Buy this logic we should boycott all movies with a white Jesus in it :p. Because I'm sure that takes place in the middle east and no white people live there if i remember right :p.

Have to say I slightly agree with them. Heimdell is white in the comics therefore should be white in the movie. I'm well aware they're aliens but still... comic... white character...
Taking liberties fair enough but when you state the character as X he should remain X, if they can justify it fair enough.

For example if they made a Sandman movie and they casted Sandman as a black actor then fair enough as Sandman did spend some time as a black man to woo a woman. But in that case when he's in his normal form he should be as white as virgin snow as he quite literary white in colour and not white like we are. My problem with this is that if we were to remake the Zulu film and cast all the members of the British army as Asians and black folk and all the tribes men white, apart from being massively insensitive to the massacre of the natives it would also look stupid as it does kind of in this case (unless of course Heimdell becomes black at some point in the comics of course).

Now before someone states Jesus was Arabic and yet is portrayed as white well, I agree there he should be a bit more tanned and that should be corrected but its never stated what god's form is like (Apart from being male but that can still be changed because its god he unlike other gods has no set form, e.g Thor will always be a beardy white man with a hammer) and I loved Morgan Freemans role as god in that movie that I cant remember the name of as he was the only good part.

When skin colour is a part of the character it should stay constant, for example William Wallace being white was a part of who he is, ditto goes for Bruce Wayne. One is a real person and the other is fictional but both are established as being white. Just in the same way I?d be annoyed if anyone other than a black man played Steel, he?s black in the comics it?s a part of who he is.

But I'm not a big fan of the comics so this doesn't bother me that much as its a minor character so I'll still watch and enough the movie.

I say again, this goes both ways, I mean, you wouldn't want a character from African (say Zulu) mythos to be played by a white person no would you? Just stop fucking with race in films because you want to be politically correct. It's not adequate reason to change a character so.
Can we maybe stop assuming that whenever a black actor or actress gets a 'white' part it must be down to political correctness..

You know, maybe he's just a good actor. Maybe he blitzed the shit out of the audition and the casting people couldn't see anyone else playing the part. Maybe he brought an angle to the character which no-one else did and they felt it fitted the story. We have no idea what went on in the decision making process, so assuming he's being handed the part as some kind of racial concession is borderline offensive.

And yet these are the same sort of poeple who throw a fit if Jesus is depicted as anything other than a caucasian.

I'm sure the Norse were mostly all white, and as such would see their gods in the same manner. Of course, if you assume the gods came first (as is the case in EVERY creation myth) then the opinions and depictions of the culture supporting that religion don't me dick. Some people just look for something to get angry over because life would be too easy without jackasses.

On an unrelated note, I'm likely going to boycott the movie as well, but for completely different reasons. I'm boycotting it because I think Hollywood is a bunch of cheap-ass hacks that think expensive special effects make a good show.

"Did you know that the totally made-up-by-medieval-drunks gods of Norse mythology were all white? Literally none of them were African. We didn't know that, but thanks to the prodigious efforts of the Council of Conservative Citizens and their friends at Boycott-Thor.com, the truth has been revealed: Heimdall, Sentry of Asgard, was white and Idris Elba, the English actor hired to portray Heimdall in Marvel Studios' Thor, is black! BLACK!

More on this scandalous development after the jump!

The CCC's unhappiness with Elba's appearance in Thor jibes with the material on its Statement of Principles page, where they assert that "the United States is a European country and that Americans are part of the European people... that the American people and government should remain European in their composition and character," and thus "oppose all efforts to mix the races of mankind... to destroy or denigrate the European-American heritage, including the heritage of the Southern people, and to force the integration of the races." The Statement also makes plain the organization's desire for the United States to be extremely Christian, curmudgeonly, and for its citizens to appear as hobbit-like as possible.

As part of its tireless efforts to those ends, the CCC -- recognized as a genuine hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center -- wrote on its website that Marvel has "declared war on Norse mythology" with "an insulting multi-cultural makeover." Not a fan of Marvel in general, the CCC added that the publisher already "attacks conservative values" and "now mythological gods must be re-invented with black skin."

Marvel is similarly criticized on the politically conservative Boycott-Thor.com, whose motto is "Keep social engineering out of European mythology." Apparently unaware that Marvel orchestrated an elaborate and embarrassing plotline by which Spider-Man and his wife made a deal with the devil to erase their marriage from memory rather than see the iconic superhero suffer the destructive liberal indignity of divorce, Boycott-Thor.com put forth the following indictment of the publisher:

Marvel is headed by radical left-wingers who insert their ideologies and agendas into their comic books and movies.

In February 2010, the TEA Party movement was viciously attacked in an issue of Captain America. Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Qesada publicly defended the issue.

Marvel creator and front man Stan "Lee" Lieber is a notorious left-winger and financier of left-wing political candidates.

Elsewhere on the site, the Boycott-Thor.com author submitted that the reason "movies fail" is, "according [to] the experts," because of bad word-of-mouth. A Facebook page has been set up to help spread those bad words, and boasts a shocking 155-person "Like" count, but only a few comments.

"What is needed is a school campaign to get White kids to boycott everything that comes out of Marvel Studios," wrote a human being called Annis Isbell. Another fan of the boycott, James Hick wrote, "Need to try and get black sepratists in on this to. Let them know that marvel is trying to negate and down play their racial culture & heritage and saying by default blacks are cultureless unless they imbrace the white mans culture. That would sit a black back lash," which we suppose is an almost utopian sentiment for someone whose Facebook profile pic is the Confederate flag.

For his part, Idris Elba has playfully acknowledged the obvious incongruity between his complexion and what is conventionally thought to be the true appearance of a made-up mythological god who never existed. Best known for his superlative performance as Stringer Bell in HBO's The Wire and for his appearances on NBC's The Office (but identified by the CCC as "Hip Hop DJ Elba"), the performer told the UK's TV Times:

"There has been a big debate about it: can a black man play a Nordic character?" he told TV Times. "Hang about, Thor's mythical, right? Thor has a hammer that flies to him when he clicks his fingers. That's OK, but the colour of my skin is wrong? "I was cast in Thor and I'm cast as a Nordic god," he said. "If you know anything about the Nords, they don't look like me but there you go. I think that's a sign of the times for the future. I think we will see multi-level casting. I think we will see that, and I think that's good."

Obviously a fierce Googlebater, the Boycott-Thor author has kept track of his site's mentions in the media, and will no doubt read this ComicsAlliance post as well. He or she accuses our friends at Spinoff Online, who also covered this story, of "childish name-calling like 'racist,'" even though Spinoff writer Kevin Melrose's post is admirably neutral in its presentation of the facts and does not include the word "racist."

Our post will not be so neutral.

You people at the Council of Conservative Citizens and Boycott-Thor.com are racists. And because you believe that "racist" is a baseless term thrown out by "left-wingers" who "can't win based on the facts," I will explain precisely why you are racists, and I will do with the most relentless logic possible.

The reason Kenneth Branagh cast Stringer Bell as Heimdall in Thor is because that is awesome. Did you see the Thor trailer? Heimdall is awesome!

Along similar lines, the reason Mark Millar and Byran Hitch cast Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in The Ultimates is because that was awesome. Have you read The Ultimates? Have you seen Samuel L. Jackson in the Iron Man movies? He is awesome!

These are two stellar examples of demonstrable awesomeness, and, as such, they can only be refuted by the poisoned minds of hateful racists. While you are denying yourself what's sure to be a joyous popcorn epic in Thor and falling on the sword for the most socially, economically and politically dominant ethnicity in the world and their ridiculous ancient gods, we will be watching Chris Hemsworth (an Australian) and Idris Elba (an Englishman) bring to life one of the great American superheroes created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (JEWS!)

To adapt a quote from one of white culture's most celebrated and completely fake, totally made-up heroes, Buzz Lightyear: You are sad, strange little men, and you have our pity."

