So, there are only about 500 of these threads so I'll get right to the point. I would really like to watch an anime with minimal or no filler. No cliff-hangers, but ongoing is ok, although I would prefer one that has been completed. I don't particularly care what genre, so long as it isn't typical life type stuff. Has to be some element of supernatural or abnormality or it just won't interest me.

I've done a lot of looking on my own, and I generally hate recommend anime threads because the same 12 anime get suggested over and over and I've seen them all, but I'm absolutely desperate. I need my anime fix and I'm all out of ideas.

Off the top of my head, I've seen:
Keep in mind I've been watching anime for almost a decade so this list will be incomplete

Kaze no Stigma
D Man Gray
Bleach
Naruto
DBZ
Busou Renkin
High School of the Dead
Air Gear
FMA
FMAB
Code Geass
Death Note
Vandread
Cowboy Bebop
Saber Marionette
Wolf's Rain
Blood Plus
Trinity Blood
Claymore
Soul Eater
Inuyasha
Witchblade
Chobits
Haruhi Suzumia
Gundam Seed
Gundam Seed destiny
Gundam Wing
Gundam 00
Tokko
Tokyo Underground
Ghost in the Shell
Samurai Deeper Kyo
Afro Samurai

Wow, that is one weird list

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Edit: because they are so popular and this might get me better recommendations, I'm just going to say right now, that I can't stand Neon Genesis Evangelion, or Cowboy Bebop. Code Geass, FMA, FMAB, Gundam Seed, and High School of the Dead are my top 5 anime. Hope that helps.

Try Hellsing Ultimate. An anime with proper vampires and is pretty gory at some parts and is the origin of my avatar.

Or you could just watch the many parodies if you didn't want something so serious:

I'd suggest the following if you want deep stuff.

"Ghost Hound"
"Serial Experiments Lain"
"Welcome to the NHK" (a personal favorite in this area)
Yus these three...

Serial Experiments Lain is my favorite anything ever...

and actually most anything from Chiaki Konaka or Yoshittoshi ABe... the two minds behind the show... and some stuff by Ryotaro Nakamura, the director... though honestly his filmography is pretty mixed... but Abe's is basically a laundry list of real stand outs...<.<

Haibane Renmei...
Texhnolyze...
NieA_7...
Armitage III...
Birdy The Mighty...
RahXephon...
Parasite Dolls...
The Big O... Kind of...<.<

Even Digimon TAmers had it's moments at the hands of Konaka... besides we all know that was the best season and the only one I can call actually good...

but other than there filmography...

Ergo Proxy...
Boogiepop Phantom...
Paranoia Agent...
Sci Fi Harry... kind of...<.<
Mushi-Shi...
Appleseed...

just off the top of my head...

also The Ghost in The Shell movie... I didn't like the show at all... although closer to the manga in tone and characters... the movies were really the highlight with the much more mature and unique tone. the way it handled it's themes and setting better was much more coherent and impactful as well... wh

Edit: also Evangelion... it was pretty good... even though the ending of the show and the movie just ruined the entire series for me... the show because it has no closure and was generally crap... and the movie because it also had no closure, left the plot an unraveled mess and was rage inducingly pretentious in every respect...<.<

Edit: Also keep an eye out for Despera... it's been put on hold for now but it looks promising since it's basically reunited the three minds behind Serial Experiments Lain...
I'll just quote myself from another thread...<.<

An I'll add

Berserk...
Hellsing Ultimate...
Gundam the 08th MS Team...
Blue Sub No. 6...
and I'll add more when I think of them...

Steins;Gate
Toaru Majutsu no Index
Black Lagoon
Rurouni Kenshin
Elfin Lied
Eureka Seven
Bakemonogatari
Full Metal Panic
Ghost Hunt

Those are a few that I can think of that I don't see on that list. Although when you say no typical life stuff, I assume you mean the whole slice-of-life genre, which limits it to mainly (but not only) action-oriented anime.
I don't exactly know what you like or dislike though.

Action, comedy, romance, horror. Pretty much anything. I actually like slice of life in other genres which is weird, but I have never found a slice of life anime that i could even tolerate except one, and I think that was because the main character was a vampire. I don't remember the name, but it was a romantic comedy and the main character produced too much blood instead of draining it, and the vampires had a taste for specific emotions. I didn't even really like that one, but it was good enough I watched it all the way through one summer for lack of anything else to watch.

