The title says it all. I've been wanting to play some more challenging RPGs but I don't know of any and figured the great community of the escapist could help me out. So any RPGs that you know of for the PC, just tell me their names, maybe a little plot or backstory and if there is a leveling system.

[sub]EDIT:Srry, hadn't found one through search bar-you can lock and delte[/sub]

Oblivion? Fallout? those are both by bethesda, who make amazingly big rpg's. They're a lot of fun, and you'll never run out of stuff to do

Mount & Blade: Warband, for the combat alone (Best sword combat in any game to date.)

To even begin to describe all of the features would be a tireless effort, so I'll leave it at this: recruit an army, mold them into efficient killing machines, and take what you want. And that's only one portion of it.

Try Dragon Age Origins. That one is amazing and if you dont like mid-evil stuff then get StarWars Knights of the Old republic.

Earthbound if like JRPGs. you play psychic kids traveling across "eagleLand" if like it, check out mother 3, the sequal.

also Survival crisis z. may be hard to get working though.

Dragon Age is awesome for a current gen title. If you're willing to go retro, though, you can't beat the Baldur's Gate series. It's D&D and the series that launched BioWare to its current status. It's available through GOG and Amazon, so there's really no reason not to play it

That looks really fun-I'll look for a demo before buying though.

I would say go for Dragon Age (only RPG I have for the PC so I can honestly say it's the best RPG I have for my PC :3)
Also I know its off topic but your avatar picture is one of the cutest I've seen on this website ^_^
Thanks for the compliment on my avatar :D And ya, but should I wait for the second Dragon Age first?

I really enjoyed Mass Effect, but it's an RPG with shooter combat and I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. If you want a more traditional take I'd strongly suggest Dragon Age, or really almost anything by Bioware would be good.

As for whether you should wait I'd say play the first one now that way you can import your world into the next one.

Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn is easily the best rpg ever made I'd say, and easily among the best games overall ever made. Solid combat, great story, entertaining companions, intriguing antagonist, huge world, beautiful 2D visuals, tons of re-playability, the whole works!

Planescape: Torment has a better story, and Icewind Dale 2 better combat (All three games using the same engine!), but Baldur's Gate 2 is the only one to be the 'whole package' sort of deal.

Also easily available via Gog.com, updated to run on modern computers and with the expansion: Throne of Bhall thrown in as well! :D

Backstory? You're the son of the long dead God of Murder, and you just killed your brother who was eviler than you. Suddenly, your party is caught and sent to the dungeon of a very powerful mage who is eviler than your brother and starts doing experiments on you and your godly taint.

Erm, slight spoilers there for anyone who hadn't played Baldur's Gate 1, which itself is also a damn good game I'd highly recommend.

It really depends on what you like, and what features make up an RPG for you, however I would recommend Knights of the Old Republic 2, Morrowind and Oblivion, and Mass Effect 1 and 2. The Mass Effect series are two of the best games I've played. Fallout 1 was excellent in its day, as was the Legend of the Dragoon on the PS1, which is odd because I usually don't like JRPG's. They both may be a bit dated now though.

I'd have to go with Dragon Age. Fantastic RPG for the PC. I've wasted damn near 200 hours on that game. I would definitely say Dragon Age. And, if you enjoy Origins, you could pick up Awakening as well.

Heh, I have the same problem as the OP (need a PC RPG), but looking through all the suggestions in this thread, I've played through almost all of them (multiple times), with the exception of M&B which I just don't like.

Can someone recommend me an OBSCURE PC RPG?

Eschalon book 1 OT Fallout 1&2 2 is much better but 1 is required to get the most out of 2 and is still a fantastic game

Fallout 1&2 counts as obscure? Man, I feel old. Also, played Eschalon, didn't like it.
