Resistance. Nothing hard about that game.. *Cue Laughter*

Check out Left 4 Dead, it's pretty easy to pick up and play.

For the PC you can go way back when it comes to FPS. On it you have Halo, Rainbow Six, Half Life, Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Just go to a games store with a lot of PC games and I'm sure you'll find something good :D

Bioshock is not an RPG.

But a good game to train FPS skills would be Painkiller.
Every level is filled with enemies, and it has every standard FPS weapon. You'll learn everything you need to survive online in that game.

Goldeneye for the N64 was pretty good...

Oh, if you're looking for a halfway decent multiplayer shooter, you can try Combat Arms, from Nexon. It's a fairly simple, straightforward FPS. It's free, it's fun, and so long as you don't deal with the mostly 12-year-old troll population, the community isn't bad.

Except, beware; if you get too good at it, you WILL be accused of hacking. So be prepared for that.

Halo, obv.

You should start with genre-blending games. Metroid Prime, Mirror's Edge, Deus Ex, Thief, etc...

If you really want a forgivingly easy "go here kill this" fps, play Serious Sam on Tourist mode.

bioshock is a first-person RPG. but no matter, that and Painkiller should be quite awesome.

Halo 3, everybody's doing it. Gears of War if you feel the need to challenge yourself, 2 is easier. TF2 on pc is serious, so be careful if you're thinking about that, there's lots to learn and nobody is going to tell you where to learn it. COD4 might be good for a new fps player, but I would personally introduce somebody to the fps genre with either Halo: Combat Evolved or TF2 on pc, but I haven't actually introduced anybody to fpses and I was already a good fps player when I got TF2 so I'm not really sure about that though.
Gears of War is not an FPS, its a 3rd person shooter. and halo is shit compared to most pc FPS games.

Halo: Combat Evolved has a nice, even difficulty curve (on Normal, anyway), some memorable levels and pretty addictive gameplay. It should ease you into the genre nicely.

Gears of War and Halo 3 seem to be pretty easy going for beginners. I don't know about the 360 version, but don't touch the PC version of TF2 until you're seriously good, because it won't do to be learning how to aim while bunny hopping and working out which class does well at what in what situation against which combination of classes.
geez... Gears of War isnt an FPS.

Stick with TF2. Just make sure you join a server with more casual players, otherwise playing on a server with more competitive people will suck for a beginner such as yourself. Its cartoony and easy to pick up and play, but it also has a surprisingly high skill ceiling for most classes. I highly recommend pyro for someone new.

Beat all of the Call of Duty games on Veteran.
Don't get Halo, Halo blows. Don't get Gears either since someone suggested it, but it isn't an FPS.

And if you stick with TF2 don't play as a Pyro, Pyro sucks. Be a Scout.

Halo3 is probably one of the worst suggestions. The first level would be horrible for someone whos new to FPS or bad at them. Halo1 would be a far better choice. But keep going with the orange box or L4D id say. Maybe even get HalfLife2. They are the most user friendly games about at the moment.

That's a matter of opinion. I wouldn't call BioShock an RPG at all. But, again, I suppose it's just an opinion. Either way the game is pretty great.

If you have a ps2, I found Black to be laughably easy on normal. So you can basically imagine what easy was like.=) Also, COD4 wasn't that hard. I would say start with Black or L4D, and work up to Bioshock. After that, you should be average at worst.
