I've heard good things about Kikaider the animation. It mostly deals with self discovery, what it means to be human and how to deal with the more destructive impulses of mankind.
Ew, God no. Chaika has fanservice up the butt. All the girls are invariably dressed half naked with open cleavage or miniskirts. The characters have very little depth and little chemistry interacting with one another.inu-kun said:Chaika is a goof recent show, doesn't have fanservice and the plot and characters are awesome.
Why would you want anything to be SAO? That show was overloaded with fetishes and fanservice. The characters are cardboard cutouts, the main protagonist is a trasparent Mary Sue with little in the way of character or personal vices, a horribly shallow and cringe inducing romance subplot, and the action boils down to characters cutting up bad guys with glowing swords. Worst of all is that it takes itself too seriously, and the only comedy it has takes form in typical overused anime cliches.shadylight said:NOOOOoooooo. "I don't have many friends" is exactly what I am trying to avoid. Meat alone is responsible for 70 percent of the ecchi and sex jokes. Kokoro Connect is mentioned because it has/is psychological.FPLOON said:Well, since I see Kokoro Connect on that list, may I suggest the first season of Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends? Talk about your "harem subversion no jutsu"... Just only go into the second season (Haganai NEXT) if you want the subversion to be a bit more stronger... (And I guess I can't suggest the original Tenchi Muyo OVA, given how at least two of the female characters give off that "this is a harem series" vibe basically right out of the gate...)
With that said, I'll just echo other things that have been said already [and then some?] like anything from Shinichiro Watanabe (including Space Dandy, I guess?), Eden of the East, Afro Samurai, Shin-Chan, anything Ghost in the Shell-related (except Rise), Baccano!, RahXephon, Monster, anything .hack-related (especially Signs), and, especially, anything from Satoshi Kon...
I've watched Eden of the East, it isn't mentioned because I didn't enjoy it as much as other titles. Can't get into Afro Samurai for whatever reason, Shin Chan might be something I watch if I need to laugh though I don't usually want to laugh. Dropped Baccano because I was getting bored with it. Finished MOnster, will proceed to watch RahXephon. I really want to get into .hack, but for some reason I keep wanting it to be SAO.
Hey, man, if he likes it then let it be. No need to crap all over it in his face.lucky_sharm said:Why would you want anything to be SAO? That show was overloaded with fetishes and fanservice. *sigh* I'm just baffled at how popular it is. Zankyou no Terror (the newest anime of the season) has only a few views shy of a million, whereas the newest season of Sword Art Online has over 4 million views and perfect ratings.[Kira Must Die said:]Hey, man, if he likes it then let it be. Yeah, I can understand that. I just choose to focus on what I enjoy rather than what others enjoy. I don't like telling people they're wrong for enjoying something that, when you think about it, is pretty harmless. It makes me feel like a dick, and it wastes my time.lucky_sharm said:*sigh* I'm just baffled at how popular it is. Initially my post was just going to point out that SAO had fanservice but the more I remember from that show start to finish the more it bothered me.
