This mode is so much damn fun... though I can't seem to get an A. It's so exhilarating running through the mines with 16 zombies and a reaper chasing you!
Anyone who didn't find the campaign mode of Resi 5 challenging enough will get thier rocks off in mercenaries.
Does anyone know how to get an A in the mode or have any general tips?
Okay here are my tips, first off, use Sheva, secondly it's best to go for an A in Public Assembly first.
Now a problem I had at first was that I'd either sit in one place and go for kills, or I'd run around looking for time, what you need to do is both.
You probably won't be able to get an A before you learn the locations of all the time things for public assembly, so just go ahead and play it to learn them and practice.
It's important to remember that the more you move around the more Majini will spawn, which means the more points you'll get, generally my first impulse is to get to at least some relatively safe area like the rooftop with the bus near it and move around only as needed, but that will result in few points. however you don't want to just run around randomly.
Move around slowly, killing Majini is your top priority every time you kill all of the Majini you can see who are close to you, keep moving to the next time bonus until you bump into a couple more, kill them and keep moving.
If you know some are close behind, get a few feet between you and them, turn around and clean house, if there are too many, run past them and get a bit of distance. I make it sound rather slow but it will be very fast paced, moving often and not standing still very long at a time.
Remember, melee attacks do a lot of damage and if they get a kill, you get +5 seconds to make up for the time lost during the animation, if you are running and a Majini is down near you, go ahead and impale him.
It's important to not let your combo dictate what you do, ideally the only time you aren't gunning down Majini is when you SHOULDN'T be gunning down Majini, either because you're low on time and need to get to the next time bonus ASAP, or because you're being overwhelmed. So if your combo is about to end, it's because you're in a situation where you have more important things to worry about.
Keep an eye out for the executioner, when you see him you don't have to take him down immediately, but DON'T lose track of where he is, you don't have to be able to see him, just know where he is and where he will be coming from. (this is true for all bosses) You should try to kill him at your first opportunity, use Sheva's rifle. (it's easy to panic and only take a couple shots at a time, but you'd be surprised at how easily bosses go down when you empty a magazine into them.)
Generally the Executioner should come at you when you have about half of the time bonuses down, once he's dead you should ideally have 20,000-30,000 points. At this point you should get either all of the remaining time bonuses or enough to get a comfortable amount of time left, and then head to a high traffic area, like the area around the bus.
From there on out it should be smooth sailing, if you start to run low on time and you don't think you'll be able to get to 40,000 before it's over, go get any time bonuses remaining.
