They were on Page 2 or something. Apparently you saw the need to post on this thread despite not having any reason to have a vested interest in it.
I always post in threads I have no vested interest in.

Have you seen some of the threads that pop up on this forum?

If we all just waited for ones we actually cared about it would be a very quiet forum.

Plus it's incredibly amusing to make posts that are obviously not serious and see if someone takes it seriously. Although it's almost certain that someone here will take it seriously, there are people here that take EVERYTHING seriously.

I didn't reply because there was no need. They had served their purpose and given me a giggle.

Fair 'nuff, I can't blame you for that. After all, "amusement" is pretty much the only reason I stay here myself.

Obviously all the classics mentioned so far are great but my favourite recently is MC Solo from Horrorshow. I think he was only 17 or 18 when this was recorded and it's probably one of the deepest hip-hop songs I've ever heard, it's so heartfelt and passionate. It's been a long time since I've seen a MC this personal.

Critical Beatdown is nothing less than a blueprint for the future of rap, Ultramagnetic MC's first and only good album.
Black Sheep just barely caught the tail of the golden age of hip hop before "gangsta rap" became the dominant form.

After rap became more accepted and eventually became pop-rap it necessarily became simpler, here we have a schism between pop-rap and the more classic complex sample driven tracks that you find in underground rap.

Lyrics Born is simply amazing on this track.

MF Doom has literally been rapping since 1989 and has had something like seven aliases, five of them he created in the past ten years and in the same amount of time has been featured on something like 110 albums 27 of them his own.

I can't recommend this album enough. With Beauty and the Beat Edan takes all the lyrical inspiration of the new school(1989-1993) and seamlessly adapts it to complex post 2000 funk sampled turntablism.

Jack Parow deserves a special mention for both being very earnest and managing not to give a single fuck about anything on earth.

Also, he raps through a thick Soufrican accent (no, I don't know which one), which is worth a medal in and of itself.

Second (and last, due to my ignorance of rap and hip hop) up are the Five Deez. They're technically a hip hop group, but it's close enough for me. Plus, they're from Cincinatti, Ohio, which to my knowledge is not exactly a place known for its expansive rap scene.

I really like Andre Nickatina.
He probably falls under the "Rappers everyone knows" though.
Repping the Bay area

One of my favorites.
