With Fallout 3 and Fable 2 getting all the glory and praise... I thought everybody ignored a great RTS (since I grew up on the series with C&C 95')

To get the topic rolling:
What were your thoughts on Red Alert 3 (negative and positive), and what is your favorite faction?

westwood no longer exists therefore no new command and conquer games can be made, games can use their name, yes, but there are no new command and conquer games and likely never will be.

I dont like how cartoony the red alert games have become. Before, they were on the verge of being believable and realistic, now its just silly.

(and i wanted the Tanya from Red Alert 2 back, not this blonde airhead.)

Lost all its value when EA took over and forced Tiberium sun to be released before completion.

Still, im going to end up buying the game if they release it on the console, C&C is one of few good, well executed console RTS.

i also remember the many weeks i wasted away playing through the soviet campaign of red alert 2 again and again, laughing as the allies "Superior" and "Imaginative" technology was destroyed by simple brute force and a good ol' nuke.

now EA have even removed the soviet's signature super weapon.

looking at the website, i may still buy it just to see how perverted the C&C universe has become. (And the fact the soviet hero is a hot sniper chick wearing leather hot pants. EA got one thing right.)

So apparently the Escapist community didn't see Red Alert 3 in a good light.
Personally, the sheer fact that C&C's creative and gameplay direction had changed, as EA came in, was one of the greatest reasons I've enjoyed the latest installments in the series.

Had Westwood (a GREAT studio) not been brought, the series would've run downhill due to limited resources and a lack of new approach.

Sure, there's hot women and a big EA slapped on the box. Yet somewhere, deep inside it's case, there's an apocalypse tank really to crush Ally armored weaklings.

Roger that comrade! FOR THE UNION!!

anyway, i agree that with EA's backing C & C can afford to experiment a little, bringing their games onto consoles with identical content to the PC's I'm grateful for that as my PC died years ago and i could only afford the replace it with an xbox 360.

I'll try it if people say it's fun (after it comes out).

Also I give it props for having the Japanese.

I always loved Red Alert. Of course it was better when the bad FMV wasn't entirely intentional, but mostly just because ALL FMV was pretty bad. But that's what always set Red Alert apart - they ran with the hammy because they knew they couldn't help it. Now everyone knows it isn't necessary, so it's not going to have the same charm. But from the FMV clips I've seen, it looks like just as much fun, even if some of the charming unknown actors have been replaced with bigger names (though the addition of George Takei instantly gives anything more nerd fun. Kudos to that casting.)

I'm more upset because I'm assuming I can't play it because my PC doesn't support Pixel Shader 3.0 Unless RA3 only needs 2.0. As soon as I can afford to get it, I should probably check.

You don't remember the cybernetic dog that could leap insane distances (including up sheer cliff faces) to tear peoples heads off? Or the machine that made units entirely impervious to enemy weapons? The portable backpacks infantryman could carry that supplied enough voltage to electrocute a light jeep? The TARDIS tank that could travel through time and space? The way that Joseph Stalin killed his own senior commander with his bare hands? Or that the same Jospeh Stalin was being influenced by Khane and the Brotherhood of NOD? The giant ants attacking England in the hidden mission? Or the overriding fact that the whole game is based around Albert Einstein going back in time to kill Hitler?

No, giant bears would just be too damn silly.

It clouded mine too. I played the entire Soviet campaign of the original game last week to try and prove they used to be realistic. It wasn't. But it was immensely fun, so I thought, "What the hell, why not roll with the madness, bring on the parachuting warbears!"

I do agree with your point about Tanya though, the old one would be good.

Not to mention that someone then goes back into time and STOPS ALBERT EINSTEIN.

Not to mention that in the process of doing this, they go back to the Jurassic and you have to machine gun Tyrannosaurs for 30 seconds until someone gets the Sonic Screwdriver reoriented.

Yes, I know it was a shot at Turok. A well-placed shot at Turok.
