Reggie Fils-Aime Says "Meh" to PS4/Xbox One Line-Ups

I'm sorry, I stopped following the console race the moment Sony mentioned there would be new Infamous.

In all seriousness though, isn't that a bit hypocritical of Reggie? Both PS4 and One are starting with a lineup of third party games that can pretty much make up a solid library right off the bat, plus a few big name titles per console either directly at launch or at least several months after it.

Meanwhile, Wii U has Pikmin. And its biggest draw is an upcoming remake of a 10-year-old game. The rest is a bunch of sloppy ports.

I think Reggie might be in denial.

You've got a Zelda that's a re-release of a game we could easily get for cheap now with graphical upgrades that aren't needed, you've got ANOTHER fucking Mario, ANOTHER fucking Donkey Kong (with dynamic fucking cameras guys!).

I think I'll stick with my PS4, Reggie.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the PS3, PS4 and Vita have way better indie support than you.

Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong as console hits... What happened, am I back in 1986? Oh man, I had a dream about the Berlin wall falling. Sigh. Alright, back to work. Need to fulfil the 5-year plan ya know.
That's what I was thinking. The games may be solid, but it's the equivalent of Microsoft screaming "We have a new Halo, isn't our lineup better and original?" We've been playing those titles for over 30 years now. Give me something original and I'll think about it. Even if Microsoft is failing utterly with Ryse, at least they tried? Just if Sony had managed to get some of their indie titles onto launch day, this guy would not be talking. The majority of original games will be from non-major devs this time around, so whoever gets the most indies gets to boast, and it certainly isn't Nintendo.

Oh yeah Reg, because the WiiU launch had soooo many invigorating titles.

SO many.

I'm not sure buying a Wii U is worth it. I've no interest in Pikmin 3, and even though I love Smash Bros. and have never played Windwaker, it's going to take more than two good games for me to purchase it.

Buying the 3DS on launch was a bad idea, sure, but FIRE EMBLEM: AWAKENING DREAM TEAM LUIGI'S MANSION 2 ANIMAL CROSSING POKEMON X AND Y YES PLEASE.

*ahem*

I don't see that happening in the Wii U's future.

Wait, sorry Reggie, you fat Muppet. Your system didn't launch with a Zelda or Donkey King game. Neither even made the 'launch window' and Wii U's launch line up was just as poor as the incoming systems*. PS4 and Xbone are going to have far more games than the Wii U in a short period of time. This sounds desperate, why make pot-shots when he could be mentioning actual exclusives that wouldn't make him sound clueless. This man used to be great at PR :(

Another Donkey Kong? You do know that prior to DKCR, the last Donkey Kong Country game was released on the SNES, right? All we got between then and now was a dodgy 3D platformer and that weird Gamecube Bongo thing. An overabundance of Donkey Kong is not a problem right now. Especially when you look at Sony, and realise they released three Uncharted games in the same period of time Nintendo released one Donkey Kong game.

And Nintendo just released a new IP. It's pretty fuckin' awesome. The problem is, people don't buy new IPs, so they're not exactly giving Nintendo much incentive to move away from Mario and Zelda.
Hey! Don't disrespect the Donkey Kong Jungle Beat! That game was a great Donkey Kong game!

OT: Yeah, I'm not surprised the Reggie is meh to those launches, I'm usually meh to most launches. I think the only launch I was ever excited for was the Gamecube, and only because of Melee.

Well, gee whiz, I wonder what Sony has to say about Nintendo and Microsoft's line-up, or Microsoft about Sony and Nintendo's.

Whadda ya think?
I expect nothing but praise from rival companies. Why do you ask?

I mean, it's not like Reggie is promoting a console on similar grounds or anything, right?

I really want to say that Nintendo got my vote the moment Bayonetta 2 was announced. Bayonetta sequel was all but canned. No one was going to put money down to put a niche game, but Nintendo did. There is no way anyone is going to believe Bayonetta 2 was going to sell consoles, but that fact that Nintendo put down money for the sequel to be made definitely earned my respect by Nintendo.

Most importantly Nintendo seems to be fixing their line up on niche AAA titles. Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, X, Fire Emblem x Shin Megami, and Pikmin. Those are titles that everyone knows will not sell systems but I greatly appreciate that they exist. Far more than Destiny or Titan Fall where they were designed to please a far greater audience.

We've got the same Mario we've had three other times now, and another one that isn't out yet. We've got the same Zelda you played a decade ago, except we cranked the bloom up to 11. We've got a Donkey Kong game that isn't out yet. We've got a game which is apparently selling abysmally in Japan right now [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.826783-The-wonderful-101-bombs-in-Japan]. And Pikmin 3 I guess. (I mean c'mon not even a mention of system-seller Smash Bros.?)

Look. Reggie. You're a cool dude.

But it's your job to say "meh" to the competitor. Don't act like it isn't.
Pretty much my perspective. Yeah, he's right in pointing out that the launch line ups for both the One and the PS4 aren't exactly mindblowing. But, truthfully, neither is the line up that the Wii U has even though it's already been out for a while. Unless you've already chosen the horse you want to back in the early stage of this console generation, I would actually advise against buying any of the new systems, Wii U at it's new lower price included.

Gee, if only I could get a big, bold headline like that: "FootloosePhoenix says 'Meh' to Nintendo Launch Line-up. And Nintendo Games in General." You've got Zelda(!), Mario(!) and Donkey Kong(!), huh? Not exactly breaking new ground here, guys. I know those will still sell like hotcakes, but it's funny how two out of three of those haven't been released yet when he's talking about the games that will be out immediately at the other consoles' launches. Though of course, he's right in a sense; launch line-ups don't tend to be spectacular, but I don't think it's all too bad this generation either. I'm definitely not in a hurry to dive into the next generation, but I'm looking forward to a number of future titles on the PS4.

And the WiiU's been out now what, not quite a year? Nintendo should have a much stronger library at this point than their competitors.

In return, Gamers say meh to the Wii U's line up.

I've yet to see a game that's caught my interest on the Wii U so far and it doesn't look like it's going to change too soon. I know it's personal opinion and all that but there haven't been too many exclusives outside of the usual franchises.

I kind of agree with him, except my feelings of meh extend to the WiiU as well. Nothing all that interesting has been announced for any console really. The only kind of interesting thing for is Titanfall, if only for the movement and giant robots.
