Why does everyone complain about the controls? I didn't have a problem with them. Maybe you need to go back and play NES so that you mind won't explode when you have to hit more than one button at a time.shatnershaman said:I passed on buying and renting on this after it was revealed that the controls are still the same archaic bullshit that was in the previous titles, so I played co-op at my friends house. Unfortunately I was right and the controls ruined the experience. Maybe because they know it will sell anyway but why does Capcom believe that they can do the same control scheme that was bad enough on the Gamecube in 2009 on the PS3/360.
It isn't the aiming button plus shoot button that bothers me its the not being able to add the extra element of movement to it, though I don't know how much that would help since the characters move slower than parliament. Just because something was acceptable in 1995 doesn't mean its alright in 2009, Capcom should have moved forward like its competitors have. The Black Adder said:Why does everyone complain about the controls? Yeah I'd like to be able to move while I was aiming too. But you can't let such minuscule things ruin a good game.shatnershaman said:It isn't the aiming button plus shoot button that bothers me its the not being able to add the extra element of movement to it, though I don't know how much that would help since the characters move slower than parliament. EDIT: Typo (1985 instead of 1995).

The shooting and cover sections aren't perfect, yes. However, first of all I will happily point out (with infernal smugness, I must imagine) that Gears of War isn't the best choice for a comparaison. Anyone ever play Winback on the N64? It was pretty much that. Hell, with moving and shooting eliminated the gameplay reminded me a heck of a lot of that title. Plus I didn't experience a speed problem or a major aim problem. Of course this is really a technical thing and we could go back and forth all day with no real way to settle it. Just saying it so it won't go unchecked.
Okay, what was wrong with the inventory? Your four most used items can be hot-keyed, so if you plan ahead between each encounter based on your ammo and healing item supply it really shouldn't be an issue. Rapidly switching from shotgun to pistol to SMG to Healing Spray served me fine.
Yeah Sheva's AI isn't perfect, she does have some stupid moments, but she's still an improvement over Ashley from RE4 and, since you mentioned it earlier, Dom from Gears of War 2.
This will draw some ire, but I'm going to comment on the story too. Obviously the main plot is pretty much old hash, a weird combination of stuff from the first games with stuff from 4 and a few new elements. However, what I liked was how well Chris is now characterized. Sheva was okay, I suppose, but I thought they did an excellent job with Chris. Of course, I thought they did great with Leon while failing with Ashley in RE4 so its a bit of an improvement.
Finally I have to remark that I vastly prefer Chris's melee attacks compared to Leon's. Straight-punching a zombie-like creature and causing its head to explode is glorious no matter how many times you do it.
So yeah, I would contend that it is, in fact, more fun than RE4 since it encourages Co-op and still pulls of a stong RE game. It even feels a bit more like a horror game at points before the last third of the game but really, does that surprise you?

The solution to the first problem is to do it when you can stop for a second. Inconvinient, yes, but they went for realism like they did with Alone in the Dark, but here it fits as you have limited items and if you remember where they are they're easy to grab.I agree with you that Sheva is a vast improvement over Dom, I have posted here a few times expressing my disgust at him on insane mode and how you get cheap game overs repeatedly no matter how well you're playing because of his favorite activity which is to run right into the line of fire (particularly mortar fire...)
The reasons the menu drove me mad was not to do with the hotkeys. It was a few things:
First, when you hit Y you are usually naturally moving the left thumbstick as you access the menu in realtime. This causes the cursor to fly all over the place and end up on items you don't want to use and have to navigate back to the item you want.
The swapping of weapons was unforgivably clumsy. They should have included an option to pause the game in the single player campaign, especially since Sheva refuses to use anything other than her handgun and you usually end up using her as a pack mule...
The one thing I LOVED about the menu was this: 'GIMME AN EGG!!'
Chris can punch zombies heads to make them explode? How? I certainly loved stamping on thier heads and exploding them but never saw the animation you mentioned!
Your aim should not be messed when you go back to cover and then to shoot, the camera doesn't move it around or anything.miracleofsound said:The clunky, boring Gears of War imitating cover and shoot sections dominate the final third of the game and they just plain out suck. There is no other way to put it. What were they thinking putting these in? The movement and mechanic required to enter and exit cover is painfully slow and clumsy, the aiming is annoying as you have minimal control over where you aim before you pop out. This is due the camera snapping back to onto you repeatedly when in cover.
I'm not sure about other types of controls, but if you're playing with type A just put any item you might be using often in a cross form, that is, one item up, one down, one on the left and another on the right. While in the game, press the pad in the order of which you put each item and you will access it right on. Try to leave Sheva with enough ammo and one healing item. Also, changing her from attack to cover do make a difference.I found Sheva's AI to be quite good generally, especially when loaded up with health items, she saved my ass repeatedly and can do it quickly and painlessly without the need to navigate the horribly fiddly menu like the player does. By the way the item menu is atrocious and had me screaming all kinds of abuse at the tv...
Regarding the camera... the problem is that when you are in cover the camera snaps back onto chris... take gears for example, you can aim the reticule and then pop out, in Resi 5 you have to pop out, THEN aim and fire. It's awkward because the aiming is so slow and doesn't feel rewarding or fun.ElTigreNegro said:[
