While media can indulge the fantasies of many, I also believe that at some point one should be exposed to media that challenges their world view to help them grow
Can you please provide an example of who is that statement directed at, because I don't know what you mean or who you're referring to there...

it's more a general statement but lets use perceptions of sex as an example.

when you are in high school, the stereotype is "get laid and get laid often" if stuff like Project X or some of the bad sex comedies are to be believed. However, it is very apparent as you get older that that mindset can be detrimental in certain circumstances. If parents or teachers are unable to talk high school age people about these potential problems, then the exposure to different media can help.

To make a more general conclusion, if a person's worldview is restricted to x, media can help show worldview y and help them become more attuned to stuff outside of their viewpoint

This applies to all people not just any individual in this forum so don't take it as an attack.

I'm sorry OP, but this seems like a personal issue.

Don't like the show, don't watch it.

I didn't like Attack on Titan or Deadman Wonderland - but I didn't go ***** about them. I just stopped watching them because I didn't like them or think them very good.

People are allowed to like different things. I like some anime a lot of people are going to think are stupid, bad or useless but I'm not going to hold a gun to their head to try and make them like it or watch it, and no one is doing it to you with Cross Ange.

Umm...okay, well I watch a pretty huge variety of anime and I'm sure you do too. If you go by the majority of anime fans' "top" lists you will find people generally agree that anime should have good stories, characters, etc and only use fanservice when/where it's actually fits.

So I still can't figure out why you're even saying something so generic or how it's relevant to this topic.

But literally every criticism or analysis ever made by every person are "personal issues."

Telling people that they aren't allowed to dislike what other people like is just the opposite extreme of telling people to dislike what over people to like. Also no one is holding a gun to anyone's head here so can the theatrics.

At any rate, I guess with regards to how people could derive any kind of enjoyment from Cross Ange at all would have to be on the absolute basest level possible, which comes down to pretty visuals, half naked kawaii teenage girls, and ultra violence.

Edit: And Cross Ange goes above and beyond with its awfulness in its latest episode. The message is basically "you'll be listless, terrible, and detestable until a generic perfect handsome guy (your average harem lead) enters your life and guides you to happiness for you, because the notion of bettering yourself and changing who you are on your own is folly"

Like I said, I was expecting the "all she needed was a man" trope and while it's not as bad as I thought, it's still pretty stupid with me smacking my head over and over

on a personal level, the fact that they got Setsuna F. Seiei's seiyuu to voice Tusk made me a bit angry "we get it, you made Gundam 00, stop reminding me before you tarnish the Gundam franchise"

The problem the OP is that most people would've just gone "Eh, bad show. Will not watch" and left it at that.

OP seems to have made it his personal crusade to preach how bad this anime is.....probably encouraging more people to watch it in doing so.

a bad show is one thing, Terraformars and its censorship is one example of a show I could go "it's bad" and leave it at that

Cross Ange has two things going against it.

-One, it's strike three after Valvrave and Buddy Complex for Sunrise's original series in terms of narrative and characters. It seems to rip into it's own library for references and archetypes without updating, modifying or even just doing them well.

-Two. this show particularly in the first two episodes is another show that thinks "blood and sex makes us mature". No, it doesn't, it kind of makes you more immature. No subtlety of themes, completely juvenile fanservice and framing even in inappropriate scenes, utterly hatable characters with no counter balancing personality traits. It feels like a bunch of spoiled 12 year olds watched Psycho Pass or Berserk, decided "I can do that but better" and made the script for this. I rail against shows of this mindset because it makes our favorite media look bad and hinder the progress of anime towards being more artistically accepted.

Well, if nothing else, the most recent episode at least had good fanservice.

The story is still rushed, the characters "develop" at the speed of an attention-starved kitten high on catnip, the situations are forced (Tusk could free himself - within seconds and without problems it seems - only when he saw Ange breaking down in front of him? Really?) and use stupid plot devices for the hell of it ("sucking out the venom", yeah right ...) and they mistake "dropping flashback clips, multiple times so that we get they're IMPORTANT" for "building up a mystery". It's a dumb show taking itself way too seriously.

But the fanservice is finally good.
