I'll also throw in my recommendation for Star Wars Republic Commando 
Also, Star Wars Battlefront 2 (I think Battlefront 1 as well) allows you to play the entire game in FPS mode if you want (it's in the settings and can even be assigned to a hotkey) so technically I think that counts
For one that hasn't been mentioned yet, I haven't actually played it but I remember hearing good stuff about Sin Episodes: Emergence. For recent stuff that is mainly single player and non-competitive...yeah I haven't got much unfortunately :S

Does Wolfenstein: The New Order count as Scifi? Because it's got giant robots, laser guns and a moon base set in an alternate timeline.

Well since most of the good stuff was already mentioned I'm not going to repeat it.
But there is still Serious Sam HD and Serious Sam 3, not the most sci-fi and the story is Duke Nukem level, but if you want to kick some alien monster ass with insane weaponry then that is the way to go.
You can also put Borderlands into the mix, but those games are 60% about loot grinding and the rest of the game is just enough to give you a reason to grind that loot.

Heard Prey is a very good sci-fi FPS.
And since people are arleady throwing rpgmixes: Chronicles of Riddick, good mix of stealthy and shooty action.

The Crysis series has sci-fi elements - cloaking devices, powered armour, etc.
The Alien vs Predator games - generally the older the better (AvP Classic 2000 is often on steam sale)
Bit of a weird one, but Sanctum and Sanctum 2 are sci-fi FPS, though there's a major tower defense element and emphasis on ability synergies.

Second this. Serious Sam is hardly serious (Kill a huge number of aliens in wave after wave in exotic locations with interesting weapons) but it's a lot of fun to play. In SS3 I was getting a routine kill count of at least 1000 per level. The final level is at least double if not triple that.Smooth Operator said:
AVP is better for pure terror, but AVP2 has a storyline, where Predator storyline, Alien Storyline and Marine storyline actually cross and affect each other. So you actually have to play all three of them in order to see the full story.OneCatch said:

Cutting out the infinitely respawning aliens in the marine campaign must have counted as one of those refinements because it was undoubtedly more balanced, but made it a little less tense overall.

Cheap as chips on Steam as well. Especially when the sales come on (it gets big discounts).
