Reddit going into a blackout

Yeah, it has a ton of content and obviously some of it will be good. Yesterday google linked me to reddit about trying to give permissions to an android app where you gotta connect your phone to a computer and do some adb commands in the command prompt because the app's howto was missing the commands. I wanted to see the whole line of replies from a user's post as one of the 1st replies included a list of the commands needed so I wanted to expand the thread to see responses to see if those worked and/or more commands were needed. Clicking to expand the thread to more replies, it removed the 1st reply with said commands so I had to click back again to see that post. It's the worst interface/structure/design for a message board I've ever seen.

Or they can fix the horseshit design of their message boards when they're a message board site. It's like getting mad at someone not liking Salesforce for entering in work hours when it's the most horseshit site for entering in work hours. It takes me an hour a month to enter in my hours when the last system took less than a minute.
Yeah but you're using salesforce for work. You don't have to use Reddit. Hoping a thing you can just ignore, that people enjoy, dies because YOU don't like it is part of the reason you're a truly silly boy.

Might want to copy and paste that somewhere, you'll probably want to use that response to them in future.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Really Reddit charging for API access could have been spun better for them, especially if the apps that were using it were charging for it. But pretty much everything the CEO has done has made Reddit look like the bad guys, from putting the api access price at what seems like a high amount to saying the protests would be nothing, to whatever hes doing now.

Listened to an NPR interview with him this morning on the way to work. Usual dogshit tier NPR softball interviewing "skills" aside, holy hell is that man one out of touch prick. Yeah, a company whose revenue stream has tripled in three years to a half billion per year, is fiscally insolvent and not being run sustainably.

Just admit you're trying to inflate Reddit's valuation prior to its IPO, so you can cash out and retire.

So many searches lead to Reddit, it's kinda unavoidable. Something will pop up to replace Reddit if it dies, and it'll be a more functional site.

Could drop it in the tik tok thread too.
Funny how you guys are so cognizant of mental health and whatnot but once I say anything about something contributing to it, you're instantly against it because I said it. If you objectively look at TikTok, it's obviously bad for people's mental health. However, TikTok is completely avoidable. A friend said I should get on TikTok and my reply was only if you buy me a separate phone because I ain't putting that shit on any device of mine.

In what circumstance is Reddit the only result of a search? That isn't specifically for Reddit? Because I have maybe been on Reddit around a dozen times in my entire life.

No you're just a baby with a victim complex incapable of understanding nuance who thinks he's the best most smartest boy and always seems to ignore the mental health impact of social media in general.

A lot of Reddit users planning an escape route are looking to Lemmy or KBin, both Reddit-alike things built on the Fediverse ActivityPub protocol. Lemmy is bigger, KBin is newer, but it barely matters because they talk to each other. They're decentralized and federated, so a bunch of instances all with their own users and communities/magazines (lemmy calls them communities, kbin calls them magazines, either way it's basically subreddits), most of them talking to each other freely.

It is to Reddit what Mastodon is to Twitter.

It's extremely likely for Reddit to be one of the main search results when trying to figure out a tech issue. And a Reddit thread is a decent shot of finding the solution you're looking for vs the horrible official Microsoft forum that just has people saying to do like sfc /scannow to fix every damn issue when that has like at best a 5% chance of working, plus you don't actually learn what the actual issue was.

How am I a victim of something I don't use? You're gonna say nuance to me when I'm like one of the few people here that uses nuance when discussing things. How am I ignoring the mental health impact of social media when I literally have 2 threads about the impact of social media and mental health? The reason I never use TikTok isn't because, like you think (without nuance), because right-wing says "TikTok bad", it's because I don't like the format of short videos, I like watching something at least 10 or so minutes long (usually longer) because I'd rather find one really good 10 minute video vs say 20 TikTok videos where only a 1 minute of them were good because that's the equivalent of then wasting 9 minutes of your 10 minutes of free time. Also, you can't get any fucking NUANCE out of a TikTok video.

I suppose it's not impossible its revenues could have tripled and isn't sustainable if it's been extremely heavily kept afloat by investors (as many tech companies are). Or that it took that revenue growth and splurged it on more expansion.

Although I'd agree it's more likely that the CEO and investors now want to cash out, and squeeze every last dollar that they can with a load of measures that enrage staff and users. It's pretty much a story as old as capitalism. This was an issue with Uber: run for years on eye-wateringly vast investment with good deals to sucker drivers in, and then hammering the crap out of them when its investors wanted to sell up.

So, you're saying the blackout made Reddit more valuable.

Congratulations, Reddit mods, you did it!
I don't think people being angry they can't use something makes it more valuable. People being angry that there xbox kept getting a RROD didn't make the console more valuable.

People's measurable desires to use something is evidence of its value when working, and in investment evaluation, evidence of demand is as important as the demand itself. Reddit can put those subreddits back whenever they want to, and kick all the protesting mods to the curb.

Half the blacked out subs have already figured out the blackout was counterproductive and have moved onto other methods of protest.
