I've been wondering about The Colony (Discovery Channel Show). Is it scripted or fake? I'm pretty sure it's fake. I think its strange that they seem so afraid of attack, they're on a TV show. If one of them were injured wouldn't the Discovery Channel be in trouble? I think they're just presented situations, to keep the tension going.

Meh, I can forgive discovery channel for stuff like that dragon thing, because of one thing, it shows they are not afraid to think big. They occasionally do these "what if" shows where they fabricate a thing then explain the thing and show how physically it could work or be real and never let on that it's actually fake, until low and behold it was all the wet dream of one of the big wigs at discovery that got a little too much funding. But I think that's OK, because its snake oil being sold AS SNAKE OIL, not as all purpose magic serum like on MTV (I hope you all caught the metaphor) its like the daily show, entertaining and not necessarily wholesome but not trying to pretend its good and wholesome.
On the other hand, there are a select few reality shows that I really get behind, namely Deadliest Catch, and a show called B.U.D.S. on the military channel, if you don't know what the latter is look it up on youtube, its about making navy SEALS and it will make you value your daily commute.

They do races on top gear based on the specs of the cars, they basically take the car they're talking about and if they want it to look good they'll take another car that is taken as being really good, yet somehow slower than the featured car. its not rigged, but they cherry pick their results.Corpse XxX said:
Im thinking about this every time i watch documentaries, where is the line between factual accuracy and buffing it up for entertainment value... It kills the fun whenever i start to think about that. Stuff that's purely theoretical particularly does that to me, like the History show on what would happen to earth if humans disappeared, or things like shows about space that use heavy CGI to represent space bodies. During one of their end-of-season shows they did a "Making of" episode. And it shows they don't go much farther than a basic "Say what you said to me an hour ago, the lens cap was on." They also edit out most of the "non-fisherman" crew members on the boats unless they do something story-specific. Also, many of the non-story line shots of them just working the rails are spliced up and re-arranged.
All in all, they don't change what happened, they just spice it up for TV.
