Personally, I won't shed a single tear if this movie never happens. I've already played the game, I know how the story goes, and regardless of how much money is spent on it, I doubt that it could be substantially improved upon by the industry that gave the world Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. In fact, the suits will probably insist on dumbing it down, in order to maximize the odds that their multi-million-dollar gamble will pay off.

If I want more Bioshock, I'll play the game again, or buy the sequel. If I must, I'll simulate the video game movie experience by giving someone else ten bucks and watching over their shoulder while they play the game. Save your money, Hollywood, and stick to what you're good at: mall-cop movies and feature-length remakes of old TV shows. I don't think anyone's done The A-Team yet...

Gore Verbinski is pretty much up there with Michael Bay when it comes to "movies with lots of razzle-dazzle but no substance and lots of cliches". But don't worry folks. Only about 5% of movies actually make it from planning stage to finsihed production, so fingers crossed it will never happen and Bioshock will remain unruined.

Well, I'm glad that they're at least taking the time to get this right, hopefully, and that Uwe Boll won't be getting his filthy paws on the franchise. I hope this turns out well.

Verbinski, who turned down the opportunity to direct the fourth installment of Pirates of the Carribean to direct Bioshock (THE GAME ABOUT OBJECTIVISM), said: "We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit."
Oh IRONY, you're not just an achievement anymore!

Yeah I'm really interested to see how they do this, it could definitely turn out really good. I just think it would probably better with American accents, because that's how everyone talked in the game if I remember right. I hope it gets moving soon though.
Actually, Fontaine sounded Irish, Tenenbaum German, lots of Splicer were British or Scottish, someone on an audio file sounded Russian. It was a pretty diverse, multicultural, diversity-embracing, mass-murdering society.

Sorry, as I said I hadn't played it in awhile. But still not everyone was British, so yeah.

They still need American actors. Can you imagine, say, a Mexican Andrew Ryan? A Japanese Diane McClintock?

That would be great, methinks.
Why beef with all of this is that people complain about movies costing too much, but then when they skimp on the budget and are universally rejected, the suits act like it was the fault of the director/producer/anyone else.
Hell, they balked at Halo's budget, a near guaranteed blockbuster, because the crew behind it didn't want a slop job.

So you mean it's like America?

I kid, I kid. Anyhoo, it's good to know that Verbinski turned down milking the Pirates franchise for all it's worth in favor of this, because this actually has quite a lot of potential and I think it's going to turn out good.
