Hey, I'm back!

So, looking at Metacritic's Prototype page and the Escapist's own I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews for Prototype. What I'm hearing is that it has no multiplayer, is quite short, and maybe a little bland. I personally bought Red Faction:GUERILLA, and I think the campaign is challenging and fun, if a little repetetive, and the multiplayer is great, so I may be a little biased. I wanna know which is better. What are your opinions, Escapists?

EDIT: Modified the title; I'm talking about Red Faction: Guerilla, for the Xbox 360.

Prototype has been getting compared to Infamous a lot in these parts, about time someone gave Red Faction a mention.

Personally I love Red Faction, it's my game of the year so far and I chose it over Prototype due to the insane levels of fun to had smashing things :)

Having played nether, I'd rather hear my friends talk about [Prototype] than Red Faction. From what I've heard, Prototype is amazingly fun, I've heard the same from my friends who own Red Faction. I've also heard that the physics in Red Faction are... special. I generally don't like sandbox games, but I think Prototype looks fun, while Red Faction looks like a sandbox game were you can destroy stuff. I think Prototype would be more enjoyed by me.

Prototype is the best new game I've played for ages. The only game this year thing that looks like it could be as good is modern warfare 2. imo

I think Prototype is a better game than RF:G, if only because of a friends recommendation that the Red Faction repeats its self more often than Prototype, also because I was drawn in by the story of Prototype than Red Faction in my short trial of the game.

Strange I have just bought both of these in the past week. Personally I prefer prototype more but red faction is still an amazing game too.

I've played both and had way more fun and spent more time with Prototype. If you just did the story missions you could beat Red Faction in one sitting. Oh, and the novelty of smashing stuff gets boring after a bit.

Prototype in my opinion is much better, Red Faction can tire quickly, its main selling point was after all destructible environments and that can only entertain for so long.

Really? RF was fun and all but didn't it get repetitive after a while?

Red Faction just got a little tedious for me. Prototype moved too fast to get tedious! If you wanted to do a story mission, you didn't have to wait ages for a vehicle, or walk around like a loon. You could just sprint up the side of a skyscraper and freefall the rest of the way. Which is FUN.

I think both suffer from "getting old super fast syndrome", I mean gosh it's like in Prototype you're jumping and gliding to missions more than doing those damn missions. The side missions for both games aren't very interesting either, usually involving "kill lots of stuff" or "go from one area to another very quickly".

I'd say my vote goes to red faction, but I don't think either of them are worth a buy. Though, Red Faction is a much more polished game and I have a lot less criticism for it than I do with prototype so I guess that gets my vote if you must have one.

Both games have a wonderful first impression though. There's some really cool stuff in these games at times.

Repitition is not always a bad thing if it is variable. There are so many ways you can smash shit up in that game, it's like having a giant lego city to tear apart...

Comparing a Playstation 2 first person shooter to a current generation 3D action game is pretty unfair TBH.

Red Faction, by the way.
I would imagine he means the new 360 release Red Faction: Guerrilla.

Oh hell I totally forgot the multiplayer in Red Faction: Guerilla, that was a blast too and could probably throw more life in the game than Prototype.

I haven't plated red faction yet, but I'm having a blast with prototype. In what other game do you get to jump off a skyscraper into the streets below then eat about 5 people in a row, then jump about 2 stories in the air and launch yourself at a passerby using him as a skate board.

Red Faction is good. But im getting a bit bored with it. Not that much variety with side missions and the difficulty curve goes up and down like a soundwave from mission to mission. The bland environment takes its toll when you play it for an extended period of time.

The new geomod is amazing though.

Im going to borrow a copy of Prototype next weekend off my friend, he said its terrible and has pretty much chucked it in a corner after a few hours of play.. but hes not one to judge a game on since he just plays MMOs 99% of the times.

Red Factions repitition lasted longer with me than Prototypes.

Red Factions enviroments change from sector to sector (esp from the later ones) and the style you can on each mission makes it less bland, espcially when you've upgraded the like of your Remote mines, and Nano Rifle's, not to mention the use of everything as a weapon (Car Bomb's, Car Bomb road blocks, Remote mines to uplift vehicles in front of road block, Car Bomb convoy, blowing out bridges, stealth etc).

Where as well, the little i could stand of Prototype was identical in missions.

I don't think you can put them up against each other really... The reason I might buy guerilla, is for GeoMod 2.0, destroying everything. Prototybe seems more like a Spiderman kinda game.

Prototype seems nice, but my bet is that, it gets tiring after a while.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of destroying property in guerille, you can d0 it a hundreds different ways.
