On paper that is what it means, however thanks to social media sites (primarily Tumblr) a lot of people use it to mean things which can be even mildly irritating (these tend to be the same people who use the term microaggression seriously) and has unfortunately become on the same level as 'check your privilage' in terms of things worth mocking due to its overuse by people who really shouldn't be using it unironically.

I just treat them like content warnings, which have existed for decades now. Seems like an odd thing to complain about, honestly.
My thoughts exactly. The idea itself is nothing more than a content warning. It's like putting NSFW. Like who the hell cares if some people ask for that? Is it gonna kill us if someone asks for one??

True, but when many people (specifically, many people on tumblr) use the term, they are not referring to PTSD. As it was explained to me by someone from tumblr, being "triggered" by something means something makes you feel uncomfortable, it isn't always related to PTSD. And no, I am not even joking. And some of the... stranger "triggers" mentioned in the video do tend to pop up on tumblr (having a trigger for eating/food is very common, some how).

being triggered is not the same as being offended, people seem to get that mixed up
This is correct. Triggers are originally used for people with mental issues that may have a break due to certain things, or people with addiction issues (which still is mental but I'm differentiating for a reason) that see certain things as a trigger for their addictions. anything else is some over-entitled jackass using it as a way to say "don't offend me".
As a person who deals with mental issues, I have a problem with people who don't have those issues (or any others for that matter) appropriating something I deal with on a regular basis for their own purposes.

Ok, I have no idea what the takeaway message was supposed to be, they kind bounced back and forth on it a lot.

Well the Gavin Free trigger warning made me chuckle.
the takeaway was that if you need trigger warnings for everything in your life(as more than a few internet people claim to have), you sorta deserve to be mocked. Also do your damn research if you've got triggers in the first place, some things have a reputation of being full of degenerate asshole things. It's not their responsibility to accommodate every single possible trigger warning, which is why most things do a generic "mature audiences advised" type thing.

Also, as others have probably already said, it's making fun of people who claim to have triggers, but they're either the most ridiculous things imaginable, or so many that it's impossible to take them seriously considering most of the people claiming them aren't actually triggered by them and are simply annoyed but don't know/refuse to learn the difference between them.

I would pay a lot of money to see you explain that to someone who lost a limb in a war, or someone burned in a fire that they should just accept that "Tumblr" has ruined this for them.

I'll pay for your rehabilitation after surgery as well.
I don't see how that logically follows my own statement. I never said nor implied that PTSD was not real, nor that it wasn't a serious thing, only making the factual statement that most people (including virtually everyone who does so on Tumblr) who use the term are using it in a means which deserves our mockery for it. Just in the past few years we've seen collage and university students demand the inclusion of trigger warnings on books because of their content for god sake.

Tumblr is like a endless decanter of synthetic rage fuel. Nothing they ***** about on that site is worth anyone's time and yet people find a way to freak out about it anyway. It's an endless cycle of petty, misplaced anger. The sad part is that it's only gotten as far as it has because the people who hate tumblr have brought so much attention to it.

Brought attention to it? They're on it. A lot of the outrage seems to come simply from other people being on it.

I suppose I meant they aren't "active users", but I have no way of actually knowing that. I imagine if they hate it that much they wouldn't subject themselves to it, but then the Great Internet Culture War of 2015 happened and I don't know what to believe anymore.

Here's the problem: Tumblr is huge. Really huge. It's a large community with a lot of facets and a fair share of overlap, but not necessarily on all points. People like to complain about "Tumblr feminists," but I suspect it's because they're actively looking for them. The site is not overwhelmingly feminist/SJW/PC/whatever, but it gets the rep because people have a fetish for it.

Not that I'm knocking fetishes. Aside from when my girlfriend links me to a Tumblr post, about the only time I actually end up on the site is when doing Google image searches for porn. I mean, I hope you can see what I'm trying to connect here.

Do you remember when that guy did a study on major gaming publications for words like "sexism," "diversity" and feminism? He came back with a .4% total mention rate. Less than half a percent. People are outraged that feminism is taking over gaming, but what they're reacting to is less than half of one percent. They're not really mad that it's taking over. They're mad the conversation exists at all.

While I couldn't guess at the overall ratios on Tumblr, I imagine it's actually a similar thing.

There's predominantly porn on Tumblr if that's all you look for. Similarly, if you're looking for Tumblr feminists to rage at....

CURSE YOU DOPAMINE!
I don't know, it's one of my favourite Iommi/Hughes tracks.

You know, if I ever do a video that I feel needs a trigger or content warning or something, I'm definitely putting "Trigger warning: Trigger warnings" at the front of said warning.

Then I'm going to point and laugh at the people complaining about trigger warnings in the comments. They just trigger so easily.

I only ever use Tumblr for anime GIFs and fanart, personally. My girlfriend follows a few comedy/artist blogs, but that's about it. Suppose it's got something for everyone.

Gotta admit, that was pretty funny. Trigger Warnings probably mean well ...
No, they don't mean well. They're a fabrication purely for the purpose of legitimizing SJWs who claim innocuous posts on the internet give them PTSD. That's right, it's a tool of those who trivialize serious mental problems in order to advance their own agenda.

Replace "Tumblr" with "every website that gets significant traffic" and things pretty much stay the same. Everyone likes to get pissed off and self righteous about something. Not to mention those people tend to drown out the more reasonable people on the websites in question.

I had someone try to start an internet campaign against a book I wrote - demanding that I put a "trigger warning" on it.

My response was (and still is) similar to Yahtzee's - two middle fingers and a rasberry blowing in the wind.

That being said, I don't care if people want to voluntarily do things like this because that's their personal belief system, but I do have problems with people demanding that others adhere to this belief system, because that's just bullying.

But incest good, yeah I think I'm getting the picture.
How did you come to that conclusion. On the topic of trigger warnings I'm fine with them as long as they don't get ridiculous or put up just because someone said.

Also yay O'Malley is back. Now the world will tremble before in fear of a Red Bull oblivion. Before that lets read the comments.
