[REC] spanish horror film.

Zombies. Jumps. Cloverfield-like filming.

Yeah, it's fucking brilliant!

Might I recommend Shimotsuma Monogatari

Better known in the states as Kamikaze Girls.

(I'm actually fond of the book version more but the movie is charming and funny.)

It's the story of 2 unlikely friends becoming close through a rather strange series of events and focuses in on a lot of Japanese subculture as well as how big a role fashion plays in subcultures.

It's quirky and I think rather charming and hilarious.

Man Bites Dog. Filmed COPS style as you follow a Belgian hitman. Very tongue in cheek/black humor with some nods to previous films like Spinal Tap.

pretty good? "the only" one, really? I wonder what you've seen?
Well it's the only foreign film (unless you count anime movies with english subtitles) that I've seen but it's interesting and had good reviews.

Les Triplettes Des Belleville - really quirky French animated movie about cyclists, the mafia, and 3 old ladies. I think. It's strange.

Brotherhood of the Wolf - one of my all time favorite films, period. Two men are hired to hunt what is basically a demonic werewolf.

Oldboy - This is one of the best movies I have ever seen and you must never watch it. Jesus. Fuck. I need to lie down just thinking about it.

Anything by Akira Kurosawa- Pick one, they're all good.

The City of Lost Children - this is probably my favorite film, foreign or American. It's hard to describe the plot, but it's just fantastic. The story is fun and compelling, the visuals are phenomenal, everything is just great.

Mongol - The story of Genghis Khan. This is going to be the most epic trilogy ever made in any language.

Downfall - one of the best movies about World War 2 ever made, ostensibly about Hitler's last days.

The Devil's Backbone - by the director of Pan's Labyrinth, so if you liked that you should definitely check this one out

Joyeaux Noel - It's a World War 1 Christmas movie. Trust me, it works. I watch it every year.

Casshern - you know what, let the video do the talking:

Kung Fu Hustle - Seriously some of the most fun you'll ever have in a Kung Fu movie.

Well, these are pretty known already, but basically almost any of Hayao Miyazaki's films.

Especially "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke".

Great Japanese anime-films.

The Vengeance Trilogy by Park Chan Wook. Korean films and absolutely stunning, if a little strange by western standards.

Let the Right One in by Thomas Alfredson. Swedish, and one of my favourite films ever, never mind solely foreign films.

See them. Now!

EDIT: Also, [REC], a spanish POV horror film remade in the US as 'Quarantine'. Far better than 'Quarantine' and extremely intense towards the end.
This ^^^

As each sentence flew by I wished, " Please leave one of my favorite Foreign films for me to recommend..." with no avail.

Posters below. If you haven't seen these films, you have been doing a massive disservice to yourself.

So it's not the only one you can think of but the only one you can say anything about, big difference.

'Antibodies' - the only good feature length movie to come from Germany in like the last twenty years.
Yeah, no, sure, it's way better than the Baader Meinhof Complex, or Downfall, or Nowhere in Africa, or the Lives of Others, or Run Lola Run, or the Experiment, or Deathmaker, or Beyond Silence, or Head-On, or even Anatomy. Mhm.
For the first half of the movies you name, I can indeed confirm the above statement - for the other half, would you be so kind as to offer their original titles?
I'm sorry, I thought being from the States, you'd have an easier time with the international titles, also considering you yourself used one; here goes: der Baader-Meinhof-Komplex, der Untergang, Nirgendwo in Afrika, das Leben der Anderen, Lola rennt, das Experiment, der Totmacher, Jenseits der Stille, Gegen die Wand, Anatomie. Oh and I forgot the Wave / die Welle and die Wolke (no international release, I think).

I guess you're only trying to state your opinion, but to say it's the only good one is a bit condescending, especially considering that most of the movies I named fared way better with critics, received awards at Cannes or the Oscars and so on.

EDIT: And Perfume, but they shot it in English although it's a German production based on a German novel, so I guess that doesn't really count as foreign, but it does come from Germany...

Or, to be more accurate, every film that Sergio Leone ever made. (Yeah, all seven of them.)
Lol, my post is right above yours and it says the EXACT same thing. Once Upon a Time in the West blows my mind. Ennio Morricone is GOD, and his scores make these already awesome movies into masterpieces.
EXACTLY. By the way, have you seen Once Upon a Time in America? That one is my favorite of the bunch.

Chapeau! These movies are a must see. I have let out some of the names mr. @Aredor mentioned, not because I think they are not commendable, but because I have not seen them myself. Which I will now try to correct. Thanks for the tip!

As for other movies, one of the must brutal, horrifying, dirty and shocking movies ever made:

Press the cover for the IMDB-link.

Irreversible
[http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290673/]
One of the most shocking rape scenes ever (done by Monica Bellucci) in the history of cinema. The movie has a non-lineair narrative that would possibly confuse even Tarantino and Allen. It's also a brutal, unforgiving movie.

I've watched this in combination with Natural Born Killers, and believe me. I sincerely wanted to trash, smash and utterly destroy something. Not for the faint of hearted.

I've never seen it, any good?
It's on my top ten. You need to see it ASAP (let me know of your opinion once you have).

Cheers!
I'll keep an eye out for it so, I've been looking for something to watch.

Do you mean Laputa: Castle in the sky?
The Studio Ghibli movie?

If so I agree, it's a wonderful movie - one of the best Ghibli films.

Sadly, no. It's the only Sergio Leone movie I haven't seen and it eats me inside everyday. I got to admit though, the sheer number of versions for that movie is mind-boggling. American version, Eurpean version, Director's Cut, the Full Version, etc.

Which one do you recommend? I ask because I'd prefer to see the whole thing in its entirety, but the Original Cut is 5 HOURS LONG. =0

Well, there are really only two versions. The American version is TERRIBLE, as it cuts about an hour and a half, making it 140 minutes. It's almost impossible to find, anyway. The original version, is much better, and much longer, at 239 minutes. It's the only version you find in stores anyway. The European version has almost no differences at all, and the Directors Cut IS the original. So, yeah. Watch it.
