I agree that if you pay for a disc you own EVERYTHING on that disc especially a console game.By the reasoning of the plants that Capcom has put on this topic to defend their decision if I went out to eat and ordered a meal then I should just grab my ankles and squeal with glee when they inform me of the 5 dollar rental fee for a plate, glass and utensils.

Why is the thing on the disk when I can't use it without buying a fucking key online?
Way to read the whole post.

1.8mb is decent size for code, so it makes sense if it just recycles the content on the disk to put together a versus mode.

1.86MB? That's either the most efficient bit of coding I've seen in a long time, or they're lying through their teeth. You could almost fit that on a floppy disk. (Not that you could find a floppy disk to put it on nowadays...)

It wouldn't surprise me if most of that was a hi-res jpeg for the on-screen multiplayer menu entries. "We weren't sure if we were going to go Times New Roman or Arial Bold for the scoreboard font, so we held it back and released it as DLC."

Yeah it uses "assets from the disc" -- like all the code for running a multiplayer match that was already there, waiting to be activated. Because there's no way you're telling me that an entire multiplayer matchmaking system (even without all the models and textures and environments, assuming all of that was pulled from the DVD) fits in under two megs.

This makes me angry, and I'm not even interested in the game...

1.8 MB which doesn't fit on the disk, on a disk which has 9.4 GB of space (over 50 GB in the PS3's case).

Nobody said it didn't fit on the disc.

This is fair enough. The VS mode has no new graphic content. 1.8 MB of straight code is actually a lot. They just changed the rules of engagement for the Mercenaries mode to make it into two different VS modes. They are actually pretty fun, and worth the $5. Most Arcade games are $10 and not nearly as fun as RE5 VS.

And this is coming from a guy who HATES micro transactions. I never bought a ringtone or wallpaper for a phone, and I will slit my own throat before I pay Capcom for alternate costumes in SFIV.

If all of these sheep that are allowing Capcom to **** them out of $5 because of Capcom's official word... seriously, learn to understand computer coding and specifically how big a certain amount of coding should be. There is no way in ****ing hell 1.86MB was the multiplayer application...

Understand that the ONLY biggest parts of a game's coding is always the .exe program (Console games do use these) and both Audio/Text files. Furthermore, keep in mind that Audio/Text can be compressed so even those can be compressed from MB to KB. So what does all of this "useless" information mean? The size of the file was YOU THE CONSUMER basically buying an .exe file for you to play the multiplayer mode.

Disagree? Go ahead, allow Capcom to rip you off! I could care less, just don't go around spouting out Capcom's "official word" as fact.

If it's actually entirely on the disk, it's only a matter of time until someone somehow hacks it and discovers what are the actual contents of the file. If that happens, Capcom will feel the wrath of the, uh, grapes. If it doesn't, they're actually saying the truth, hooray. Until then, discussing it is pointless, which is why we, on the internet, should continue doing it.

400 points might not seem like alot but it is to me. I personally feel that they should have given the key or whatever you need to download for free buying the game alone is dear enough.
I agree

If I'm going to spend 5 bucks on something, then it better be fun

But a multiplayer versus mode?

RE5 does not control well as a straight up action game. Anyone who has played the Mercs mode to attest to this.

So, not only are we getting something that we already payed for when we bought the disc, what we're supposed to pay sounds awful on paper.

I can't imagine a multiplayer mode on Resi being too fun, at least not if it's versus, I mean you can't move and shoot, so you'd just end up kicking each other in the shins and it'd just come down to who had the biggest boots or most health.

1.86MB of pure binary code (especially if it's compressed) sounds quite plausible. Especially if it's just a piece of networking code (which is using the built-in APIs extensively) and update the game's state according to the server's instructions.

The confusion probably arises from the fact that many Windows developers have gotten used to including all necessary third-party libraries with their software, as well as embedding graphics and sound within the executable file itself. All of that is already on the game disc.

Even if this is true, the Soul Calibur 4 Darth Vader/Yoda DLC was already on the disc too, and I didn't have any problems downloading Darth Vader. And don't say I wasted $5. Its Darth friggin Vader, he's really fun to play, and he's the most balanced (or fair) Star Wars character anyways.

If we accept this kind of crap, where will it end? Eventually we will be paying $60 for a "game" that functions like a console itself - useless until you pay extra for all the addons that collectively contain the entire fucking game.

A line has to be drawn somewhere. The best place for that line is the release date. If they create content after release which is over and above the original game, fine. But when they create content before release and then charge us for the last 5% that was made after release, that's BULLSHIT!

"It is not a key," Svensson said. "We have said in the past, it uses assets from the disc (like levels, models, audio, etc.) but the code is new and does not exist on the disc."

Why? Literally, the only functional difference between other DLC and unlocking something on the disc is that you have more free hard drive space.
A) If I pay for a disc, I expect to own everything on it. Imagine if you bought a car, then the dealership tried to sell you the repair kit you weren't aware was in the boot. That's what this is like.

B) Capcom have shown that, despite selling over 4 million copies of the game, they're still hungry for every last penny they can force out of their customers. Some companies would be happy enough with the money they made just from sales like that. Indeed, some companies understand that their customers aren't fucking made of money.
A) That doesn't change the fact that they told you that you would get product X, and you got EXACTLY product X. They did not stiff you on content, you got precisely the content they told you they would give you. Do you think that all DLC is a money makeing scam? Well then it's a good thing that you don't have to buy it. I understand that its quite the irony, and that may grate on your nerves, but basically, what your complaining about is that Capcom planned the DLC ahead of time. Your complaining that the DLC doesn't waste space on your hard drive.

You can't compare a digital product like a video game to a car. A better comparison would be a person who pays his internet bill every month, but can't legally download every movie, song, and video game in existence. After all, its right there on the internet, and he bought internet access, all buying it would do is unlock it. Capcom made a product, and told you that you pay x, you get y. Paying x gets y. End of story.

B) A major company wants money? Even when they have a lot of money already? Yeah, that describes Capcom, and every other company in the world. I could use that same argument to condemn every single franchise ever made.
