In the summer drought of games and with me getting very tired of Civilization 4, Age Of Empires III, and Stronghold 2 I find myself seriously strapped in the RTS category.

So I guess what I asking is, are there any RTS games you recommend? (Preferably PC, I like the KB+Mouse combo for RTS. It just feels right.)

and

What are some of your favorite older ones? Recommendations

Edit: I think a lot of people got disappointed when the opened up my thread.

I would recommend Supreme Commander, although your going to need a pretty up-to-date computer to play it with good graphics on. Its fun because of the extremely large battles and there are loads of units for each army to choose from. Also, as a side note, Civ 4 isn't technicaly an RTS, its turn based. But thats just nitpicking.

Command and Conquer series, Cossacks 2, Dawn of War, Battle for Middle earth.

Medieval 2 is not RTS.

Sins of a Solar Empire is fairly entertaining.

Warcraft III is, of course, pretty awesome.
Second on the Sins. Nothing says RTS like a good twelve hour 50 planet free for all.

These, and I would suggest Command and Conquer Generals. It's like Warcraft 3 meats C&C. Makes for a great mix, and isn't overly difficult.

Command & Conquer Generals (and the expansion Zero hour) is seriously the most fun RTS game I've ever played (graphics aren't too shabby for 2003 either). After that comes Warcraft 3 (and its expansion Frozen Throne) which has such a unique and intriguing story, and the campaign missions are so fun!

Go buy Command and Conquer: The First Decade.
Other good games include Company of Heroes, Empire: Total War, and World in Conflict.

Age of Mythology, Age of Empires, Command and Conquer, Starcraft, Warcraft 3. All of those are good. All of the series are good.

Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Red Alert 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, Hearts of Iron 1/2/3, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes.

Not really RTS(Like Civ gameplay+RTS):

Medieval 2:Total War+Kingdoms+Stainless Steel 6.1 mod(the mod is free), Rome:Total War+Barbarian Invasion and Empire Total War. You can get all Total War games on STEAM for less than 60 euros I think.

Agreed. Supreme Commander is probably the best RTS i've ever played, and it's got a really active modding community as well. Have a look at Earth 2150 as well, quite an interesting way of building units in it. You research weapons, upgrades and chassis and then just stick them on top of each other to make your own units.

Old RTSs that I'd recommend are StarCraft and Age of Empires 2. I know you said you were bored of AoE 3, but I haven't played that one so I don't know how different it is from 2.

Another one that I sort of recommend is Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. At its core, it's basically just a mod on Age of Empires 2, but I still thought it was pretty fun back in the day.

The only new RTS that I'm even remotely familiar with is Dawn of War, plus all of the expansions. If you're going to go with that one, get the Platinum Edition of the first game and the Soulstorm expansion. That way, you can play all of the campaigns and all of the races in multiplayer.

I recommend Dawn of War above all others, but if you just want older ones, you know my two cents already.
