Regarding pony hate

Because it's another meme... Like over 9000, lolcats, numa numa... and few others that were big, then forgotten. Only now and then some idiot tries to resurrect it.

Except more obnoxious, because everyone changes their avatars and talks about it 24/7 instead of just using boring references.

The only meme I liked was "Assuming direct control", because it was sort of random, and yet fitting everywhere. Or just because there was a funny thread on Bioware forums with pictures. Like other memes.

People feel the need to make threads about other TV shows too. I saw a football thread the other day. Those fans seem to like to express their joy of their chosen show. Am I going to go dump on their threads? No. Love and tolerance all around!

I think DarkRyter above me pretty much summed it up. People hate it because a lot of people like it. It's that simple. When a lot of people begin to like something, and more importantly express their like for it, people will travel for miles just to express their newfound contempt for the new and popular kid on the block.

I feel like their logic is if so many people can be "cool" among so many others for liking it, they figure they can be just as "cool" if not more so if they place themselves among the others who don't like it. In other words if you can't beat them, join the other team and boo them as loudly as you can.

There are only people tired of seeing pony memes inserted into threads with barely any connection to the show, and of hearing people bring up MLP at every opportunity despite knowing that most of the people in the discussion aren't interested in it.

I'd find it irritating if people started posting lolcats in every thread they could find even the tiniest excuse to. Does that make me a cat hater?

I liked the craze, the memes and pictures were adorable. I haven't watched an episode yet, but I already know some of the characters names and personalities, and I really don't see what's to hate. It's easy enough to avoid if you don't like it anyway.

I think it's mainly about tolerance. Many Escapists have little to none for memes.

Remember everyone, remain calm. Love and tolerate the haters, they're an inevitability. Really, it just seems like they don't like ponies because of a few things.
1: Avatars. They don't realize that we all choose avatars based on what we like. A lot of people like ponies, and want to put them as their avatar. Plus, you gotta admit, a LOT of people here have blatant pony avatars.
2: They don't want to like it. They will refuse to watch a single minute, not of fear of liking it, but fear of looking like a sissy. Before G4 came out, you would probably think the same.
3: Basically any thread made on the Escapist asking what people hate. If it comes up once, everyone will jump on the bandwagon. And those threads come up a LOT as well.
Hopefully this clears a bit up.

You realise by making a thread like this your only vindicating the haters perception that this is some kind of ubiquitous plague sporadically infecting threads across the Internet and being shoved down their throats at every turn right? Dude look, I can't speak for every brony out there but I personally very rarely bring up the show unless the thread specifically pertains to it, but if there really are people like I hear capriciously vociferating their love for the show in totally unrelated threads, then people have a right to complain about that. However, if they are so bitter as to cringe or rage at the mere sight of a pony avatar, then they're just being a **** and you can ignore them or report them if they're being inflammatory about that. Really I think everybody complaining about bronies and those who bring it up out of nowhere both need a healthy dose of Get The Fuck Over It! Nobody cares if you like a show that's predominantly marketed towards kids, this is nothing new by any stretch of the fucking imagnination and nobody cares if you laothe the show to your very core either, it really doesn't matter. So please Internet, can we stop bitching and just get on with our lives?

I suppose you're right though, on the Escapist its not that bad.

Anyhoo, I'm glad the whole thing has significantly died down now. I'm deep in the Steam community system at the moment, hanging between a smallish group of friends I've just been fragmented into, and the MLP Steamgroup chat. Leaning towards the former group, but I imagine that'll change when S2 airs. But it's certainly nice to have a quieter community now.

Because the fandom's huge, so there's bound to be really annoying fans. Those fans will bother other with MLP stuff, creating a hatedom, and in the hatedom there will be a percentage that abhors it as much as the crazy part of the fandom loves it. Basically, most people will like it/dislike/don't care about it, but won't give anyone shit over it, but then you have the vocal minority of fandom being really loud and only fueling the equally loud minority of the hatedom.

I like the show, by the way, this is just a theory.
