Post-modernism. Batman TAS, Freakazoid, hell even Pinky and The Brain build a world you could believe in, and had substance in and of themselves. So although you didn't know The Lob was singing a version of Hello Dolly, you liked the music and found it funny in itself.-Zen- post=18.75033.854598 said:What ever happened to good cartoons?
Unfortunately, it was dead long before it was cancelled. It died when Totally Spies and Code Lyoko took their places in its line-up, and that I can not forgive.axia777 post=18.75033.854661 said:Toonami is dead now guys. It is just gone. Canceled. As in FOREVER. Weep for Toonami. Good by cool robot host dude.
Yes, Loony Toons all the way.Emmitt_Nervend post=18.75033.854567 said:Usually when I think of "retro" cartoons, I tend to think of Tex Avery and Loony Toons. Not stuff from the early nineties.
I guess it was undead at that point. A poor poor Zombie trudging forward not knowing it was all really over.-Zen- post=18.75033.854943 said:Unfortunately, it was dead long before it was cancelled. I have to agree. You want retro? Go watch Clutch Cargo. I understand that retro is relative, but the Warner Brothers cartoons stand astride the world of animation like a party of Celestials [http://www.marvel.com/universe/Celestials]. But the scope of the thread seems to be post-1980. From this crop, my favorite is definitely Animaniacs, which (to my considerable surprise) recaptured much of the spirit of the Bugs Bunny era. Also, they made the occasional Marx Brothers reference. Aweseome.Emmitt_Nervend post=18.75033.854567 said:Usually when I think of "retro" cartoons, I tend to think of Tex Avery and Loony Toons.
