What I think is that he's accidentally stumbled onto OT, without the realisation that there was an OT section, balked at the OT'ness of the threads and made a thread about it

I was brought here by gaming, but certainly found joy in the variety of topics this community was willing to discuss. It's refreshing having a more insightful view into various topics, and I'm glad The Escapist has a place for those as well.
Gaming still seems to be the focus, and as long as that remains the case; does it really matter if there's some Off-Topic discussion going on? I'd much rather keep track of one forum than several.
Again, this is more personal preference.

No. I don't think I came to the Escapist early enough to remember that, I mean I know gaming is discussed here occasionally but I just don't see it as often as one might expect.nukethewhales said:

Everything on here is covered. maybe if there was a major gaming announcement that they missed or didn't thoroughly report on then I would understand. But to my limited knowledge this hasn't happened and is not your beef.

This topic should have been in the off topic board.... I don't see anything wrong with off topic boards on hobbie sites. I mean, I used to go to the ones on gamefaqs that had nothing to do with games... It could be interesting to see the other opinions, hobbies, and interests of fellow gamers.
Err...you see those sections when you come to the forum? You seem to be looking for gaming discussion in the Off-Topic forum. Try looking in the Gaming Forum. Problem solved. Ignore whats irrelevant to you. 80% of my posts are in the Gaming Forum, with the mostly split evenly between Off-Topic and User Reviews
Ok since I like repeating things everyone else already said this is a gaming site but not all the content is about gaming. This is a site for people who play games to discuss anything as long as it is in the right section if you want to talk about random stuff go to the off topic section if you don't go to the gaming discussion section.
Well, in response to the edit, here's the answer; because they can be. Because this is where a lot of folks like to come to who game. And shockingly, these folks do things other than game. Me, I come here, first thing I do is I check the gaming news. Then I check any gaming-related series I watch. I poke around gaming forum topics. And then I poke at non-gaming forum topics. So, for me, this site is still about gaming. It's just not ONLY about gaming. And if you're going to take Wikipedia's word on what this site and its forums are over... well, reality, then methinks we're at an impasse.nukethewhales said:

And for someone claiming to be mature, you should lay off the insults and sarcasm.
Well, if you really want an all-gaming forum to voice your opinions on, go to the Steam forums. Those punks will eat you alive then gnaw on your bones. (Speaking from experience.) Granted they all aren't like that, but you'd be surprised at how vicious those forums can get. As for the OT, The Escapist is what it is portrayed as, "an escape" from the real world. The foundation of this website is probably based around games, but at the end of the day, gamers are people too. They need food, water, shelter, relaxation, and a decent toilet. If these forums were strictly games-based, they'd be a branch of IGN or Gamespot.
BUT THEY AREN'T!
And I for one am glad that the Escapist branches out to all forms of CULTURE. It's how well-rounded relationships with other people start. Having only one interest makes the person seem a bit 2-Dimensional don't you think?

Instead of making a thread, you should have brought up your concern to the mods. Granted they probably would have told you to get over it, but that's just what I think.

aren't you a little "new" to be talking about what the escapist used to be like? As for the OT its the way that the escapist covers all forms of topics is what makes it great...its like the gumbo pot of the internet.
