Wow, I figured this was already on page eight, so I'd pick a couple of the more obscure of my favorite albums and then check through the thread to see of either of them hadn't been mentioned. Somehow neither of them have, so you get two recommendations from me:

Nattfödd, by Finntroll
and
Secret of the Runes, by Therion

Strung Out - Teenage Suburban Wasteland

simply brilliant
A+

Band: A Wilhelm Scream
Album: Mute Print
wow you might be one of the first people I know who've actually heard of Strung Out. They're awesome, yet no one knows who they are
Strung Out and A Wilhelm Scream got a mention :O Great bands.

People already said Aenima, Lateralus and 10,000 Days which made me sad. So I would probably go with some Porcupine Tree, namely In Absentia. Each song is a joy to listen to, and ends brilliantly.

My other contribution to this would probably be Breakthroughs in Modern Art by Six Gallery. It's just something I love and seems fairly unknown. If anyone else on The Escapist recognises this you are instantly my friend.

Tunnel of Love by Bruce Springsteen. It has a sound unlike anything he's had on any other album of his, it's like a new artist. (Not that there was anything wrong with the old artist.) And in Uncut Magazine's Springsteen Special's rating of the album, they said there wasn't a single bad song on it. Well, duh!

Muse's, in my opinion best album, Absolution.

Nirvana - Nevermind

And of course, Them Crooked Vultures first and at the moment only album which is named after them. They have a second album soon though :D.

High on Fire: Death is This Communion

This is my favorite album by my favorite band, and with good reason. It has the heavy riffs and plodding rhythmic section of their previous work, but with slightly clearer and more even production as well as a significant increase in the overall speed of the music.

River City Rebels-Hate To Be Loved

If you dig glam rock (NY Dolls, T-Rex, etc) at all, find a copy of this album RIGHT NOW. They wear their influences on their sleeve, and it helps that the album was produced by Sylvain Sylvain! It's funny actually, these guys started out as a fairly by the numbers punk band, and then promptly lost most of their fans after putting out this album, cuz it wasn't punk enough or some shit. It's funny because the only reason why the NY Dolls weren't considered punk was because they predated the movement by a few years (and actually inspired a lot of it's sound). They further alienated their fans by putting out a folk album next, Keepsake of Luck (which was also really good). And also they had sex with all of their fans girlfriends, which I'm sure didn't help matters.
Okay, I'm totally looking this up because of my recommendation:

The New York Dolls - One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This (2006, Roadrunner Records)

The Dolls were glam-punk pioneers back in the seventies, and even though most of the original band is gone (the only remaining original members are David Johansen on vocals and Sylvain Sylvain on rhythm guitar and backup vocals), the music remains. Johansen has recruited new blood in the form of Steve Conte on lead guitar (Conte has worked with Yoko Kanno on a lot of anime soundtracks, and also leads his own band Steve Conte and the Crazy Truth) and Sami Yaffa on bass (Yaffa is best known for his work with Hanoi Rocks), incorporating blues, rock, and a little jazz. There are also several well-known guest artists (Michael Stipe, Bo Diddley, and Iggy Pop) on this, the Dolls' first new album in nearly 30 years.

Standout tracks: 'Take A Good Look At My Good Looks', 'Maimed Happiness', 'Dancing On The Lip Of A Volcano'.
Great album! It's amazing to hear a band continues to make ballsy rocknroll after that many years (well not quite the same band but you know what I mean). Have you checked out the album they put out after this? Also very good. I believe the Rebels were doing a lot of opening for them when they reunited.

Opeth's Damnation

I see your Damnation and raise you one Ghost Reveries

Honestly I think that Ghost Reveries was their worst album. It had some amazing guitar work in it, just it just seemed hollow and forced without much emotion. I blame Roadrunner for it, as this has happened with a lot of bands I like that end up going to roadrunner.

Elect the Dead by Serj Tankian.

Has a great variety of sounds for just one album and you should listen to it. Immediately.

Still Shihad's best album to date in my opinion, although it's hard to judge since they seem to change their genre every album. TGE is hard rock and electronic rock. Best tracks would be My Mind's Sedate, The General Electric, Pacifier, Wait and See and, still my personal favourite Shihad track, The Metal Song.

Awesome thing - they're playing the full album live in August. Got my ticket already. :p

Any Lordi album is a blast. They aren't the best band ever, but their a solid fun hard rock/metal band.
