A gamer who wants more gamers to play with? Can't have that on a gaming forum!

That is, unless your group is going to put the word 'Escapist' in its name somewhere, then its perfectly 100% acceptable!

*rolleyes*
In that case he can ask if anyone wants to play with him. We don't tolerate advertising and it's his own stupid fault if he didn't check up first.

*Pokes eyes*
Yes, but there is no rational reason to deny this. They aren't advertising for a product or anything, they are more or less asking people to come have fun with them. How exactly is that really "advertising"? It more akin to an open invitation.

*spoon in lung*
Apart from the fact that this forum is for us to discuss games and related topics, not for people to stick adverts into our screaming faces. It doesn't matter whether it's a product or not, we still don't want it taking up a slot on the front page all the same.

"Advertise - call attention to"
It is advertising.

*Nose slammed in book*
Isn't ANY thread calling attention to SOMETHING?

*foot in crotch*
I defined advertise because you said it wasn't advertising, however he is calling attention to his crappy clan thing, so he is advertising. And no, not every thread is calling attention to something. Most are calling for discussion, this is explicitly drawing focus to one particular thing.

Look, advertising of any sort is frowned upon but because of the nature of the ad. you should get a probation and thats it.
Sorry but it is the rules.

P.S. Welcome to the Escapist.

Again, calling attention to SOMETHING. Something can be calling attention to the need for a discussion, etc etc. It is still technically a type of advertising, by your definition.

*fire ants in eyes*
u dont get what the big deal is hes just seeing if anyone wants to have fun with him and his group.

That was one definition of the word, intended to show you that he was in fact advertising. You're trying to bend the meanings of words to suit your argument, which has now grossly changed from your original argument anyway. Face it, man, he was advertising, it was wrong, and you are also wrong no matter how deeply you want to try and go into weak technicalities.

I still think its hypocritical how someone can be like "THEE OFFISHUL ESKAPEST TURNUMANT LEEG GROOP PLAYCE" and advertise their gaming group legitimately. He's not selling a product, or taking advantage of anyone. The thread title says recruiting so you know its for a clan or league or group before you even enter. I don't care whether this is ok to do or not, I just think its hypocritical of our community a tad to be so rude to this thread, whereas if it had 'Escapist' in its name it would be more than welcome.

Even if this is against the rules just say that and report, no need to put people down or be an asshat about it.
