also could I hop aboard the Team for this I am a big MMO fan and started wishing I could make one since I was 15 (18 now)

Please excuse my grammar and punctuation if it sucks, English is not my first language.

how about a Zombie powered by the steam tech? that seems like funish ><
Seems to be the only idea thats interesting and not "Lets take something from Warhammer (Lizard people)" or "Generic Fantasy Copout (Orcs, Elves, Dwarfs, anything else other then humanity mentioned in a Tolkien novel/Popular video games)"

Perhaps some race of steampunk cyborgs?

You should just create a colaboration (or however the hell you spell that) of everthing thats been mentioned already and by that I mean a mutated clockwork fairy zombie cyborg warbot. Just a second, I have to go draw that.

Steampunk doesn't mean steampowered it means looks like it is. I.e. very early 1900s.
Aww, I was gonna say a steam powered train that 'transforms' into a giant robot.
Unless it was an electric train that just looked steampowered...

Hmm... A race of boobie people?

How about some really physically weak aliens who are huge on technology? Thats the classic one.

Plus, on the other side of the spectrum, a brute-like species that look like some kind of large cat and fight with sheer brawn and strong defensive technology. (heavy armour) They could believe that the only truly honorable kill is up close, and thus don't make use of long-range weapons.

A community or species of psychics. (Think the Asari in Mass effect.)

Some kind of blob-shaped creatures that are immune to physical damage (though vulnerable to plasma) and can digest other species.

An insect people who use swarm tactics and have rifles they can reload in mid-air.

A race of Spartan-like creatures. They live for war and are ultra-disciplined and very war-like. They may have evolved under very harsh conditions.

Finally, try a species that replicates itself through hi-jacking other life forms. Some kind of zombie disease?

EDIT: I just remembered the word "steam-punk." Using wiki to work out what the hell steam-punk means.

Ok, I've read up on it and made some very necessary edits.

Are we talking player character races?
Dwarves and gnomes are often presumed to be technically minded, so they would probably fit the bill nicely.
As for other races, I'd say it depends very much on what the lay of the land is, so to speak.
A lot of svamps? Maybe savage lizardmen occupy the svampy regions, worshipping heathen gods and waiting for enlightenment by the civilised races. Or maybe they have an empire.
Maybe the northern regions are inhabited by a race of seal-people?
Maybe a race of short, hairy-footed people live in the lowlands of the civilised lands and grow most of the crops the lands are dependant on
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SAY YOU ARE JOKING. PLEASE SAY THIS IS A JOKE. PLEASE.

So, Lizardmen from Warhammer, Hobbits from LoTR and the bloody Tuskar from WoW.

Please say this was a joke.

If not its enough to make me want to quit the internets.
Well, the lizardmen are always a classic, the hobbits was indeed a joke and I have never, ever heard of anything called a Tuskar...
But this really just illustrates the point that most things have already been made up 10 times over, so good luck to the OP :)

What is the theme of your game?

Steampunk-ish tech doesn't get us anywhere - it could be anything from Jules Verne to Final Fantasy.

Where does it take place? You need to have crafted the world and the denziens of it, and slap the technology on. Anything can use steampunkish stuff, really.
