Put simply: YAY.

We already had an epic about Khan. We don't need another. Nero was never seen in any movie/series until the JJ Abrahms one. Give us a new villain! Or at least, an old villain who hasn't been seen much... Such as... Mudd?

Trelane could be interesting. I always thought it would be fun to have a Star Trek movie about Q or someone with Q-like powers. Shame it never got made.

However, since the article states that the film won't feature a 'main antagonist' structure (to which I can only say 'yay', since we kinda need more memorable plot-lines other than REVEEEENGE), I'd say it's more likely to be an extended cameo by Harry Mudd rather than anything else. But we'll see.

I can see them using Harry Mudd, but instead of as a traditional villain it'll be him selling faulty goods to the new vulcan homeworld (please for the love of Gene, don't call it New Vulcan!). Kirk is ordered to chase the guy down and this results in a beginners guide to star trek movie (These are klingons they are violent, Grrrr! These are romulans they're like vulcans with emotions but we arent meant to know that yet. These are borg we put them in 'cos ST:Enterprise screwed up the continuity...)

They need tribbles. If this is going to be a film series, then there must be tribbles at some point. In fact, they should remake "The Trouble with Troubles" and definitely not leave out Deep Space Nine's involvement.

assuming that the 'new' versions will be in any way similar to the originals, i really can't see them using mudd, he's too much comic relief.

the horta seems unlikely too, unless they vastly change it's apperance and abilities it's basically going to be a big rock as a villan...?

which leaves gary mitchell and the talosians, wouldn't like to call that. my instincts would say talosians, just because mitchell wasn't even mentioned in the first film (though i suppose neither were the talosians...)

If Shatner isn't involved it's not gonna be good...

Sorry TNG fans, but you'll never live up to ToS.
I remember the actor who played Kirk in the reboot movie specifically said he didn't want to act like Shatner whatsoever (it helps that the change in the time line completely changed who he was) and I'm glad of that. Picard had an air of tact and diplomacy over some enemies that couldn't be outright shot with phasers, which is something that I feel Kirk lacked.
Oh and Shatner's acting which I found it a little difficult to take seriously sorry to say.

$100 on Talosians.
I'll have a steak in that pot too! Would be nice to see some obscure aliens like this, perhaps a Gorn even and maybe even the Tholians referenced

It'll be Harry Mudd, and it'll be played by Greg Grundberg of all people.

Grundberg and Abrahms are best of buddies, and Grundberg is a closet trekkie. He's apparently pestered Abrahms lots of times since Abrahms signed on to do star trek about the Mudd character, (cant tell if its because Grundberg actually loves Star Trek or because it's the only character he thought he could play...being...ahem... rounder than the other characters) and because JJ see's Grundberg knows more about trek than he does, he went with it, thinking thats what other trekkies would want.

But you didn't hear that from me...
