Not all of Scifi's films are diabolicly bad, just nearly all of them. I think Warbirds was a Scifi film first and that was very entertaining, low buget, but entertaining.

Edit:
I predict that it's going to come under the catagory of most Scifi channel films.

In the final scene Parker will fight a giant bad CGI snake.

Syfy has the reverse midas touch, almost everything they touch turns to crap. They managed to turn the Dresden Files (seriously the most fun I've had reading books since I was a kid)into a lame episodic bore fest where a guy used a hockey stick as a magic staff.

I still can't bring myself to call the SciFi channel 'syfy'. It almost seems as if it's a Welsh word what with the over abundance of y's.

OT: A Red Faction movie could work but I don't think there's enough story to it to justify a series unless they go off on a huge tangent because, quite frankly, the selling point of the game is the ability to destroy the environment which films/tv have been doing for years funnily enough.

Edit:
Oh, and SciFi using the term back door pilot is hilarious considering the "men's interest" films that are often show last at night on the channel.

Great another cheesetastic movie by sifi "syfy" (i think the name change is stupid) only this cheesefest will be based on a videogame.
OOOOO JOY!!
The movie that spawned the Stargate series was pretty good... though it actually was in theaters.
As for their series... Farscape and Babylon 5 were great.
Though I will agree that the name change was bloody stupid.
Problem is, Stargate the movie had exactly nothing to do with 'SyFy' and the first five seasons of SG-1 were made by Showtime.

The majority of Babylon 5 was made for PETN and the last bit of it was made for TNT.

Farscape was like Stargate in that started on a different channel, Nine Network in Australia I think, and then brought over after season 1.

So, of the purely 'SyFy' creations that can be claimed we have: Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe and Battlestar Galactica.

Now I'm not saying that anything they make based on Red Faction is going to be BAD, far from it. But they don't have the far reaching pedigree that is given them sometimes and frankly most of their 'SyFy Original Movies' are lemons, so I'm hesitant more than anything else.
I think the first seaon of Battlestar Galactica was mostly funded by Sky 1 which is why the first season aired in the uk first

You do have a solid point there... I've only watched the first episode of SG1 on dvd, probably because it has nudity in it. BSG is more of a space drama than a science fiction series. They knew when to throw in some action, but season 3 was a complete failure for them. SGU throws out what made SG1 and SGA good and tries to be a space drama, except the story is weak, most of the characters are lame and the action is VERY far between.

Could it be good? Absolutely! If syfy does it right, it will be about a man forced to the wrong side of the law, fighting with rebels to liberate Mars from a corrupt government. Make up some cool supporting cast members and you can probably squeeze out six or seven seasons just liberating the planet.

Nothing wrong with welsh, it's just unpronouncable. Due to w being a vowel...

Seems cool. It's definitely a good thing for videogames, especially if it turns out to be really good. But who knows, chances are it will suck.

And on a side note, I didn't think Doom was that bad of a movie game, although it had little to do with the game itself. (and that First Person part at the end was AWESOME!)
The DOOM film was utterly hilarious, a great no-brainier that happened to have a name from gaming.
OT: Couldn't they have found a more interesting gaming world than Red Faction?

I hope it's about Mason's hammer. An epic tale of how he leaves the hammer for a shiny railgun, only to return once he realises that the hammer is his one true weapon.

And has a sub-plot about the EDF trying to hire a builder who won't rip them off and build everything out of plywood.
lolz that would be a great movie

Actually, I never got into the Red Faction "mythos", so I can't say anything about the quality of the story. I hope it's good. As for SyFy, the production value of what they produce has increased dramatically, but sometimes the plot for a story seems too generic scifi for it to succeed. Red Faction will hopefully bring a strong, unique narrative to the production.

In all fairness, that was the opinion I formed the second time I read the article. The first opinion went something like this:

Blah blah blah Red Faction.
Blah blah blah SyFy.

Is that man chasing a soldier down with an ostrich?!

Sounds interesting, but i don't hold out much hope for it considering; for one thing, the game isn't exactly renowned for its plot, and for another thing... It's a movie about a videogame.
Correction. It's a movie about a videogame...that's being made for SyFy!

*crosses fingers* please be good.........
I love the Red Faction series (minus the 2nd one)
either way (if good or bad) I think personally I will be entertained, I love SyFy's Saturday movie line up (though mainly for the "hahaha this is so bad it's good"......except for that god awful gajillion hour long Stephen King end of the worldesqe movie with the flying toothey ball thingies that eat the world or whatever....that movie I just think is so bad it's bad.....)

However if it is like the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries I will be in nerd heaven........and if a show is made after......soooo happy

If they plan to take it to series then it will get a good budget. SyFy usually takes a shit and sends it out when they don't care but look at the production values of their mini-series and actual shows (not the "reality" ones) Those usually have larger budgets and are actually given care. It's really going to be the inverse of what they did with SG1 and SGA, movie first, show second

Yeah more piles of steaming disappointment coming from Syfy. I liked Red Faction and Red Faction: Guerilla, (I ignore Red Faction 2).
"Instead of hitting the silver screen, the Red Faction movie will be coming to the small screen thanks to a deal with Syfy, the cable television channel that specializes in science fiction, fantasy and horror programming." And giagantic small screen turds.
Now is it me or has that channel seem to have been taken over by the guys that used to run Troma. Seriously, I love me a Toxic Avenger movie when I can find them, but the evidence is there. Every movie that comes out on that channel is awful. Thank for ruining it for me you bastards.

PS: I'll probably end up watching it anyway. sigh

Fair enough.
But one area in which the channel has gotten better about is that they've stopped putting up wrestling shows.

As for shows...
Eureka was fairly entertaining.

Movies...
yeah... I'll admit that Syfy's movies do tend to blow... with the exception of their recent Dune mini-series.
