There is a HUGE mod in the works that's basically going to reskin the Morrowind Game using Skyrim's game engine. It even got game media's attention, and Bethesda seems to not really care about it. (I would say they are silently supporting it.) I would wait for that to come out.
Wasn't there a similar mod for Oblivion that was never quite finished? I'm not saying that this one won't get finished either, but I'm not getting my hopes up. That being said, I am very much looking forward to Enderal.

Anyway,

Also is there a mod which doesn't drain stamina when you run? Because that was what killed the game for me. I hated walking around Morrowind at such a slow pace.
I use a mod called "Tireless Running," which is right what it says on the tin. You can download it from File Planet
here.

Beyond that, I'd recommend to keep on trucking with the Overhaul, and anything else that catches your fancy. If you've run into a problem with it, try:
1) Back up your saves. Unlike future Elder Scrolls games (which keep save files in My Documents/My Games)[footnote]Why does the Escapist eat my backslashes? Did a backslash kill the Escapist's father or something? Now I have to use a forward slash to indicate a Windows directory.[/footnote], Morrowind keeps your saves in the installation directory, in a folder called "Saves". I'm pretty sure the uninstaller gives you the option to not delete your saves, but Step 3 will likely render that moot.
2) Uninstall Morrowind.
3) If there's still a folder where the Morrowind install directory was, delete it to purge any remaining traces of the Overhaul.
4) Reinstall Morrowind.
5) Reinstall the Overhaul.
6) Backup your Morrowind directory, so if something breaks again, you hopefully won't have to do all this again.
7) Go nuts with whatever mods your heart desires.

Time comsuming? Yes. Worth it? I'd say, also yes. The Overhaul does many wonderful things to Morrowind, and it would frankly take a lot longer to gather a bunch of mods to replace it yourself.
The nice thing is, if you're using the latest version of the Overhaul, you don't have to back it up manually anymore. It does it for you. Although that only helps if your initial installation is on a clean install...

For Great Houses, I love Rethan Expansion and Building Up Uvirith's Grave for stronghold mods. There's also some greetings mod for more appropriate ones (Telvanni will address you as Archmagister et cetera) and of course Tamriel Rebuilt, adding the entire continent slowly.

These mods seem to take years to come out. I'd rather just get playing the game now. Plus some of the older game mechanics in Morrowind intrigue me.
That's true. However it seems to be a reskin more than a complete change in game mechanics. However someone else replied to me and stated that those kinds of mods tend to fall unfinished.
Which is a shame really.
I don't think that will happen though. Seeing as how a group of mods successfully remade Morrowind using the Oblivion engine, and now all they do is fix up bugs.

Well I'd rather not wait a couple of years to play Morrowind whilst this mod gets finished.

If your in to roleplaying, I recommend Morrowind Comes Alive. It just generates random NPCs in towns and inns. It's not a game changer but it does make the world seem more alive, which probably explains the title. I don't know any combat mods unfortunately, but Tamriel Rebuilt is pretty cool, and Overhaul is great if you can get it to work.

I haven't played it recently, but I've been following the project and Morroblivion is nearing completion.

All content is complete and the quests from the base game are complete, Bloodmoon quests are under construction and they have started work on Tribunal quests. Apparently NPC AI and merchants still need some work and there is some cosmetic stuff to be done, but otherwise the main game is playable .

It's a bit of a pain finding all the stuff you need to install to play it, but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be and there is a forum and extremely helpful howto now.

Do a search for "Morroblivion: The Resurrection of Morrowind". I won't post a link as some sites don't allow posting links to the project as their legal status is dubious at best and a previous incarnation of the project was shut down by Bethesda, even though you can't install it without Morrowind being installed.

They are now working on Skywind and Skyblivion as well (the Morrowind to Skyrim and Oblivion to Skyrim conversions) which is bound to distract them from the completing Morroblivion, unfortunately.

Well if Morroblivion is only "nearing" completion, 7 years after the release of Oblivion, you'll just have to forgive me for not waiting til 2018 to play Skywind.

I was thinking of making a similar thread, I was considering going with the Overhaul mod but I'm worried my laptop won't be able to handle it if it requires too much power to run the game with a crap load of mods at once. Does it increase the system requirements a lot?

Pretty much my only complaint from playing it on the Xbox was that it didn't look that great and it was a pain to keep track of quests.

I was thinking you could play Morroblivion in the mean time. By the way, Dragonbums is incorrect, Morroblivion uses Oblivion mechanics and Skywind will use Skyrim mechanics not Morrowind mechanics.

EDIT spleng

Guys I just installed the overhaul - no other mods.

I can't exit the ship at the start of the game. Game just crashes. Any help or thoughts for me?

Hmm, that sounds like an issue with Morrowind Graphics Extender. Overhaul uses the MGE XE version doesn't it? Try running the Morrowind launcher and disabling pixel shading there. Then rerun MGEgui or MGEXEgui and make sure your pixel shading is enabled there and change any other settings you think need changing. I think Overhaul creates a Start Menu entry for MGEXEgui, but if it doesn't you will find it in your Morrowind directory.

Pixel shading is off in the launcher but I can't find any settings for pixel shading in the MGEgui at all and I dont wan't to go messing around with stuff and breaking it more.

If you are afraid of breaking stuff, it might be best to rerun the Morrowind Overhaul installer. It should set things to relatively sane settings.

Uninstalled the Overhaul and now Morrowind just doesn't work entirely. The folder is pretty much unrecognisable from what it's supposed to look like, obviously the "back up" doesn't seem to work properly. Time for another re-install which will probably be my last one if it doesn't work.
