What do you think was the best (in terms of quality or personal preference)?

My vote personally goes for Batman The Animated Series. To this day I owe my entire sense of what's "cool" to that show. More then any other source, it's the neo-noir of that series that filters my perception of awesomeness.
Brilliantly put together technically, rich stories, and for most of its run captured the lone knight aspect very well. It was the non-comedy Calvin and Hobbes.

A further result is my burning, passionate hatred of Robin in any medium.

And now...
Gentlemen, start your nostalgia!

Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain, Freakazoid, and Gargoyles. There are probably others, but I can't remember them at the moment.

The Stytlization in the series also made it great, the Depression-50's era building and cars while black and red are delicatly implemented harshly (Oxymoron?)

I'd also go with Captain Planet because I was living in a Red State When I watched it growing up.

Transformers G1 is my favorite. It is classic and still food to watch. No other version of Transformers has come close the goodness that the original series got to. The newest version of Transformer:Animated is an abortion that needs to just die a short and painful death.

Oh and I am with you, FUCK Robin. He needs to die. Oh wait, he all ready did. And it was awesome watching Joker bash his frigging little brains in with that crow bar. SWEET!!! At least that was the second Robin I think. The first one grew some nuts and became Nightwing, the non-blind DC version of Dare Devil. Dare Devil would kick his ass though.

Rottenbutter also just mentioned Gargoyles. I loved that cartoon. I need to download it all tonight!! My daughter will love it too.

Usually when I think of "retro" cartoons, I tend to think of Tex Avery and Loony Toons. Not stuff from the early nineties.

I can't remember the name of the show but the main character was "Danger Mouse". Whatever this show was, it was my favorite. If anyone can tell me the name of the show that would be great.

Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, and the first few seasons of the TMNT cartoon (they had a MATRIX reference in a children's cartoon show. Awesome!)

Like the other guy said, there are others I'm forgetting.

Roger Ramjet was the best cartoon ever.

Scene:
Roger: "And as soon as i take this proton pill I will gain the power of 30 atom bombs, for thirty seconds."
Martian: "That's discouraging."
*Martians get the ever loving poop beat out of them.

Scene, wherein Roger must report to Col. Stifling Heat.
Col.: "Stifling Heat here."
Roger: "Well then maybe you should open up a window."
Col. "I really wish you wouldn't do that."

Seriously, this show had the best humor ever.
Runner up is Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Added to my list of downloads.

Yes. Thank you. I actually just looked it up then. Good times. I actually had a little toy of that guy.

Another show I really liked was Captain Scarlet. It wasn't a cartoon and was aired long before my time but I really like it. It was kinda like if Thunderbirds meet The Terminator.

*bangs head on key board*

My must my memory equal that of a fish? Add these to my list.

And to answer your question: American cartoons got stupider and most new animes that get dubbed and shown on american TV are basically just commercials.

Voltron, I guess I was an anime fan even as a kid, although I never wouldv'e admitted it back then. Nowadays I watch Beast King Golion, the original UNCUT anime they cut up to make Voltron.

I REALLY hate Robin. "Death in The Family" was one sweet sweet book.

I will have to check that out. Have you heard they are making a live action Voltron movie? man, that is going to be BAD.

True. Even most of what Adult Swim is showing is crap. Bleach is good and Code Geass is pretty alright, but most of it now is just junk.
Why have you betrayed us, Adult Swim?!

Oh, and I almost forgot. Yu Yu Hakusho. God, I loved that show!

*sigh* Another reminder.

And It's not Adult Swim that really betrayed us, it's Toonami. Toonami used to be where I got my anime fix. Now, it's all just Naruto (which I used to like, but now hate).

Also, I just remembered Gundam Wing, I loved that show to.
