So, with the PSP2 recently revealed, I figured it would be a good time to pick up a PSP on the cheap. I got a good deal on eBay for one, and I'd like some suggestions on some games for it. Here's what I've got so far:

Definitely getting

Final Fantasy: Dissidia - This actually comes with the PSP I bought. Lucky for me, I already wanted it. I like Final Fantasy, I like crossover games, and I like fighting games, so I've always wanted to try this out.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep - This is one of the main reasons I decided to get a PSP. I love the Kingdom Hearts franchise, and this looks like a good one.

Persona 3 Portable - Persona 4 is one of my favorite RPGs ever, so I've always wanted to play P3. And with this being an upgraded remake, I see no reason for me to keep on putting off playing it (well, that, and my backwards compatable PS3 caught a case of the gremlins after I beat P4).

Thinking about getting

30 Second Hero - I've seen some trailers for this, and it looks like an interesting concept for a game. Unless it really blows, I see no reason NOT to pick it up.

Prinny 2: Operation Panties Dood - I've never played a Disagea game, and I didn't play the first Prinny game, but I saw a trailer for this, and burst out laughing. And the gameplay itself looks fun, too.

So, other than those games, can you guys recommend some other good PSP titles? For the record, I don't really want to get God of War, Assassin's Creed, or Metal Gear games, so please don't recommend them.

Other than that, I like pretty much any kind of game (short of sports games), although I did decide to pick this up due to the massive number of JRPGs on the system.

FINALLY! Someone I can recommend PSP JRPGs to!

Knights in The Nightmare
Yggdra Union
Riviera: The Promised Land

3 exceptional JRPGs from Atlus and Sting. All very unique, too. Especially Knights in the Nightmare.

Disgaea 1 and 2 for PSP are amazing ports that are superior to the originals.

Also, Star Ocean: Second Evolution and First Departure are great in their own right.

And Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, too. Tactics Ogre came out recently, too.

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony is arguably the best version of Lunar to date, btw. So, if you ever liked Lunar before, pick it up.

Download Grandia, Wild ARMs, Wild ARMs2, FF7, FF8, and FF9 off of the PSN marketplace, too. Xenogears just arrived last week. And Vagrant Story is due out tomorrow.

Lunar and Half Minute Hero have demos, so look into those.

I just ninja'd a bunch of people.

I've only held a PSP for fifteen minutes.

I played a memory game where each corner would flash in a certain order and add one more flash after you had entered them back in the right order. I got 63 at the first try and I loved it.

So that game. Can't even remember it's name though...

I'll just move along. And you've already got a bunch of titles there lined up anyways.

Tactics Ogre: let us cling together just came out and is apparently amazing. Also 30 Second Hero has a demo on PSN if you're undecided. I know you said you're no interested in MGS but Peace Walker balances the stealth action with a brilliant micro management sim that is definitely worth it.

Probably Crisis Core: Final Fantasy. Haven't played it but I think it's not turn-based.
Absolutely amazing game, get it, you'll adore it even without playing FFVII. Speaking of which, download that too.

Okay then, you've officially given me MORE than enough JRPGs to look into. Thanks for that.

Lets see if we can't get some recommendations in some other genres.

Patapon series is definitely something to keep an eye on, might not be your thing, but if it is, they're fantastic games.

That's easy.

For shooters, Syphon Filter has amazing PSP games. Think MGS, without all the plot and cutscenes. And a taser than lights people on fire.

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matter is action platformer goodness, too. As is Daxter. Better gameplay to R&C, better writing and variety to Daxter.

And for racing games, download/buy Midnight Club 3 or Midnight Club: LA. 3 has more content, but LA is overall the better game.

How the hell did I forget about these?

I still need to buy Patapon 2, myself. I got my PSP in December.

Oh come on! No one has mentioned God of War Chains of Olympus/Ghost of Sparta. It's pretty much what made the console worth existing. You may say that you don't want any reccomendations for them, but I still will cuz I really liked them.

He said he doesn't want God of War games.

And JRPGs are what made it keep going. :)

It's got the best library for the genre since the PS2.

Hmmm, don't think I can be much help. I won my PSP several years ago in a poker tournament, but I only ever purchased one game. Ape Escape. I thought it was fun. As you go through the game you will unlock the ability to get the mini games. My personal favorite was the boxing, nothing like having my selected ape beat the crap out of the other apes.

But lately I was surfing Amazon and saw a few games I'm thinking of getting when I actually have a job.

Final Fantasy 1
Final Fantasy 2
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles

All of that together comes out around 35 dollars total, and I believe it is eligible for free shipping.

I was thinking about that as well, it's just under 10 bucks on Amazon.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Now that its a "PSP Essential", its a lot cheaper. Alternatively, wait until later in the year and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. I also back the Crisis Core suggestions, one of my favorite games.

I've never understood Monster Hunter's appeal. And I'm it's target audience!

Like I said, I'm seriously considering getting Prinny 2.

Or should I start with Prinny 1? Do I NEED to play 1 before two, or does it not matter?

If you want a racing game, FlatOut: Head on is a really FUN racing game. The side games are hilarious.

Can't go wrong with any of the Lego games too, they're really funny.

As far as RPGs: FF tactics obviously, but I enjoyed Brave Story, very old school RPG.
