Reading on the toilet

How is it physically possible to take so long taking a dump?
I'm in and out in about five minutes, so I don't have time to read. I usually end up spending these five minutes thinking about life, the universe and everything.

I've often wondered how my friend can waste 20 precious minutes of his life on the bathroom on one shitting.

I always read on the can. Even if I only have a few minutes or it turns into a long debacle. Usually I'm a fast enough reader that I can work through an entire chapter in the typical 20 minutes I'm in there.

My roommates and I keep a copy of The New York Times' Sunday crossword puzzle and we leave it there 'till it gets finished and we only work on it while we're on the can. Our record is 2-weeks.

I think books are a natural laxative, seriously, everytime I go to a bookstore I have to shit. When I'm at home, everytime I have to shit, I take a book with me.

Sometimes... But not often.

When I do number one, I'm usually done so quickly, I don't have time. In and out. When I do number two, I'm probably cramping so bad I couldn't possibly concentrate through the pain long enough to read anything.

Often when I do read, it's just to get away from everybody else and I'm already done but just haven't gotten up yet.

I do tend to read, I don't go overboard in the duration just something to do if progress is slow. Books, magazines or my phone all do the job. Quick few pages or an article, whatever. Although once I got slightly involved in a book's finale and was sat for nearly an hour without noticing.

I refuse on principle to take any actual reading material into the bathroom because I think it's weird, but I will usually grab a shampoo bottle or something and read the ingredients, in a variety of accents. Go figure.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who does that

OT: I don't read a magazine or anything, I'm usually only on the toilet for < 3 minutes. I usually just pet my cat because she doesn't seem to understand privacy... Its not like I walk in on her doing her business every time....

sometimes sometimes i mess on the laptop...
my dad used to do it loads...although he read loads...like one in the downstairs loo one in the upstairs loo, one in the car, living room...my dad likes his books...It was always a pain in the arce if you needed the loo and he was in there as you knew he would be a while for as long as that book was in his hand.

I have a room-mate that at times reads on the shitter, it is fucking annoying for someone to be in the only bathroom in the house/apt for 30-60 mins. There is no need for anyone to ever be in the bathroom that long. A shit-shower-shave should take no more than 15 minutes(Total, for all 3).

I can't really imagine a fire in the bathroom while in it, but I have been taking a dump when a girl that was living with me started a fire in the kitchen and had no idea what to do.

I get in so much DS time on the can. It feels so much better when you can take your time to 'drop the kids off at the pool', as opposed to having nothing to do, and taking the stance of 'okay, let's get this over with quickly' (unless prior engagements keep you).

Well for it's a toss up between a game guide I have for a few games, my DS, my iphone to either play games or browse online or whatever Warhammer 40K book I'm reading at the moment. Thankfully most of the time in there is just me getting distracted from either reading or playing whatever game I'm working on at the moment. I usally stop when my legs start to go numb or cramp up slightly, that pins and needles feeling sucks when it hits my feet.... D:
