So, I'm in a bit of an anime slump, I just recently finished a few and am watching a couple others, but I could really use a lot more. So of course I'm counting on you guys to give me your awesome suggestions.
Clannad/Clannad after story (my favorite anime ever)
Angel Beats!
Bokurano (another favorite)
Lucky Star
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Toradora!
Evangelion
Death Note (which I absolutely despise)
Rurouni Kenshin
Inuyasha
Yu Yu Hakusho
Working!!
Soul Eater
Dragonball
Gundam Wing
Ookami-san To Shichinin No Nakama-tachi
Bleach (which I've put on a bit of a hold)
Amagami SS (An episode of which was supposed to come out today >:| )
Asobi Ni Iku yo!
Kaichou wa Maid-sama (even though it's shoujo I'm loving it)
I might have forgot some, which I'll add on when I remember.

A few things to keep in mind would be:
1. I'm very much into more emotional anime.
2. I'm not very into "dark" anime.
3. I'm really not into fanservice (with a few exceptions)
4. I enjoy an anime with a love story.

So, let the anime recommending commence.

EDIT: I said Clannad was my favorite anime and no one has recommended Air or Kanon yet? What is going on here?

I don't think I'd be willing to drop Bleach all together, since I'm on episode 260-something and if I've followed it this far I'm not suddenly gonna stop. But I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

1. Welcome to the N.H.K - Gets serious at times but It's one of my favs
2. Bamboo Blade - Great comedy, mainly about Kendo.
3. Familiar of Zero - Has some Fan service but I found all three seasons to be Fun and intersting.

I could go on all night but i'll stop with those three for now =p

Edit: Ah! My goddess! or Ai Yori Aioshi is a must if you're looking for love stories as well, they're both great.

If you liked Lucky Star watch Azumanga Daioh. Make sure to watch in Japanese because the English voice acting sucks.

code geass, full metal panic, eureka 7.

edit:Eureka 7 IS a love story, and full metal panic has allot of love stuff, through not centered around it. Code geass has some love stuff.
1. I've already watched Soul Eater (as seen above)
2. No! I will not watch Code Geass! From what I hear it's awfully similar to Death Note, which (as I said above) I absolutely hate.

Ok so I noticed you don't have Cowboy Bebop on your list. It is quite possible to watch Bebop and swear off of all animes because you know nothing will ever compare, but it really is the best so yeah... watch it.
I would, except I've already accidentally clicked on enough spoilers of it to know the entire story without even seeing one episode of it.

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. It's a psychological thriller with some pretty bloody parts. If you can stomach it, I recommend it. But stay away from Umineko. I hear the anime adaption sucks a big one.

If you can look past two and three I'd recommend School Days.
Although four might not go with it all too much...

For a funny/light-hearted kind of anime I'd go with K-ON!

Cromartie High School its fucking helarious and each episode is only about ten minutes long.

It's the English dub but I think it's just as good.

Nanaka 6/17 was great. I really enjoyed watching this one even in English Dub.

Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-Chan - I can't remember if this had fanservice or not but it was definately worth the watch to me, i think it was a short season.

HOLY SHIT

FREDDIE FUCKIN MERCURY IS IN THIS ANIME

I LOVE YOU
It's honestly one of the funniest anime I have ever seen just by how ridiculous it is.

There is only two animes I've ever really liked;
Code Geass, alltho it helps beeing a cynical bastard who like bittersweet/downer endings.
yes I saw it mentioned above, and that you didn't want to see it. I haven't seen Death Note so I dont know how they compare. I'd still give it a shot if I were you.

the other is
Tengen toppa gurren lagann, wich absolutely didn't take itself too seriously, a fact i loved.

Other than that I can really recomend the Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita manga there is a 3 episode OVA of it IIRC but it doesn't even begin to compare.

Definitely watch Fullmetal Alchemist and Azumanga Daioh. Both great shows. Although I will admit for the former, the manga was better.

After actually reading this properly I'd say Mai-HiME.
It fits in on all of the above points, and is free from the cynical/dark themes I usually enjoy.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Strikers was good enough for me as a pass-time during the summer.
Apparently it's the third part of a trilogy of series but it seemed self-contained enough to me.

I've been awake for 30 hours or so straight, so sorry for not properly reading your post.

1. Serial Experiments Lain, It's The Second coming of Jesus, I even did a review!!! [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.214642-Sacmans-Sac-tastic-Anime-Review-Serial-Experiments-Lain]

2. Ergo Proxy, A lot of people say Ergo Proxy is an anime you have to think about but on reflection it feels more like a parody or satire of over pretentious anime like Eva. The last episode is even titled "Deus Ex Machina."

3. Elfen Lied, What this show does is hard to explain. It's gory and bloody and filled with tasteless nudity but I loved it. Elfen Lied just got me so attachedto the characters that come the end I cried...

4. Welcome To The NHK. It's hard to explain... I mean it's really the only slice of life I've ever loved this much but I'm just not exactly sure why. It could be the pitch black humor, the realistic characters, the social satire, or even the brilliant writing. Honestly, however, I think it's more the fact that Sato's, The main character's, situation hit's very close to home for me...

5. FLCL. I hate to sound like everyone else but FLCL is 6 episodes of awesome craziness!!!

6. Blue Sub No. 6. I used to watch this as a kid on Toonami and I really didn't get it but going back to watch all 4 episodes now I can safely say it's one of the most polished OVA series I've ever see, with an amazing soundtrack, great action, great animation, a standout art style, and one of the most coherent messages about human nature I've seen in anime.

7.Gundam The 08TH MS Team. It really stands out for me because it's one of the few Gundam series that give a general sense of fear because the action is unpredictable and the characters really endear themselves to the audiance...

8. Paranoia Agent. It's a truly great murder mystery that keeps you guessing at every turn but look past that and you'll find a very intriguing deconstruction of the human mind...

9.Gungrave. Possibly one of the most underrated shows I've seen. Gungrave is a truly great story about friendship, love and betrayal without ever falling into cheesiness the great animation, spectacular fight scenes and well thought out character development doesn't hurt either.

10.Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. Despite having no real plot, since I consider Kai and Rei to be non canon, Higurashi is one of the most atmospheric and frightening shows I've ever seen. It constantly keeps you guessing and always gives a feeling of paranoia and dread...