And thanks for the suggestions. I haven't tried many of those.

Watch Rainbow. Its about seven people in a horrible reformatory after WW2 and their journey and struggle. It sounds pretty dark and it can be from time to time but its also light hearted. It's only subbed no dub available if that is a deal breaker for you. When it was over I was sad, it was one of those shows that feels like its a part of you and just want to keep watching forever.

Take a look at Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It is one of my favourite series ever.

Other than that, Evangelion and Gurren Lagann are must-sees. They're in pretty much every thread like this.

I'd also recommend Elfen Lied, FLCL and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, if you're interested.

Good grief... Chibi Vampire?! *hrk* Read a bit of the manga, seemed ridiculous...

Anyway, unfortunately, Sacman has beaten me to most of what I wanted to say, so...

Le Chevalier D'Eon (historically based fantasy, gender-bender)
Gankutsuou (le Comte de Monte Cristo... IN SPACE!! ... sort of)
Nurarihyon no Mago (+ sequel Sennen no Makyo, about all manner of Japanese folktale demons/spirits etc. in modern day Japan, pretty good setpieces and quite amusing)
Darker than BLACK (surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, a different take on superpowers)
Seirei no Moribito (can't really describe it... pure fantasy though if rather muted and understated, though it has some awesome and - unlike with the vast majority of animes out there - plausible fight scenes... which is weird, considering its fantasy setting)

s'bout it for now...

How have you not watched Gurren Lagaan yet? It seems right up your alley. Go watch it. Now. It's on Funimation and Hulu.

I've stopped watching anime, but Baccano! was a very enjoyable series. Also watch it dubbed. I generally prefer dubbed, but this is THE best dubbed work I've ever heard.

Also while this isn't anime, I strongly suggest watching Breaking Bad

Try watching Needless. It's full of action and ridiculousness. Although the ending sequence is incredibly fanservice-y for some reason...

Next time you should alphabetize your list if you're really gonna make one so long.

Action
Baccano
Future Diary (new, but you can find it streamed weekly on Funimation's website)
Guilty Crown (same as above)
Gurren Laggann (I think I spelled that wrong)

Comedy
Baka and Test
We Without Wings (wasn't well received from what I've seen, but I loved it)

Other
Rainbow (It is very sad yet still quite inspiring in a strange way, though I didn't watch all of it)

I'd recommend Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai. It's actually a pretty touching, pretty funny, pretty excellent tale about siblings and their relationships. I, having a younger sister myself, found it weirdly nostalgic for when I was younger.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It's not a very smart anime, but it's got a heart, and it's good healthy fun.

I'll refrain from posting a list, so I'll just go with my current fave: Steins;Gate
It takes a few episodes to get into, but its the best anime I've seen in recent years.

I'd also recommend Bakemonogatari or anything else from studio SHAFT, preferably by director Akiyuki Shinbo.

Have fun watching :D

I'd say watch the Paul Dini Batman Cartoons. Anime means animation anyways, so it still counts. Plus, it would be a nice change from these goddamn recommendation threads.

It's also on netflix, the netflix synopsis didn't interest me at all, but a quick wiki search and it looks really good. Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

yeah, it was rediculous, like I said i tolerated it, it was one of those: so rediculous it's amusing type deals.
Only one of those I've heard of is darker than black, and I'm not looking for something that dark right now, it's on my later list. I'll watch it when I have the time to just watch, as opposed to what I'm doing now, which is doing homework and studying for finals at the same time. Also, seirei no moribito looks really great, I'll give that a shot.

Have you tried Yu Yu Hakusho? It is a little old, but it does have one of the best english dubs I have ever seen. I even prefer the dub to the original.

I've got an option that no-one's suggested yet: Try Outlaw Star:

It's heavy on the sci-fi, but has magical elements to it. For example, the main character has something called a "Caster Gun", which fires bullets of magic. And the bad guys are space pirates, who use Tao Magic.

Plus, it has spaceship battles, where the spaceships have giant robot arms, and fight with machine guns and swords. It's got alot of action in it. What's NOT to like?

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, series and movies (although episodes 3-5 are kinda low point filler-y).

Darker than Black.

Go nuts!

EDIT: Try Fate Stay/Night too, it's pretty good. Also Fate Zero is airing now, which should be glorious.
