So no one's going to mention this is just a rumor from Kotaku? With a bunch of "unnamed sources" that we just joked about today on this very website?

If this is true then I'm sad if it isn't true then good but I don't know why so many people don't get it's still a rumor.

EDIT: Hey guys you know what this needs? PETITION!

If it's true it'll be such a shame, I've been looking forward to this game.

Wait a second.....Wasn't the theme "Somnus" included as DLC for their newest game FF theatrhythm? Wouldn't it be weird to include a song from a dead/dying game? besides 6 years is alot to just flush down the drain.

Besides I wouldn't take Kotaku's word on anything.

Wow sucks to be a fan suppose.

This reminded me of another incident. One involving Capcom. Except it was much more pain in such a small timespan.

Good old days

So what the fuck have they been doing all this time?
Making Versus XIII. They simply won't be working on it in the future.

So they've been working on it for five years and NOW they're throwing in the towel? It's gotta be practically done by this point.

S-E already rebranded Agito XIII as Type-0. My guess is that most of the Versus assets will be similarly redeveloped if there's any truth to the rumor about the title's cancellation.
Yeah, it got re-branded as Type-0, but it never got a release outside of Japan. Shame, because that one looked pretty interesting too.

OT: If this turns out to be a true rumor, then I'm extremely disappointed in Square Enix. It looked like the first truly unique and interesting thing they've done since The World Ends With You, which is four-five years old now - Otherwise known as an eternity in video-game time.

But then, I wouldn't be surprised by this. It does seem like Square Enix has just been afraid of success lately.

You would think, maybe they just hit a wall and aren't satisfied with the result so instead of making another year or two worth of changes, they are just moving on.

Projects can get cancelled at any time for a number of reasons. Not just games, but in pretty much any industry.

That disappointed me, but I'm not surprised that Square was reluctant to pay for the localization of an extremely difficult 2-UMD game for the PSP. I think that they are far more likely to consider a North American release for PS3/360 assets.

I'm finding it very difficult to get upset by this rumor. S-E wants to make announcements in a few weeks. Fine, I'll see what they say then.

Well, I'm not going to jump onto the hatred bandwagon until it's either confirmed or denied, but the rumor alone is enough to make me skeptical because Square Enix has made a lot of poor business decisions over the last few years, and something like this wouldn't surprise me in the least.

If they gut what Versus XIII was shaping out to be to make it into a more "safe" Final Fantasy XV, I'm probably going to be a little annoyed as well because as it stands right now, Versus looks extremely interesting to me and if they completely overhauled it to make it fit into the main series (as in, complete overhaul of the combat system so that it isn't the real-time action-RPG combat they've shown us so far), that would go a long way toward demolishing my hope for the title. If all they do is decide to slap a different name on it... then I'll be fine with it.

Don't Care, both FFXIII games that have been released so far have been poor, as soon as they start to continue the series with XV I will be happy, but that will most likely be crap as well.

Annnnnnd that's it, done, no more Squenix for me, you can dedicate resources to making rhythm games and a tech demo but 6 years and you just can your more interesting projects? Done, bye Square, good luck selling the FFVII PC relaunch when all your fans are pissed at you.
Pft, who do you think you're kidding?

People are going to buy the living shit out of that game because they remain convinced it was the "last good Final Fantasy" (never mind that it, too, shares a lot of the same traits that are prevalent among FF games today).
i dont know why FFVII is considered such an amazing game. i think the nostalgia glasses must be really heavy and hard to take off, i guess. when i played it when it came out, i thought it was kind of... average. nothing special, so when people tell me its "TEH BEST FF EVAR" or "TEH BEST GAEM EVAR", i just kind of take a moment, and tell them about the wonderful, and deceitful effects of nostalgia.

Sonnovabitch! Welp! That's it, that was the only and last Square-Enix game I was looking forward to. I'm kinda sad but am more indifferent at this point. I've been waiting for this game for 5 years but the waiting left me kinda jaded with Square-Enix and now I am completely disillusioned. Kingdom Hearts 3 is never going to come out either. Life goes on.

This is what happens when you dedicate your resources to tech demos and bad sequels instead of SHIT THAT YOUR FANS WHO PAY YOU MONEY ACTUALLY WANT.

Why do people honestly think we are taking this personally? It's a video game forum. We talk about video games here then we go on our day. Most of our feelings on this are it's disappointing so we say it here then we go on with our day.

I wish I could say that I was disappointed but the truth is I gave up on the continuation of the series a long time ago.

Oh come on! Versus was the only one that actually looked interesting, granted it was unwise for me to get my hopes up given Square Enix havent released a good FF since X, but at least the trailers were compelling. Screw FF13-3 (y'know the one know one fucking likes), get to work on Versus and KH3 for christ sakes.

Eh, FF 8+9 are my favorites, but FF7 is still as good as I remember it being, having played it recently, granted it wasn't as hard as I remember it being, but none of them were, it's just now I know what I'm doing properly in regards of character building and can pretty much autopilot through them. But yeah, still enjoyable, still well written (translation errors non withstanding), it was still a massive game changer when it came out regardless of peoples thoughts of it now.

I really REALLY hope this isn't true. This is the only Final Fantasy that I'm pumped up about. This looked like the game that could restore Final Fantasy's name as a series of quality.

Also, exactly how much financial sense would this make for SE? They've worked on it for god knows how many years, had CGI cutscenes and trailers produced for it, and they're now just going to throw in the towel?

If this turns out to be true, I hope they at least reforge the game into FFXV or something along those lines.