Thanks to comicsalliance for the story.
Okay while reading all I thought was: So does CCC means Cuke Cuke Clan? I mean Kuke and Kuke aren't actual words, so I think you can spell them any way you want and Klan is better written as Clan.
Other then that what is the point of your post? Yeah, conservative racist are stupid. (both conservatives and racist are able to posses some level of intelligence, but people that are racist and conservative are certainly not (of course there is always the exception that confirms the rule)). I mean are we really suppose to give a **** about what upsets people like that? I mean, Really? I don't know about you guys, but I have better things to do with my time.

It absolute crap, the Vikings had contact with many different people from the middle east to the western coast of Africa, hell they even unsuccessfully colonized North America. They met dark skinned people and they would have generally treat everyone the same, even if that treatment may sometimes come negatively in the form of raiding.

Therefore I don't a norseman would find it unreasonable that there might be black asgardians, because he would believe his gods were not just his peoples but everyones.

I think the whole part where they are GODS make them stand out quite enough. But sure, Jesus was black to. Hell all white people should be black to. Lets blackify everything!
Jesus certainly wasn't "white", if he tried to take a plane today he'd be given a private search. Jesus was a middle eastern Jew, he would have had dark hair and possibly very dark skin given the amount of sun exposure.

Yes, insulting a religion is the right way to go. LOL, hang about, Jesus is mythical, right? Jesus can turn water to wine, and ressurrect the dead. That's OK, but him being portrayed as *white/black/mexican/arab/everything everyone changes it* is wrong?

Hang about, Shiva is mythical, right? Shiva can destroy worlds. That's OK, but the Shiva being portrayed by a Native American is wrong?

How about for this site specifically, I'm white I was cast as Goku, I'm white I was cast as characters in Avatar, see where I'm going with this? Those guys are wrong on everything else, but Norse Gods are white, period. African Gods are African, SHOCKING!

[HEADING=1]Heimdall, called "The White God". Whitest of the aesir(all Norse Gods), as white as the sun.[/HEADING]

Heimdall isn't just white, he's blonde hair blue eyes white. He's so white that when he goes skiing you can't see him in the snow. He's so white he gets sunburn from a 40 watt light bulb.
I guess here goes the famous portraits of Heimdall:

I'll still watch it, I'll still enjoy it, I'll watch the second one. And Idris Elba will probably do an amazing job, but the point stands.

Oh yeah I forgot that hillarious aspect. Okay, so maybe this is inaccurate, but I'd still accept black asgardians in other roles. But hey if we're lucky they'll lampshade it.

Thanks for a well written post.

Elba is a cracking actor, he was fantastic in The Wire, and that is why he has been cast. It's that simple. He has a promising career in front of him, and I'm sure a big mmovie like this will propel him to new heights.

It makes me sad that there are still people in the world, in this day and age, that still can't see past skin colour.

Ok, Black or White, that looks pretty damn awesome and probably the closest to a real-life Jack Kirby look as we're ever gonna get.

So now, we have to deal with a racist group wanting all white Norse gods, just like we had to deal with a group of racists crying about us killing black zombies in RE5? I mean really, C'mon? There has to be better places they can spend money on crying about and actually do something that will help everyone, like, find the cure for cancer or something.

This is stupid. When making Dogma, Kevin Smith got death threats because he had a 13 appostle that was left out of the Bible because he was black and portrayed God as a woman. People need to get a grip, religion is open to interpretation. The way I see it, these are a bunch of racists that have jumped on this just to be racist. Sure, some of them are probably religious, but like the student protests in London, people just turn up to cause trouble.

While I've never read these comics, it still goes to reason that the gods of the Norse mythology, basically part of my heritage since I'm Scandinavian, are white. Why? Because we are. We're all pale-ass motherfuckers 'cause we live in the far north. It's kinda like portraying Ra of Egyptian mythology as asian. There's nothing racist in it, and it's a pity that racists have taken this cause, but it's a pretty valid point that norse gods are, well, norse.

All this "no mixed races" bullshit can fuck right off, though.
Quoted for stating exactly what im thinking, thanks man.
