I saw it yesterday, reminded me of the Swan Lake anime with Sigfried, Odette, & Odile.

I disliked it. The power of friendship lost to some random villain of the minute. BUT WAIT

THE POWER OF LOVE WILL SET US FREE OR SOMETHING.

Season 2 has been rather meh. After the Halloween episode, everything just lost the magics.

Oh well. At least Jay made a Chrysalis spread!

My big gripe with the finale was the way the rest of the Mane Six just abandoned Twilight. None of them even sat down for a minute to hear her out. After episodes like "Friendship is Magic" and "Lesson Zero" you'd think they'd know to take her worries seriously. But instead they suffered from Smallville's Lana Lang Syndrome.

This is the one time in the series where I've found it hard to see how forgiveness could come so easily.

i liked it and thought it was a good ending to the season
loved the music in it especially "this day aria"
also enjoyed that it wasn't the elements that solved everything in the end whilst the whole "power of love" thing is really cheesy at least it's not something they usually use and considering who they where fighting it makes some sense.

Alright I'm walking into this review completely ignorant of anything pony. That said, this review did do its job in accurately describing, not only the plot of the episode, while, but also the idealism of the show in general and the differences that come up in the show overall. This allows me, as a third party observer to make my own comments on the content, rather than simply its presentation, which was my initial plan in this case.

My Little Pony is personally something that I never found interest in, this not meaning that I attack those who enjoy the show its simply just something I won't go out of my way to watch, however I do enjoy the fact that such mature commentary can go on, on something that is ultimately a children's show first above all else. To see that is impressive in its own right, and thus in my books, puts it near Avatar The Last Airbender, another show that felt mature beyond its initial target audience.

One can find worry about putting spectacle over substance though, it can be something to worry about, especially in something as major as a season finale, on the other hand, if the spectacle is only the primary focus in say, one or two episodes, one can reason that it might be the exception to the norm. Regardless, one could and should be wary that a show may begin to lean in that direction overall, thus spoiling what, for some, may be the primary allure of the show to begin with.

The review was crisp in its own theories and interpretations while also providing witty commentary and fun jokes, though maybe a little too reliant on TF2 jokes. This could be argued that the TF2 jokes were added because of some context in the show I missed and if that is the case, feel free to kick me in the junk if we should ever meet.

That said, while you clearly presented the plot of the episode, something needed in order to review the product, I also feel you went too far, explaining the entire episode away, eliminating any surprise that a new viewer would find in the plot of the show. As you mentioned in your own piece on the Showcase, the idea of a review is not to tell the person what happened, but instead provide a quick peek that may draw them into the show. This summary you presented could have ended with the princess appearing to be an impostor for example.

That really comes down to the only serious criticism I have for the work though, I enjoy the formatting style, if not a little too Pony-y[?] for me, the paragraphing is solid, the thesis presented and kept on point for the majority of the read and last but not least, the read remained engaging despite my disinterest in the subject.

Keep up the good work.

1. There will be season 3 right, RIGHT???
2. Canterlot guards are totally incapable of defending Canterlot. Few minutes and they are already overwhelmed? I hope in the next season Shining Armor will personally train guards to prevent such miserable defeat again.

Sometimes you need episodes that are just pure spectacle. I don't feel the series is going in that direction, I think they just wanted to make a kick-ass save-the-day episode.

Really there's more to this episode than meets the eye and to say it was just a rushed spectacle is an insult.

True, most themes from early on are simply abandoned halfway through the episode. Instead of addressing what looked like an interesting conflict between Twilight and her childhood friend we get "Nope, evil bug monsters. Let's have a fight scene!"

So it makes sense to defeat a race that feeds on love by giving them an overdose? That's like saying the most effective way to beat humans is throwing bread at them, though I suppose Harry Potter did a similar thing with the whole Expecto Patronum shebang.

My real problem with this approach is that they only use it once everything else has failed. First Celestia steps in, and naturally that goes horrible wrong. Then we get to watch our clique fight their way to the Elements of Harmony and nope, I suppose there's too many of them Changelings. Running out of time now, so I guess we'll just have the two new guys magically resolve everything at the very last second.
id just like to clearify i meant themewise logically the way to defeat them would be with hate but that would just be a wierd episode. if one wants to try and defend it you could say love earned with trickery is nothing like pure love or something.
also i forgot to say that i agree with that it was bad they just stopped with the possible changed childhood friend story although they might be reluctant to use it because it's a bit similar to the Griffin story.

Awesome review man. Even though I've watched the episode 7 or 8 times, I still really enjoy reading what happens in episodes.

I loved almost everything about this episode, except chrysalis (spelled wrong), but I didn't dislike her, she just creeped me out. But this day Aria and Cadance I general were absolutely awesome. Can't wait for season 3!

I loved this episode, personally. I think it's by far the best of this season, which is good because my interest had been waning a little recently. It's great to watch something expecting a pony wedding, and instead end up with a changeling infiltration of pony high-command, followed by sabotage and a full-scale invasion of the pony capitol. It reminds me what I loved about the show in the first place.

The detailed and realistic portrayal of pony warfare I assume :p
Of course! The only thing lacking with this episode was the pastry-based ranged weaponry, but I suppose there wasn't really much opportunity for baking this time around.

I liked it, personally. What seemed like a typical season finale wedding turned into an action-packed battle. And I wasn't sure I'd like Cadence, but from what I've seen, I think I'll give her a chance...
