Always get the Humble Indie bundles, you'll be filled with little timewaster games faster than you can imagine. And sometimes a gem will be buried in there that'll stick with you for a while.

Otherwise everyone has already listed most of the greats.

Get an XBox Wired controller as well. It'll double the amount of games and game ports you can make use of.

Games like Sonic Generations and Darksiders and Dark Souls are in need of it.

Oh and Braid is on sale as of a half hour ago, if you like platformers give it a whirl.

Freespace 2. Oh yes.

I think you can still buy into Star Citizen directly through RSI. You can't play it now but every cent helps. Also, have you got mincraft yet? You soul because minecraft is fun, and fun is good. Check out GOG and do load the Desura client. You probably should get To The Moon as well, through I understand it isn't to everyone's taste.

"Recommend me"

Grammar police! Come out with you're hands up!

Your/You're, I know. But did you want me to recommend you to some PC games or recommend some PC games to you? Whatever you do, don't get Command & Conquer 4. I would recommend Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale is pretty fun, going into dungeons to get stuff to sell in your shop.

Oh! I saw Loren the Amazon Princess listen up above and I totally second it! Killer game even if VNs usually get a bad rap.

Also I would like to add to my original comments: The Witcher, Civilization 3 or 5, Wanderlust: Rebirth, and Resonance.

Might I suggest some quiet puzzle games with great art direction?

Samorost 2 and Machinarium.

Amanita Design, the developer of both, deserves more paying customers. Here's a site they did for the band The Polyphonic Spree [http://amanita-design.net/thequestfortherest/] just to get a feel for their style.

If they're on Xbox, they'll be better on your computer. If its a Shooter, Keyboard+Mouse > Controller, and pretty much everything else (with the exception of Dark Souls) will have better graphics on the PC, and most games that have Console versions support 360 controllers on your PC.

Every answer is wrong.

Go to GOG.com and buy Planescape: Torment.

That game is why PC gaming is, and always will be, better than console.

Another traitor in our ranks. You just traded the fun and companionship of consoles for more 'gigabyticals' and fancier 'resolumutations'.
Enjoy your crisp clear image, and slightly better FPS rate. You have lost far more than that. We shall try to remember you as you were, not as what you have become.

On a side note, I'd check out some of the indie games if you have never really played PC at all.
FTL for one.

I can think of a ton of recommendations, but rather than throw a boatload of options at you, I'll just give ya one.

System Shock 2. It's $10 on GOG. I know you want to break in your new system and watch your video card run laps, but you seriously need to check this thing out.

Planescape tourment (best RPG storywise of all time)
Anachronox (unique for its time fun too)
Mass effect 1&2 too(pun not intended) because of greater feeling of accomplishment of what you get in the third(for some unaccomplishment) for(again sorry) importing save games
Silent hill 2(not only PC exclusive)
World of GOO!!!(best game in its genre)
Bastion (better than torchlight)
Batman Arkham(city - asylum)
Sins of solar empire
Heavy Metal F.A.K.K 2
Final Fantasy 8

Yeah, just fire off an entire list of really old games. I'd be so happy playing Doom2 on my brand new pc.
