Some good suggetions here.

I got the impression that the TS may also appreciate Gothic 2.

Right, well I've looked into Drakensang, and it looks pretty cool. But I'm really disappointed with the lack of customisation of character appearance. A lot of the characters look really lame, and I love creating myself an alter-ego anyway. I'm pretty disappointed with that :-( If it was on budget then I might pick it up, but not for £29. This pretty much means the Witcher is out as well.. :-( (although I'm certainly gonna have a look at the demo).

I tried Arcanum too, and the display reminds me a lot of fallout. Its something I'll certainly pick up in the future, but I'm also wrestling with fallout's graphics at the moment, so I don't feel I can take this on as well.

Stupid Steam's stupid RPG section being bloated by FPSs. BIOSHOCK IS AN FPS. IT IS NOT AN RPG. SURELY the fact that it is from a first person perspective, and that you shoot gives it away. Its all in the acronyms. A minor amount of character customisation =/= roleplaying game.

/rant

Anyway, still looking for options. Currently having a research of vampire.
EDIT: Oh, and how is Gothic 2? Gothic always struck me as a possibility, but it got mediocre write-ups. Was Gothic 2 an improvement?

Update: Ok, so I'm still looking. Most of those I was investigating don't have the character generation I'm looking for. I resent the idea of playing as a Nameless Hero, as well as a lack of character creation.

Damn, this is harder than I thought :-( I guess I'm more demanding than I supposed...

I've heard that Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is very good.
Though apparently the x-box version sucked.

It is, but the combats pretty first person ish, which the guy said he didn't want.

I agree with the Fable 1 or 2 even. If your a star wars fan id say maybe Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy thats kinda good, Yea its both single campain and multiplayer and has a little story line but hey its not bad.

Demon's Souls is amazing, if you're willing to import the Hong Kong/English version of the game from Play Asia or something. It'll be re-published by Atlus (creators of the Shin Megami Tensei (Megaten) series) in about 5 or so months and released stateside through them. But waiting on that is almost not an option!

This is probably one of the greatest action-RPG titles i've played in awhile. Dauntingly difficult, yes. But a very fun learning experience. Also, the game is pretty dark in some areas as well, and kind of gives me a Shadow Hearts or Parasite Eve vibe in some cases. Sort of like a survival-horror. It's kind of a mix between Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry. And no, is not a TB-RPG. It's entirely action-RPG. Like Fallout 3.

I highly suggest importing Demon's Souls. I dunno if there's gonna be any DLC for it, however. And if there is, the American marketplace PSN DLC will likely not work for the Asian-English version of the game. Only the English one. So you'll likely have to re-purchase the American version when the time comes in 5 or so months.

Or skip the DLC, based on how good/bad it is. If it even happens.

Either way, I highly suggest this game.
It's VERY difficult, yes. But VERY worth it in the end.

As far as CRPGs go, the Witcher is the only thing good that is semi-recent and you already hit all the older great games. You should know that Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines is typically considered the spiritual successor to Deus Ex, so you may not like it.

Straying a little bit from both the CRPGs and newer games, you could try A Rouge-like such as Nethack. Only if you don't mind dying a lot, though.

My list:

1. Golden Sun / Golden Sun: Lost Age (GBA)
2. Tales of Symphonia (GCN)
3. Tales of Vesperia (360)

I highly recommend all of them. Golden Sun especially if you enjoy puzzles, and the Tales games especially if you like the Super Smash Bros. games.

EDIT: okay, the first three aren't exactly new, but they are amazing. I should replay Golden Sun, it's been so long...

I'm looking for recent, good RPGs.

What I'm not looking for are:
i) MMOs. Just no.
ii) FPSs. Deus Ex was brilliant. It was also an FPS. The same is true of Bioshock, and pretty much any other first-person "RPG" you care to name.
iii) Button-mashing RPGs. Hated Diablo II.
iv) Oblivion/Elder Scrolls/whatever. I don't know why, but I just don't like this.

What I've played:
i) NWN1/2. All content. Including Mysteries of Westgate. NWN2: MotB was the best, but the whole NWN2 series was awesome. NWN1 sucked.
ii) Baldur's Gate I/II/ToB.
iii) Planescape: Torment.
iv) Both KotORs.
v) Fallout 1/2/3.
vi) Mass Effect.
EDIT: vii) Also Icewind Dale I/II/HoW, but I never really got into these properly, probably due to lack of character development/plot/annoying idling models where the characters look around blankly even in combat.

The above were all awesome. I'm not picky, really, in terms of setting. Futuristic/fantasy are both good. Just something with a good plot, good characters, and RPGy.

Any suggestions?
Daiblo 2 is good in compression to other button mashers that have no soul, The witcher is is neat but I hated it because its just a snore to play and the menu system was unintuitive....

Arx fatalisis is a good FP RPG, Dark Messiah is a handicap and watered down rebranded sequel its kinda like DX:IW simple but it can be fun it has some of the ebst melee combat in any FP game.

Gothica might be better than Morrwind/Obivloin for you to play I dunno you have to try and paly it.

I hate MMos and most new shallow RPGs FF12 is a joke broken skill system bland equipment...nothing I hate more than bland and boreing equipment...

Gaming has gone to pot I don't keep up much anymore.
